Album: I Robot 1977
È ispirato a un'antologia di racconti di fantascienza di Isaac Asimov dal titolo Io Robot.
It was intended to be based on the I, Robot stories written by Isaac Asimov

Traduzione in italiano:
Non farlo notare
Se sta diventando più difficile affrontare ogni giorno,
non farlo notare, non farlo notare.
Anche se è più difficile accettare ciò che dicono,
lascia andare, lascia andare.

This song has a lot of special meaning to me, I first heard it when I was in middle school and was going through a lot of bullying and long story short: I was feeling very depressed and had even contemplated suicide. Those first few words really struck me: "If it's getting harder to face every day. don't let it show, don't let it show, though it's getting harder to take what they say, just let it go, just let it go." It got me through that dark time in my life and now I listen to this song anytime I'm having a bad day and it reminds me "don't let it show" because I'm gonna be okay.

gameshowfreak2007 I would listen to this song myself when I was being bullied. Once I didn't let show. They lost interest. Most of us have a good heart within ourselves. Not a bully a bully has the heart of a coward. Our hearts say thump thump a coward's heart just says coward coward coward. Don't be a bully and you won't be a coward. Pretty simple really

Wow! Thank you for sharing this painful time in your life. Isn't amazing what seemingly superficial or really simple things we clung and cling onto in order to survive. I am so glad you had this song. And I am so sorry you had to endure any bullying. I know back then everyone let it go. Once I stepped forward to help someone and a friend grabbed my arm saying,"No don't. They will turn on you.' But I was just a skinny girl against several mean boys. But still to this day it haunts me. It was 7th grade. I could not understand why people just stood there. I am sorry you only had a song instead of people to help you.

@@melanie6771 Exactly ! I am from France and have had bullying at work mainly. Then, over the last 6 years, I have been bullied in my private life by people I don't even know (on the roads, in the supermarkets and other public places). But, on the contrary to all of you, I go to them and INSULT them in a very bad temper and bad words. They all say that I am daft. But, never mind because THEY are the insanes ! They are NUTS ! So, I don't care shouting at them in public. Even the police told me to calm down, but I never had trouble with them. In my opinion, and I shall be hard : the stalkers must die !!! So : I have not been able so far to go along the lines of what is advised in this song !

My brother passed away today and I had some warning he would. A few days before I was listening to some old songs from when we were young and came across this song. I was there in the room, with his sons, when he died. Though I believe he is with God, the words from this song came to my mind while I was with "his boys." It all was like my brother Phil was sending a message to stay strong for his sons...and don't let the heartbreak show.

I sure would hate to have children in today's world. Anyone who chooses to bring children into this horrible time period (2023) is not doing those innocent souls any favor. I find that most people who decide to bring children into this modern day are very selfish. These people need to think about and consider what kind of world they are bringing these children into before they decide to start having children instead of them thinking about themselves only. Not just anyone should be allowed to be a parent either. Anyone who wants to be a parent should be required by law to undergo a Psych Evaluation along with a background check. They should also be required to get counseling. There are too many people who are parents who should not be allowed to be parents.

"Don't Let It Show" If it's getting harder to face every day, Don't let it show, don't let it show. Though it's getting harder to take what they say, Just let it go, just let it go... And if it hurts when they mention my name, Say you don't know me... And if it helps when they say I'm to blame, Say you don't owe me... Even if it's taking the easy way out, Keep it inside of you. Don't give in. Don't tell them anything. Don't let it, Don't let it show. Even though you know it's the wrong thing to say, Say you don't care, say you don't care. Even if you want to believe there's a way, I won't be there...I won't be there... But if you smile when they mention my name, They'll never know you. And if you laugh when they say I'm to blame, They'll never own you. Even if you feel you've got nothing to hide, Keep it inside of you. Don't give in, Don't tell them anything. Don't let it- Don't let it show.

Stan Dreckman I've never understood that to be the pre-requisite to being ahead of your time, I always understood it to be a music styling done by individuals ( or bands) that was later picked up as a trend. A perfect example is Giorgio Moroder's late 70's EDM treatment of Donna Summer's I feel love. That was truly ahead of it time and it wasn't until the late 80's early 90 the Electronic Dance filled raves. hey JMO, what the hell do I know, it's all good. I was just asking Cheers :)

I'd think that "ahead of your/their time" would depend on whether you were comparing it to current music coming out in the same time frame or that particular style of music showing up years down the road in a future time frame, hence it was "ahead of its time". Potato...Potatto Either way, Alan Parsons is a truly gifted musical genius. And Cheers to everyone also!

Just for the record.. "I Robot" is a concept album. Or, in other words, each song on the album is part of an overall story line (quite common in prog rock, look at "The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway" by Genesis or "Clutching at Straws" by Marillion). So in this way, the lyrics are often meant to be taken very literally with little or no hidden meaning. I Robot's overall plot involves robots taking over humanity. In "Don't Let it Show", the protagonist has done something very wrong in the robots' eyes, and will be executed for his wrongdoing. He is simply telling his lover (or some other person) that nothing will save him, and for her own safety she must never let the robots know she was involved with him. So, no, the song has nothing to do with depression/suicide, anything like that... It's part of a STORY. (Of course, if the song has any deeper significance to any of you folks, or if it really did help someone get through depression, there's nothing wrong with that.)

Thirty years ago my heart was ripped out and shredded before my eyes. When I first heard this song, I sent it on the wind to someone I would not see again for many years, my wish for him, a directive from me to help him through what I knew would be a difficult time. I hear it now and the ache comes right back. I don't think he got the message that was in the wind or understood how I ached for his pain as well as my own. We get through things in this lifetime. We just don't always get over them.

The singer is about to be executed by the robots and he's telling his lover that, whatever she does, when the robots come for her, she mustn't say anything. She must just deny all emotion for him even though it will be extremely difficult.

I beg to differ, the song is a robot who is about to be destroyed by humans and is begging its companion not to show any feelings (the reason the first robot is being destroyed) otherwise it will never be owned and will have the same fate. I think this is clear as the song comes from the album, I, Robot which--for lack of a better term--is a rock opera based on the Issac Asimov short stories.

True words indeed how Alan Parsons does depict lonely people who suffer depression deep down. I've done a lot to try and get over it, but regardless even I must learn some people won't care about how I feel in the end.
