0:38 What is Epstein-Barr virus (EBV)
2:10 Important things to know about EBV
9:25 Things that can trigger EBV
10:13 Preventing Epstein-Barr virus (EBV)
11:32 Learn more about how to reduce stress!
Today I want to explain five things you need to know about the Epstein-Barr virus (EBV). Roughly 95 percent of the population has the Epstein-Barr virus. The more you know about EBV, the less you’ll be adversely affected by it.
The Epstein-Barr virus can use different strategies to go under the radar and survive in a person’s body. The virus can go dormant and become very difficult for the body to detect.
You can never get rid of EBV-you have to focus on keeping it in remission. To keep it in remission, you need to understand the strategies of the virus and how to support the immune system to keep it under control.
Important things to know about the Epstein-Barr virus:
1. You can’t get rid of it
2. It’s associated with an increased risk of certain cancers, autoimmune diseases, rheumatoid arthritis, chronic fatigue syndrome, and fibromyalgia
3. It blocks key immune nutrients that your cells depend on, like vitamin D, vitamin A, and zinc
4. It modulates fever response
5. Emotional stress may trigger EBV to come out of remission
Three things to help inhibit EBV from coming out of remission:
1. Decrease your stress and exposure to triggers
2. Take cod liver oil
3. Choose one or two of these herbs:
• Elderberry
• Echinacea
• Olive leaf extract
• Andrographis
• Astragalus

A friend had stroke symptoms and was sent to our local hospital ER. After 2-days, they sent him home saying that there was nothing they could do for him. Someone told his wife to take him to Doctor X, DC immediately. The doctor tested him for EBV, the test was positive and was affecting his brain. He was treated with UV light therapy and after a few sessions, the symptoms began to disappear. After a few months, he was able to drive and return to work. The only lingering problem is some short-term memory loss. BTW, the same hospital misdiagnosed my wife’s sepsis, and sent her home too. Fortunately, we have a good hospital 50-miles away that saved her life.

Tell your friend to eat more fats & meats to get a short term memory back. But drop the sugars & carbohydrates turn to sugars. Fats never allow for any inflammation & is the only food that heal! I had EBV as a child at 5. At 70 I’ve got a short term memory despite decades of no memory!

Back in the mid 90's my mom was diagnosed with EBV. At the time she was under a fair amount of stress and always tired. She was advised to rest as much as possible and reduce stress. Another doctor mentioned to my mom to be careful, as this virus can be a contributing factor to some cancers as you've mentioned. Year 2000 my mom was again not feeling well and diagnosed with non Hodgkins lymphoma. She had a small hard unmovable lump under her chin, the first area to be aspirated showing cancer cells. With chemo pill treatment she came through and is 90yrs old. So many of your points need to be taken seriously in a world that has too much stress.

It could be a cure/holistic/adjustment/herbal supplement/life extension type of place that has brought back all of the natural plant based nutraceuticals that the Rockefellers undermined. When I was 37 I came down with Mono. I was working two jobs, 7 days a week, had two children under 3.5. I was ill for many weeks, my throat had Quincy, my liver was so swollen I could not bend. I was on strict bed rest for about 5 weeks. I felt like I was dying. I am now 65 and I have felt so tired every single day of my life since then. I absolutely believe that EBV never leaves you. Even now, my liver enzymes remain in the high normal range. I was a med lab technologist for 43 years and kept an eye on my blood test results.

My husband died of Burkitt Lymphoma last August. He didn't have AIDS and we had not known a time that he had EBV, but I realize a person may not know that they have had the EBV virus. I can't help but wonder if the more recent virus and even the shot might have had something to do with the sudden activation of this cancer. Now I see they may have worked together. Needless to say, the last six months have been the most stressful of my life by far. I've watched all your videos about stress and stress reduction. Somethings you just have to live through. @8:33 YES DR BERG! I'll share my EBV story below: About 7 years ago, I woke up one morning completely and utterly drained. I remember rolling over ans telling my husband that I felt like I was hit by a bus. Then I had the same level of exhaustion the next day, and the day after that. I did some bloodwork for the usual culprits like thyroid, Iron, and B12- all normal. I dragged on like this for a few months. Then, I happened to listen to a professional webinar about EBV and it clicked! Sure enough, I confirmed with labs a few days later. As I was driving home, I chatted with a friend telling her "man, you'll never believe what I figured out today! I've basically had mono for months!" She quickly said "I'm glad you know! Good thing it's Friday and you can rest this weekend. Don't get out of your jammies even once!" And that's when it hit me. I hadn't allowed myself to rest (even on the weekends) in MANY MONTHS. That weekend alone, I had 2-3 work related engagements, which meant I would be out working all weekend long. I vowed then to take stuff off my plate and work on work-life balance. I fiddled with antiviral and immune boosting supplements for a while and they always got me out of a flare. But I started feeling like I was dependant on them, which I didn't like. The real MAGIC came once I switched to adaptogens and nervines- herbs that help with the stress response. Since I made that switch (and continued to work on my stress level and work-life balance) I haven't had a recurrence in about 5 years. I hope my story helps somebody 🥰

