important thing to note is that Akebi, despite looking relatively good, is a flop. You can tell by how there were no reports of increase manga sales, merchandise, nor source material sales. Just because a show may look relatively good, doesn't really mean much if it fails to lead to merchandising, source material sales. Although Aniplex is a massive anime producer, they don't have the complete share when it comes to merchandising. I feel it has become an arms race to get a new hit show as fast as possible to compete with existing proven shows. The competition has severely increased. Gridman by Trigger managed to get quite a lot of merchandising. more than 86 and Dress Up Darling, despite relatively low viewership. Those chinese gachas invading the industry and ready to produce anime like Azur Lane and Dolls Frontline that have abysmall viewership and terrible reviews yet make a ton of merch. Re Zero getting big very fast despite White Fox losing a ton of staff. Date A Live is already considered the best looking show this season, and has managed to beat 90%+ of animes in merchandising + having high viewership despite its history of having to switch studios every season due to financial problems, and its current anime coming from a supposed no name studio. Notice how Aniplex were quick to get Maruto and Tsunako to make a new rom com for their premiere studio A1. All of these shows have one thing in common. They come from relatively small studios from supposedly smaller production committees being outside Aniplex. I am probably not 100% correct on my analysis, but I do feel it has become an arms race.

You're correct about small studios making better projects. Canipa Effect also said that in his video titled "Anime: The Broken Industry". Small studios don't get screwed over by extreme deadlines, and since they are small, it comes with the benefit of being easy to organise. BUT if they find too much success, it will just turn into another WIT studio situation, so yeah. That's not a fix either unfortunately. It needs to be a small studio that is independent of production committees, but then where the hell will they get money? Really the only fix is investing initially in a ufotable like setup, rack up all the debt and hope you get a breakthrough like demon slayer.

@@-MankoMan yes i agree. Nowadays any profitable series is tied to a larger production committee and extra funding can come from people within that committee like a game developer, toy developer. Originals have it harder against a proven manga or light novel and only large committees like aniplex tend to handle original, often tied with successful creators froma publisher. E.g. aniplex's engage. You dont really find hit series anymore that isnt tied to some publisher. With kadokawa announcing an increase in amount of animes they produce, without a doubt the smaller studios like geek toys will have to make more shows for the publisher.

Want to add that if they are releasing this amount of high looking shows at this alarming rate, many shows are just going to crash and burn at the end. There is a cap on how many people are willing to spend loads of money on your series. This is especially crucial now since streaming has drastically hurt disc sales meaning merchandise sales are more important. What production committees care the most if if the show is a proven franchise. A battle shonen in weekly shonen jump will probably be fine but a lot of other series can get alarming axed. I have seen this in other forms of entertainment like card games and mobile games.

You need more subscribers bro, your one of the few anitubers with clear understanding of how the industry works. Even big name anitubers still attribute Demon Slayer's visual quality (not animation) to budget. This just spreads even more misinformation and honestly becomes really exhausting when talking about the animation of any show with anyone online. And speaking of JJK S2, its still in pre-production stage, I'm not sure if Sung-Hue Park will come back as director (hopefully he does), but if he did we can still expect some serious quality from the second season. Also Hell's Paradise (another Shonen Jump title) is also in production, really hoping it gets at least some love.
@-MankoMan
@-MankoMan 2 жыл бұрын
If JJK is in pre-production that's still not very nice because I think mushoku tensei season 2 is in the same boat and that has a lot of web-gen and veteran animators as well.

