Young people need outlets to release their excessive energy and creativity. It's best to make sure they don't go overboard and find a safe place to let it out. Graffiti is a huge problem in the West, so are substance abuse and violent behaviours. China must keep a tight rein and not let them go haywire. Ideally the youngsters could use the opportunity to figure out where their future careers are going and learn how to make a living. 798 Art District needs similar parallel districts for youngsters interested in STEM and sports, and not artsy stuff.

I think that’s a great point… a place for exploring other topics rather than Art, I like that 👍🏼

798 Art District is one of my favorite places to visit when in Beijing. It is really fun and interesting. I highly encourage people to go there and to check it out if you're in Beijing. ; )

It is a great area and definitely worth checking out if people do get the chance to visit Beijing - I agree, it is also one of my favourite areas in Beijing. 👍

Always fun to see 798. I can almost not recognise it, only the overall structure. Haven't been there for years.

My own 2 cents, love the video and your take on the changes. I would expect all would love to explore a new place that is safe, quiet, and beautiful and make something of their own in that place; like writing on the wall, "I was here." It's only inevitable that as a place becomes known and is a potential place for profit, that corporate interests would take notice and slowly take over. Unfortunately, corporate interests are not known to be in touch with the community, nor are they interested. They will leave as soon as there is not sufficient profit to make, and leave whatever is left of a place for others to pickup the pieces, if ever.

Great insight and I do think the 798 will evolve and will loose some of its charm, but then gain it back as it all settles into a familiar balance of what people want from that type of area. People will speak with their Choices 👍🏼

Definitely recommend a visit… it has changed a fair bit (constantly changing) but such a great place to visit to see how creative China is. 👍

Iain. Social experiment. When you're back in Scotland, show the timelapse to people who don't know you live in China. Ask them to guess the location. . I'll bet that if you showed it to 100 people, fewer than 10 would say China and fewer than 5 would say Beijing. . Certainly up to the "Pop video" point, I would expect Spain, California, Florida (pick a city) to be top choices. .

They would never guess it is Beijing… I know this because I did it last year and people were so surprised. But I am going to look at how I can build a bit of that into a video this time I go back. Also, the video I hope to get out mid week, a walk down the side of the lakes at Beihai is simply stunning. So much so I am going to just let the video do the talking.!

Ok Mr Bookworm, have you read the Three Body Book and how did it compare to the Three Body Tencent tv series, plus Netflix tv series. Last, what is China best tv series that the west would enjoy to watch ?
@ForAllLifesAdventures
@ForAllLifesAdventures 15 күн бұрын
I actually have not read the Three Body Problem, I hear that is is an incredible book - do you recommend it.? I tend to read more non-fiction books, economics and political, self development books. I did watch the TV series over a few weeks and it was very good. Not sure if it was a true representation, but Lisa, said it had a lot of artistic license. I actually don’t watch a lot of TV these days and only a select few movies so couldn’t recommend a Chinese series. What would you recommend? I will ask Lisa, but again, Lisa tends to watch Japanese, English and Spanish programmes as she is learning these languages and uses that to practice.

@@ForAllLifesAdventures Sadly I am much more into documentaries than reading books and I prefer to watch Asian movies or tv series these days. Parasyte: The Grey on Netflix is so cool. Last. Mr Wang Baoqiang is my total fav actor to watch. Lost on Journey, I fell off my chair hahaha. Last last. me reading or me listening to my music. My music always seems to win...Its a black thing lol...

I really liked the first part, but the timelapswas to fast and made me uncomfortable to the point I had to close my eyes. (Maybe because of old age, or because of the two brain strokes I suffered before). 😅

Thanks Luc, I am going to look again at how to use the wee camera better. Maybe slow it down when I come to edit.. good feedback. 👍🏼 thank you. I might also spin off the Hyper Lapse into a playlist of just Hyper Lapse walk and keep it short so more people can see China and challenge their perspectives 👍🏼

Looks like it has indeed changed. The old 798 I remember was shabbier and quirkier. Maybe even artier and more interesting, perhaps more avant-garde, hard to tell with the time lapse (a slow vid might have been better; my old head was spinning). The new 798 still looks cool though, but maybe a bit sanitized, with the old charm now gone for good...?
@ForAllLifesAdventures
@ForAllLifesAdventures 18 күн бұрын
Yeah, I think the time lapse was too much!! 😂 I will work on that. I think the old 798 was cool and had a rebellious feel to it… now you have to look hard for that but it is still a very cool place and I think, when more work is done, it will be an interesting place for all things creative. 👍

@@Drogonmoon 2020 was pandemic time so it would have been, mid week it is quiet. Early evening it’s ok and weekends it is busy but it’s going through a lot of building of new places. Pre pandemic it was certainly much busier and much cooler to see more unusual artists etc.

I left my sunglasses on a seat and walked away and forgot about them and didn’t realise until the next day. Obviously they were gone, someone said I should have checked the police station… they would possibly have been handed in there. Thankfully they were my cheap glasses I bought from a corner shop just to get me through the day so didn’t loose much! Thanks for the thought on the followers… I reckon it will take time and I am in no rush but it would be great for more people to see the real China and also question their own understanding and more importantly- question why they are not being told truths.! 👍