Hi Dr. Berg, I just got out of hospital, 7 days on an Ertapenem drip for a Serratia Marcecens lung infection, which had been only days before cultured as Kleibsella Aerogenes, and before that e-Coli. I was hospitalized because I am allergic to almost all antibiotics, and I suffered 2 anaphylactic episodes due to the antibiotic Fosfomycin (new to me) that I was first given orally and the the ER changed the antibiotic to Nitrofurantoin, and I took 5 before going into severe anaphylaxis, ambulance, ER and admitted to hospital. I have no immune system from cancer treatments (thyroid stage II, and breast) and so I understand why I am a “host” for such bacteria. However, it appears my allergies are getting worse, and I’m beginning to feel like “bubble girl”. You touched on something no doctor in my more than 70 years has said - fevers and the immune system. The emergency room doctor who admitted me said ordinarily they would not admit; however, due to the drug sensitivities, IV Ertapenem had to be used (I had it before during a Covid lung infection), and I had to be monitored. I asked why I never have a fever - ever. My body temperature, even feeling like it’s the end, hovers around 97.3F. He told me because I am immunocompromised, my body cannot make a fever to fight off the invaders. For the first time in my life, it all made sense to me. I just thought because I am always hypothyroid, I’m always cold. YOU are the only other doctor who has ever mentioned this, and to me, it seems to be extremely important that MDs not dismiss patients because even though they have all the symptoms of a serious infection, they have no fever. I know, I know, you are a DC, not an MD or DO, but to me and millions of people you are a SMD (SUPER MEDICAL DOCTOR), and I thank you so much for the knowledge you impart to all of us. God bless.

Gosh so sad that you had to go through all of that 💖🌟 By the way to the person reacting, before and after giving birth is normal because the immune system of your body is then occupied with making sure this new life can thrive. Everything is so very well explained in the Medical Medium books which you can also get for free in the library or of course for free on all social media or his website. It has just been such huge relief for myself as well as for my daughter. We are almost completely back to super healthy and we were so very deep .. Healing is possible and when you understand how and why it is even inevitable I would say 💖💖🌟🌟 Wishing you many many years ahead without any shingles or other viruses troubling your life. Lots of love and light 💖💖🌟🌟

I have learned in my older age something about stress. It is impossible to prevent stressful events from occurring, but what is vital is how we perceive them and how we respond to them. Stress events will always happen. With all the craziness that is going on now a days there are lots of things to stress about, but I am watching myself not get stressed and not worry. I know what my limits are, what I can control and what I can't. It takes practice. When I was younger I would get so stressed that I would go 'into outer space' and actually took zanex it was so bad. I am grateful that I have learned to not react.

Dear Dr Berg, you and your team have a knack for timely videos in sync with what us viewers just start thinking of almost in real time to need. By any chance do you have anything on heterophillic antibodies, immunoglobulins due to carbohydrate antigens (such as CA-19 marker)? This carb antigen stuff seems as important as lectins as I research it. Also may I suggest bringing Elliot Overton into your team, he's British but his knowledge set is totality level when he understands something. His channel is EONutrition. I figure anything that advances research is good.

