After my insomnia struggle starting in January of this year, to then finding your channel and bedtyme app a few months later, I’m finally on the other side of the struggle. All of the education has finally just clicked into place and while I still sometimes experience hyper arousal at bed time, it doesn’t stick around for long. Thanks Daniel for getting me out of such a lonely and dark time! 😊

A key question for me is: What am I resisting in this moment? Once I can identify it (usually an unpleasant feeling or emotion), I can willingly choose to give up the resistance knowing full well (from experience) that “what you resist persists”. Therefore “resistance is futile”, as the saying goes. 😊 And it is counterproductive!

Hi Daniel I understand part of your teaching is to get up around the same time every day and not to go to bed until you are sleepy. I have had insomnia for about a year and do not feel sleepy at night but more awake possibly from hyperarousal. My question is when to go to bed if you don't get sleep?. Also another question is I rent a room in a house and have a bed and a chair and desk and get stiff or tired of sitting in the chair so like to lay in bed and sometimes like to lay in bed and read or watch a film on my phone. My question is whether by laying in bed reading if it is considered going to bed? I do appreciate your videos.

Hey, Daniel I just bought your book and cant wait to read it when it i arrives. I have a question that i hope maybe you can help me with. My insomnia manifests as waking up, lets say around 2, and not being able to fall asleep again. Now that this has started happening it seems that the first thing that pops into me head when i wake up is, "I wonder if I will be able to fall asleep again." And these thoughts kinda keep me awake. Have you dealt with people with a similar issue?

Will I get to sleep again? After 30 years of insomnia I have this as my #1 question when I wake/don't sleep. Sometimes I sleep another hour (many nights I sleep only 2 hours and I'm still alive, granted it is unpleasant). Sometimes I get tiny bits of sleep, and some nights I get 4,5,6 hours. It helps me to see that when I can let go, and accept whatever comes, I have a bit less suffering. A daily practice for me.

Hi Daniel, I'm a passed client of yours. I was with you for about 6months. I was mostly talking with coach Michelle. I have come a long way from when I first joined but I still find I struggle with sleep when I have something important on the next day. It can be big or small. I play in a sports team every week and I find the night before I play I will not sleep. Do you have any videos on this topic. It can be anything that triggers me, mostly when I deem it important.

i have same problem. :D I have never experienced falling asleep when I had something important planned for the next day! never ever 😅 but i have to admit, that in my past i always had thoughts like:" why dont you fall asleep..i hate you..fall asleep..you have to sleep...look only 5 hours left to sleep, 4 hours..1 hour...panic..a very big drama played out in my head about how terrible my next day was going to be.." so i have still a long way to go to accept the fear..to accept the fact that i might not fall asleep and it is ok to be angry about that. i try to learn the following: observing my unpleasant feelings at night.my brain has been playing same file for so many years.and i will say from now on: here we go, start playing the cassette, i already know all the thoughts you will throw at me...something new? i already know all my emotions about it and i know i'm not going to fall asleep because of it...but it is OK! i will be fine! ...slowly i understand what it means "no matter of the outcome". but it so difficult to implement a new approach in your brain, when you have been walking the same pass day after day.

@@thesleepcoachschool8192 Thank you Daniel, The video was very helpful. Has the final hurdle been discussed at all in a success story, it would be great to hear how someone got through this. This truly does feel like it's my last hurdle although it can tend to lead to multiple nights of disrupted sleep after the initial worry of the event. Hopefully I can be a success story soon and do a video on how I got through this annoying period.

Hi Daniel, I have a question about an email you sent recently about a lady called Tanya who, when she had recovered from her sleep issues asked her kids what it was like growing up with a mom who was barely keeping it together. I know this was intended to help and probably helped lot of people but if has really made me feel stressed since I read it on Friday. Your emails are usually quite reassuring/helpful for me so I read them all but this one has stressed me out and it’s been going on for days now. I’m wondering if you could help me to look at it differently. I’m mum of 3 small kids and one of my main worries I have with my sleep issues is that I won’t be able to be good mum to them. When I read the below email and heard about Tanya asking her kids what was it like having mother who barely was keeping it together while they were growing up, has really triggered me as I’m so scared I’ll be having the same conversation with my own kids in a few years I’m trying so hard to not fear wakefulness but this thought has really really scared me Daniel. I’d be so grateful for some advice. Thank you

Hi Sally, Thanks so much for asking ask and I’m glad that you’ve found the emails helpful. With this said, sorry of course a recent one brought up some scary thoughts. You know, what so often helps is to look at what’s bothering us Sally. And often it’s just like what you shared here, a hypothetical situation in the future… but, that’s not happening now. So what’s bothering us now? The warnings about a hypothetical situation. By warnings I mean worry thoughts and fear, which are meant to keep us safe from potential danger. The reason this can help to see is that we get to the root of our struggles: what we are trying to get away from isn’t actually a future potential situation, but the feelings we have now. We are scared of feeling scared. Which can help so much because we see we don’t need to do anything to change the past or attempt to alter the future… but rather it’s about a willingness to feel what we feel now. When we no longer try to escape how we feel, then our mind understands that fear is not dangerous, it’s safe. It’s perfectly safe to be warned about something. And when we no longer are scared of feeling scared… then things get easier and easier for us.

When you say get the courage to feel the fear, what do you mean by that? Say you’re in bed and you have the anxiety and feel the fear, to get the courage to feel it does that mean you just lay there with it and accept it, and start being kind to yourself? Because you said trying to do something to escape it such as watching a KZfaq video or tv is only showing the brain that fear is something to be scared of. Is this correct?

I am confused too . However , what I did was rather than lay there and wait for it to pass , I sort of get out of bed and pace with the anxiety and fear . It did not go away and have been around for a few whole days so I continue to either go for walks or pace with it but that was the best I could do for now . 😅

hey, if its possible that one person brings me a lot of anxiety and it makes my insomnia worse? if i met that person i usually never sleep( it can be 5 minutes per day) for example i slept 3 days very well, i met that person, he made me nervous and i havent sleep for 2 days now, should i avoid this person? is very rarely when i sleep if i see this person.. how is possible
@thesleepcoachschool8192
@thesleepcoachschool8192 7 ай бұрын
Hi, it’s very possible that how we think about a certain person creates anxiety within us that leads to choppy sleep - we call this sleep disruption. But this is different from insomnia which we see as an ongoing struggle from a fear of being awake.. learning about sleep disruption vs insomnia can really help

Sometimes i have this scary thought that im afraid of not waking up again..... How can you tackle this fear?
@thesleepcoachschool8192
@thesleepcoachschool8192 7 ай бұрын
Hi Magnus, I know this may not be exactly the scary thought you describe, but a very similar situation is somniphobia. This is when we become scared of sleeping or the process of falling asleep. Which in a way is understandable because we don’t have control when we are asleep…. And we don’t have control of waking up. So that can also scare us. If you search for Talking insomnia Kreuza and Talking insomnia Marina you’ll find two powerful stories that I think can help. Basically it’s about seeing that all our fears can be met the same way, by not trying to conquer, defeat or tackle… but understanding why we were scared and a willingness to experience fear when it happens… this way we teach ourselves that we don’t have to be afraid to feel afraid, and that leads where we want to be
