You forgot a hugely influential guitarist who influenced Buddy Guy, Junior Wells, and Albert Collins among many others. HIs biggest hit of course, "The Things That I Used to Do." He travelled widely in the South performing all over with his electric guitar in the early fifties. He died before the blues explosion of sixties that brought blues to the attention of white audiences. He was known as Guitar Slim.

@BackingTrackCenter BTW SRV dose not belong on this list .he was a" good" blues player who said absolutely nothing new but made a career off of Albert Kings "pet " licks and phrasing (from Jimi's as well) Guys like Bloomfield ect were all influenced by Albert but didn't play those licks over and to death like SRV did.
@BackingTrackCenter
@BackingTrackCenter 14 күн бұрын
SRV is definitely a polarizing figure. While some feel he didn't bring anything new, others see him as a revitalizing force for the blues in the '80s. It's all about perspective. We respect your opinion. Thank you for commenting!

@jamesreeves6783 13 күн бұрын
Hopefully this comment won't be excessively long. First, as has already been mentioned by someone, "greatest" is totally subjective. Variations in opinion are in fact a good thing and to be encouraged. I like everyone on this list, but it isn't my list of the top 30. I personally wouldn't try to compile a list of "the 30 greatest" because my opinions are continuing to evolve and as soon as I finish the list, my opinion will have changed enough to need to redo the list. I also know that "great" does not necessarily equate to "commercially successful". I have been around enough to know that it is very likely that the "greatest" is playing on some street corner somewhere and I have never heard of him or her. In fact, I submit that if I travelled around a bit, I could compile a list of 30 guitarists just as good as those on this list that have never sold a song for money. With that said, the value of lists like this is that they have the capability of opening eyes to some great music that you might not know existed. For instance, Magic Sam has some fame, but not of a magnitude to match his talent. It is quite possible that someone who loves the blues hasn't heard of him. If this list inspires you to listen to some of his music you won't be sorry. With that said, in no particular order, let me provide a list of guitarists not named in the video for you to take a listen to if you want to hear some good blues guitar and expand your appreciation of the genre: Duke Robillard, Kirk Fletcher, Josh Smith, Mike Bloomfield, J Geils (see if you can find some of his stuff not with the J Geils band, which was more pop oriented), Frank Marino (once again look for some of his stuff outside of Mahogany Rush), Lonesome Dave Preverett (I like Foghat but he has some killer blues songs out there outside of Foghat), Ronnie Earl and etc. If you see a name that you aren't familiar with, give him a listen. If you see a name that you know, but only know his work with a rock or pop band, then seen if you can find some of his bluesier stuff. Add some names that you know that the rest of us might not be familiar with so that we can listen.

Great point! Lists are always subjective, and it's impossible to please everyone. The most important thing is to explore and discover new talents. And yes, there are many great guitarists out there, known or not. It's worth checking out names like Duke Robillard, Kirk Fletcher, Josh Smith, Mike Bloomfield, Jay Geils, Frank Marino, Lonesome Dave Preverett, and Ronnie Earl. The beauty of the blues lies in its diversity and the talent of so many incredible musicians. Thanks for the comment!
