CLIP DESCRIPTION:
Cal (Seth Rogen) tells Andy (Steve Carell) that the way to talk to women is to just ask questions.
FILM DESCRIPTION:
One man nervously ventures forth into the final frontier in this comedy starring comic actor Steve Carell. Andy Stitzer (Carell) is a cheerfully geeky guy who is settling into middle age with his large collection of comic books, action figures, and collectable models. Andy works in an electronics store, and seems reasonably happy with his life. However, one day his friends and co-workers David (Paul Rudd), Jay (Romany Malco), and Cal (Seth Rogen) discover that Andy has a secret -- due to his rather severe jitters around women, Andy is still a virgin. Andy's pals are appalled at this state of affairs, and set out to find a woman who'd be willing to get horizontal with him. After a number of disastrous dates, everyone thinks Andy has finally struck gold when he meets Trish (Catherine Keener), an attractive single mother who takes an immediate liking to him. What the other guys don't know is that Trish has just gotten out of a bad relationship, and has informed Andy she isn't ready to be intimate with him just yet. The 40-Year-Old Virgin was the first feature film directed by Judd Apatow, who previously served as a writer and producer for the well-regarded television shows Freaks and Geeks, Undeclared, and The Larry Sanders Show.

Well how Carell did it was a little over the top. But it does work. And its not going to work for everybody because not all women are going to be attracted to you. But its worked for me. Not intentionally. It usually works when I am at the bar and some girl starts talking to me when I am not even interested in talking. So I kind of act like Carrell except if you can Imagine me not even wanting to talk. It isn't til I realize she isn't giving up that I know theres a slight chance she might be into me. So I become a little more aggressive back. And that goes for rather they approach you or you to them. You always want to make sure the conversation is equally or more aggressive as yours. If not, then its time to walk away. Thats the sign to get a clue.

@@sethkinslow674 There's really no 'one size fits all' method of talking to women. What works with one may fail miserably with another. This doesn't take into account how your attitude can change the nature of a conversation from good to bad even if the words are good on paper. There's a reason you need to learn this stuff early the older you get the harder it gets. The biggest mistake is trying to find the perfect solution that works everytime.

IF the goal is a romantic long term relationship: The problem is not: knowing how to talk to women. The problem is: knowing how to talk to people. Know the basic principles of conversation that apply universally to people of all sexes and genders. The number one thing is that conversation is a turn taking process... say a little bit, hit the ball back over the net... allow the other person to build on what you were saying. Also, be yourself, because being yourself is a filter... it filters out the people you have less chemistry with. Being yourself also increases the odds that people similar to you will be interested in you. If you act generic (not yourself) then the people similar to the real you won't recognize that you're one of them because you're disguising yourself.

@@apseudonym the unfortunate truth is that a loot of people, mostly straight single young men, are constantly being sold the "chad alpha" scam, and fall in the trap of "self improvement" witouth realizing that they never asked themselves "how the best version of myself looks". so they try desperately to achive the ideal of "the perfect men" beliving that will atract all women like the same things, and end up in a cycle of self hatred.

Being yourself can only repel. If there are no jagged edges (ie, no personality traits not in common) there can be no issues. You are universally acceptable.

They’re both just good actors. Maybe there’s some improv in there but I’d imagine that’s pretty natural when shooting flirting scenes in a comedy. Elizabeth and Steve had such great comedic energy in this scene. It worked.