Thank you for this, I have been fighting with EBV since my early 20s, I'm now late 50s and it took my physician over 15 years and lord knows how many pints of blood to Finally diagnose me, ill never forget the day when he decided to do 1 last test on a hunch and told me I was the poster child for EBV, he also said it's viral and nothing can be done and sent me on my way, it has been debilitating to say the least, especially as a single father of 2 young boys at the time...it's never left me but does increases and decreases quite often. Usually around stressful situations... you absolutely nailed it here...It's rather difficult to explain to someone that does not have the heavy symptoms of being tired and bones aching daily..you learn to live with it, I did the olive leaf tea for 2 years, not sure if it helped or not, I didn't know about the zink and vitamin A so I will look into that, I have been taking vitamin D since covid hit.. would you have a recommended amount of Zink,A,D Vitamins or just take the daily recommended amount... thank you for all you do on your videos....

About 5 or 6 years ago I was checked for EBV and my numbers were off the charts. I still have most of the symptoms, severe chronic fatigue, sore throats, extremely achey joint pains, brain fog. But what I never knew was that my inability to develop fevers is related! This is so enlightening. I can get very sick, and if feels like I have the flu, but my body never develops fevers. Normally I feel on the cool side so I usually wear sweatshirts and hoodies and go to bed fully covered in long johns and socks and multiple blankets, even though I live in Hawaii! And I do this year round, even in summer! But I also suffer from a lot of work related stress that affects my cortisol levels to the point that I don't sleep long, or enough, and am chronically constipated as well. I've also developed extremely dry skin and have patches of what looks like eczema on my chest, back, behind my ears and in the corner of my eye and nose. I keep that at bay by applying olive oil to my skin, which it loves and completely absorbs quickly. Since my cortisol is high, exercise isn't good for me. Any time I exert myself physically too much my body goes into overdrive and I have worse problems sleeping and going to the bathroom. So it's a matter of always having to manage it and learn how to live with it. I'm not doing a very good job. I probably need to switch careers (I work as a substitute teacher and working with kids all day is extremely draining). Anyway, thanks to this video I will definitely up my intake of vitamins A and D, and zinc. Hopefully, that will help.

You don’t need to “exercise” in the typical gym type style. But seriously with high cortisol you want to force yourself to go for a walk in nature daily. Start 10 min. Then try to increase to 20 min. minimum. Because studies show walking actually lowers cortisol because the walking utilizes it. It’s hard to convince people. But all that cortisol needs to be used and if you don’t move it just stays. I suggest you go to a quality naturopath, not the whoowhoo kinds, and they will help you wonderfully. I encourage you to get it under control and learn about this because autoimmune, and cancer is the long term results if not.

In the late 1990s, I came down with EB and Fibromyalgia. It was the worse case doctors had seen at the time in the Los Angeles area and I was put on full medical disability. This was very unusual at the time, because EB/F was barely recognized as a "thing" by many medical people. My doctor told me that the viruses in my body were "very old and could be multi generational." I don't know the how/why the research knew this all I knew was that I was so ill, I looked like I had no blood and felt like it too for several years. And, yes, I had come down with it due to very severe stress in my work life and some unhealthy practices - sugar, lack of sleep. We ended up moving to a place with a much quieter/more gentle way of life, I changed my eating habits and made sure that I walked (very important) at least a mile each day.

EBV is primarily spread through close personal contact, such as kissing or sharing utensils, as well as through exchange of bodily fluids, such as semen or blood. EBV can also be spread through transplantation of infected organs or blood transfusions. Once contracted, the virus can remain dormant in the body for years before reactivating and causing symptoms.

Go work with a reputable Natropathic dr. They deal with this all the time. And I think all the people around us shedding the vaccine is also instigating a lot of people’s EBV. At first I didn’t believe it, but I found that when you are around a lot of people who recently got the shot (actually any vaccine) their immune system kicks up and they start shedding the virus, though it is not active and won’t make us sick, our immune system also fires up and starts going into protection mode. But when we have EBV the B cells may be stressed and we are not fighting off the shedding as well as we should be. Again, that maybe incorrect, but the shedding is real from all viruses. And our B cells being bogged down by stress, and disease and bad eating does wear the body out.

