Great video Tim 👏👏 One of the beautiful and life changing facets of ACT is that it can help us to do what matters in life- even if those self-sabotaging, self-defeating thoughts show up. As you say, if you were ‘fused’ with those thoughts- this video would never be made. So we’ll done 👏👏 I too am on the journey, of making reliable and trustworthy content- while bringing my mind along with me for the ride:) Let’s connect again soon, Cheers buddy, Paul.

People should live value-driven lives. This of course requires a deliberate values clarification. We need to answer this question: What are our top guiding values, and why?

@@TimothyGordon I’ve watched your video on relational frame theory. I understand the broad strokes. I’d like a companion video on how understanding rft actually impacts you as a counselor in session. How does the understanding guide you? I’m not sure that’s the video that would get you a lot of views, but you asked what I wanted! :)

It would be useful if ACT values could at times combine with Seligman's signature strengths. But the latter could help guide folks into what actions & commitments. Just a thought.

Yes!!! Tony, I love this idea. I bet if you created something combining the two as a sort of set of worksheets or activities, people would LOVE that and utilize it immediately.

A year and a half ago I watched while a friend of mine died in front of me. It was in the front lobby of the hotel I was working at at the time. You know what my boss said to me? "He's not going anywhere now get over here and takeover the shift" I did, worked the next 3 days straight. As of today his lifeless face is the last thing I see before bed and the first thing I think of when I wake up. I cannot find a therapist, I am too messed up to focus and I can think of only one solution to get these thoughts to stop. I want another option, but no one wants to help me, so what the fuck do I do? If I hear, "call this or do that," know that I've tried, numerous crisis lines, intakes, counsellors and stress experts. There is more, a lot more, but that is way more personal than I am willing to share...

Thank you for making this video, I can say this is the best video I've seen in 2023. ACT is such an interesting approach that I resonate, but it can be difficult to grasp and implement (especially "self as context"), I find your video very very helpful, as I think you did just that. I particularly like the example you gave on Viktor Frankle's famous quote. I am gonna save and rewatch this video many times, please continue to make these amazing videos!

Have you explored Internal Family Systems (IFS) therapy?
@TimothyGordon
@TimothyGordon 4 ай бұрын
Yes I have! I use the “Inner Active” cards regularly. Do you know much about IFS? Apart from the cards, I don’t integrate IFS into my trauma work with clients.
@cryptobull2493

I appreciate your reply! Yes, I’m pretty knowledgeable with IFS and use it with my clients that have PTSD. The results are astonishingly good. It’s always an amazing experience watching clients heal the exiled parts of themselves during the unburdening process. I think you’re a very talented therapist and you’d be great at IFS if you’re interested in exploring it further. It’s really not that big of a leap from ACT to IFS. I watched a video of you talking about trauma and ACT self-as-context and it sounded a lot like clients unblending and accessing Self Energy as described in IFS, which prompted my question to you.

@@cryptobull2493 cool! Can we set up a time to have a chat and talk about IFS? Maybe I can do a video on me learning about IFS and integrating it into my work - if you’re comfortable with it, we could collaborate on a video or training!?