@@-MankoMan how exactly? none of the main sakuga animators of mushoku tensei (ryo imamura, q-kawa, hiroyuki takashima and kouta sugawa) have worked on jujutsu kaisen or are you talking about something else and i just understood incorrectly?
@-MankoMan
@-MankoMan 2 жыл бұрын
@@vriendloos3242 I definitely phrased my previous comment incorrectly. The Veterans are mostly unaffected, but the loss is in free-lance web-genners. It will be pretty much impossible to get another episode like mushoku tensei's episode 11, which was a sakuga fest masterpiece with Shingo Yamashita and Yoshimichi Kameda, the former will work on JJK's openings again (hopefully) and the latter will be busy with mob. Also there's Toshiyuki Sato who I don't think will work in Mushoku Tensei again, which will be a loss because I loved his character acting scenes with the demon loli. Another easy way to notice the clash of web-gen animators is to just look at cour 2's PV and compare it to the show. I'm sure that the reason that most of them didn't work in the show is because of the two titans CSM and mob just inhaling all of these animators into the project, and as the pool of freelancers is getting exhausted, shows on a slightly lower tier like Mushoku and JJK will have to share more animators. They still have different core members who will deliver for the important episodes, like cour 2's episode with the dragon god fight, but there's only so much the core members can do. Episodes like mushoku tensei's 11 and jujutsu kaisen's 13 and 17 will become pretty much impossible to make.

@@-MankoMan oooh okay i see that makes sense. I do however think this problem won't be a problem in the long run since the number of animators outside of japan animating in an anime is increasing at a huge rate and will continue to do so. This would mean that it will eventually somewhat balance itself out, or atleast i hope so. I am not knowledged enough to say any exact details about how long it will take or if i am certain this will actually happen but i think it would make sense if this happens
@-MankoMan
@-MankoMan 2 жыл бұрын
@@vriendloos3242 Yes, the number of animators will keep increasing. Number of projects will also keep increasing. But the competition to book veteran animators, that's what this video is about. Can't just give the role of animation director to a newbie web gen animator, and handling hundreds of new animators by literally sending them a dm on twitter, then organising work for them...seems like a bit too much. The industry needs a proper system to prepare for the rapid influx of animators. New branches like Sunghoo Park making a new studio is a good sign, but only time will tell whether these branches simply follow the footsteps of cloverworks and wit or actually try to be like ufotable and kyoani.

I have a feeling Nakamura won’t work on Mob or at least have a large role. I expect him to work on a large cut for MHA for its war arc. However if there’s only a single big cut from him he can very well do Mob too.
@-MankoMan
@-MankoMan 2 жыл бұрын
In MHA Yutapon usually does one scene for the movie and 2-4 scenes for the show, but last season he only did one scene. Mob was definitely already in production back then, which could mean Nakamura was working on it at the time. Of course this theory could be wrong and bones might announce another non canon mha movie in which Yutapon will work. That would be disappointing.

I feel like since 2020, the animation quality, and overall quality, of shows has significantly increased. Even though I may/has come at the cost of the animators, I really hope the industry starts to change its ways so that every party is happy in the end.
@-MankoMan
@-MankoMan 2 жыл бұрын
The frequency increase is mainly because of external producers who have no understanding of how the industry works. They see that its profitable, and hence want a piece of its success. Since the industry is just one big family of freelancers organised by studio producers, these external producers disrupt the very thin line of balance maintained in the industry which is why so many shows are switching studios and sometimes crashing entirely.

I still don't get why some studios still don't have a in house core staff member. For business perspective, if you have a great in house core staff member, you can raise your studio value. Just look at KyoAni & Ufotable. Why they don't learn from them? I still don't get it. I'm guessing.. Maybe, some studios don't have any business model for their studios. They just made an anime, regularly.. So weird if it is.. I'm curious, how their financial statement? Are they got some lost on their projects? Because they definitely spend too much on core staff. It's more cheap if they hire a good core staff for sake of their business..

@@darshilparmar7016 I'm ok with freelance. And.. actually, if you give Chris Evan as an example, it's off point on my argument. Chris Evan is an actor. He can get a project from talent agent. It's same thing as a seiyuu industry. If you wanna comparing with Hollywood film industry, compare it with editor, cameraman, or CG artist. But.. if you say it's not cheaper, then upscale the business. So they can get more reasonable project with reasonable payment. We have an example. Why they don't learn from that? This is the problem on anime business. They don't scale up their business. My argue still same. Raise them (in this case are studios) value. Made some portfolio with some solid staff. It's more cheaper than freelancing great person in each project. It's too much cost on variable cost.