I'm so glad this video came out. It explains so much. I caught cold sores (HSV-1) about 10 years ago and my body has never been able to put them into latency. I noticed a lot of strange things happening to me. It reactivated every other herpesvirus I had in latency, including chickenpox and EBV. I suddenly was intolerant of a lot of foods that supposedly boost the immune system. I now get gastrically or allergically ill when I try to supplement with the exact herbs, foods, and vitamins to help fight herpesviruses but never did before, so I assume that the virus must have tweaked my immune system in some way. Doctors also consistently miss infections in my body because I very rarely ever run a fever. All of these things changed after infection. I've now been diagnosed with an immunodeficiency because my NK and B cells do not function correctly. I've been to the top medical facilities in the US and nobody has ever seen anything like this and nobody knows what to do, so now I'm trying to handle it with lifestyle and dietary changes. This is how damaging these viruses can be.

I came down with a severe case of mono when I was 15. I lost a year of my life due to how sick I was. I’ve noticed that it comes back whenever I go through a series trauma. I also have multiple autoimmune disorders and have always believed they are connected to the mono. A while back I started having it rear up again. After some research, I discovered lysine and colloidal silver. They help a lot. Thank you for this new information Dr. Berg!

When I was a teen I became infected with Mononucleosis aka EBV. It was awful. After the infection was gone I thought it was done! WRONG!!! It made me chronically fatigued throughout all my teen years. This was in early 2000 btw, when not a lot was known about this virus or at least when not many doctors were knowable about it. I was always tired which in turn made me feel extremely depressed! How can anyone be happy when all you want to do is sleep! Doctors NEVER put two and two together. They put me on antidepressants because they said “well you’re tired because you’re depressed.” I knew that wasn’t true! All throughout my teen years I kept having issue with my tonsils and doctors would swab my throat and come back then say “oh it’s just some virus causing it!” Not only that but the antidepressants never help but made me feel worse due to the side effects. What should have been the best years of my life was the absolute worse!! Doctors only made me feel like I was just a mental nut case. I started feeling better when I had my tonsils removed. But it still took a many more years after to feel normal again.

He talks about hashimoto alot and has said for years it's caused by the various stages of EBV making its way through your body. Stage 5 I believe is to do with thyroid and neurological side effects. He goes into what type of foods and supplements you can take to not 'feed' the virus. It's called Thyroid Healing.

It threw my thyroid levels into high gear so I had to slowly cut back the dose of thyroid pills to level out and not feel like I’m starving all the time….my thyroid started functioning normally..,I have one large tumor on my thyroid left that’s still shrinking…the other benefits I’ve noticed is my eye sight is getting better and the bone spurs I had in my rotator cuff and on the inner part of my spinal cord that caused massive pain but in operable are gone…

For over the past year I've been experiencing the worst health problems of my life and my primary dr can't figure it out. (I did have covid last year). They finally ran an EBV panel 2 months ago and saw the reactivation. All they are doing is sending me to an ID Dr in a couple of months. I don't have a couple of months at this rate. This is debilitating and I need a plan to heal but doctors know nothing about this virus, it's sad. Thank you for sharing this info and bringing awareness to such an awful and prevalent problem!

Find a good quality naturopathic dr. The regular doctors don’t believe this stuff and are useful for diagnosis and synthetic drugs. There are many naturopath drs who deal with this all day and have great results. In the meantime , moderate exercise, Vit d3/k2, omega 3, zinc! Querctin… then research biocidin along with OliveRex. Research Monolaurin. Research BHT the additive. These are all in the sphere where nature medicine is finds great results. And stress. Deal with it now, because most lymphomas are cancers of the B cells and I have yet to meet a reg dr who thinks EBV is related to lymphomas. But the naturopathic drs do.

People need to learn about EBV and how devastating it can be. I ignored it and it went down hard on me. I lost allmost all of my physical capabilities. My muscles were so tired that everyday felt like i had done hours of cycling. Even then i kept going and probably made things much worse. Especially the stress when i kept pushing myself at work. Strangely enough going on a keto diet helped me eleviating this constant feeling of burned out muscles. But dont know if thats just a coincidence, at that point i already tried to recover for several months. Either way i still have a long way to recovery and can just advice everyone to take it seriously, especiially since most doctors dont see the severity it can have.

THANK YOU!! I have reactivating EBV and recently have been taking 15, 000 IUs D3, and noticed since upping my dose I have had no episodes! Now, I also have a clue as to why, while taking 15,000 IUs my D3 levels are still below 30. Will be increasing my dose. I do know that the upper most limit to take is 50,000 IUs. Most important, I always take vitamin D3 with K2 as well as magnesium. K2 will keep the calcium in the bones and magnesium plays a role in utilization of vitamin D3 in body. Also, EBV puts one at risk for MS, among other maladies, but D3 reduces the risk of MS. THANK YOU SO MUCH!!! Wish my doctor had shared this information with me when I was diagnosed. Sinai hospital to get this new fangled test for a newly named illness… Epstein-Barr. Until then it was a virus of unknown origin. Well, yup I had it and it changed my life forever. Six months after diagnosis I still had liver and lung issues. Two years later I developed digestive issues which turned into Crohns and it was a nasty case. My immune system was so messed up nothing helped. Forty years on and I still go in and out of EBV and Crohns remissions…. Amongs several other systems that went south.

Your advice is relevant, timely, and insightful. I very much listen to you and trust your knowledge. Question re: EBV and eggs, specifically egg whites. Doctors seem to be in one of two camps. Either the albumen in egg whites f(x)s as trigger/catalyst for EBV resurgence, particularly for long term Covid folks who also have EBV, or, eggs are perfectly safe and the whites are too. I’ve eliminated eggs for 10 days during a flare up of EBV, and I did feel surprisingly much better- especially my joints. I reintroduced scrambled eggs on day 11, and about three hours after that my joints felt like they were on fire. I was not only very sore for about a day and a half after that: I was stunned. Again abstained from eggs for ten days. Then allowed myself to have only egg yolk (in avocado oil mayo). No reaction. No soreness. None. Thoughts? Dr. Berg? Anyone?

The thing about EBV in small pox sh0ts was that although it was suspected, it could not be identified until electron microscopy was developed enough in the early 1970s. Small Pox shOts were recommended for young Australians going north on our travels after high school and university. They were really bad for our health. Im a 28 year old male, who has had EBV for a year and 3 months of almost constant sickness. A fit 4-5 day gym routine has now been changed to a life altering 0 exercise lifestyle. It started with 1 month of tonsillitis, then chronic fatigue for a few months and the only way i bounced back from that was anti depressants- which was such a necessity for me, such a stressful sickness at this young age. It helped me recover from chronic fatigue. I only just recently stopped getting really sore muscles but im unsure if that is a help with a different low dose anti depressant my dr put me on to numb pain. I now have constant inflammation, seen an infectious disease specialist recently and he said i do not have chronic epstein barr virus, but EBV has just caused a domino effect of sicknesses. Intermittent fasting and extreme reduction in carbs or none at all make the inflammation manageable.

I’ve been suffering from CFS mono and Candida for 4 years and I had a nutritionist that was helping me but she gave me so many supplements that I could only take at certain times of day and I could only eat very restrictively which was really hard because of that she dropped me as a client just in time for me to go to the hospital for colon failure they kept me alive and I can work but I’m tired all the time I smell like bacteria regularly no matter how much I shower and I can’t do exercise because of autoimmune problems so I understand how hopeless it can feel

Hi Dr. Berg. I hope you get this message. I just started following you and was diagnosed with Epstein Barr a couple of years ago. I had the kissing disease as a child. My Psychiatrist is going to test me to see if it has returned. It sure explains why I feel so horrible and fatigued all the time. You helped me understand about this virus more than anyone else. Thank you. Now, if you could help me to get off of Diet Pepsi and sugar!

I went cold turkey with coke..it wasn't easy..everything I drove past a McDonald's, my brain was wired to pull in and get a coke..I lost 10 pounds or more..I still have cravings but I ignore and order ice water now..a plain cheeseburger,no salt..has helped..try keto light or dirty..it helps with weight..also for diabetics..the dexcom 7 has been extremely helpful..

I hadn't even considered EBV being a forever virus. Interesting too is its disruption of the bodies uptake of vitamin D and Zinc, two prime nutrients for minimizing the present viral threat. Stress being a mechanism to open the door for this viral threat. Stress is everywhere! I'm only starting to get the big picture! If only I had started this path 50 years ago. Oh no, more Stress! Well, better late than never! Thank you again, Dr Berg.

This they said was the root cause and precursor to my Hashimoto's thyroiditis and adrenal insufficiency issues... and it is the main culprit in so many other people's autoimmune diseases so it needs to be talked about and dealt with it's an epidemic on society most people don't even know...
