The Arctic Circle by BMW R1200GS - Episode 8 - The Atlantic way, Alesund and on to the mighty Trollstigen! It's time for another TMF tour, this time my most adventurous to date! In this series I hook up with Motorrad Tours to ride my BMW R1200GS to the arctic circle via the brilliant motorcycling roads of Norway - in this episode I ride the Atlantic Way with it's bridges and stunning vistas, explore the beautiful town of Alesund and make my way to the mighty Trollstigen! I never really understood why people got all bent out of shape over being patriotic and loving your country. Every place on earth has its issues but I believe if we could all come together as one voice then many problems could be solved.

I was here last month, drove from the UK and managed to get inside the artic circle with my young family! We did 4700 miles in 14 days and visited 9 countries in our 2001 discovery towing my x military 1965 trailer with our roof tent mounted on top. We bumped into a English guy riding his BMW bike and apparently he was with a large group, when I retire I might do it all again on a nice bike but with more time on my hands! Norway is a beautiful country for sure.

We camped next to the cafe'/tavern/gift shop in Chicken, AK. with our 7 small tents along the bear trail. Listened to the diesel generator running all night to keep the freezer and coolers powered up. We were urged to retain the paper used when using the 3-hole outhouse, as she used it to start her oven every morning. Great cinnamon rolls she made.

Just revisited your Motorrad tour of Norway, we did the cruise from Bergen on a cruise ship come ferry, visited all the ports and recognised the places and bridges, this was March 2019, completely different as snow everywhere, no biking , snowmobile was more appropriate transport, super to see it again.🍻

Enjoying this series SOOO much while I'm not working during the summer holidays 2021 here in Australia. I took the Grandkids for a bit of a ride yesterday and was 30 degrees at 8.30 in the morning here in SE Queensland, Australia, so heat is something I live with. I'm waitng to see how your experience on the Troll was... mine was... will comment on the appropriate video... but the Strawberry! Yes there are a lot of strawberry filds around there and when i 've gone throu (like 2 weeks before you...) they were picking them up... the smell was amazing!

TheMissendenFlyer Yes, and you know why that is? It's because Westminster has chosen a path of world domination rather than sorting out the UK with the last 50 years oil revenue. Argentina, Kuwait, Iraq, Iraq, Afghanistan, Libya, Syria? That's where the money went. Sorry, I don't expect you to point this stuff out to people in your vlogs but people's apparent surprise that some countries seem to do things better than the UK needs to be addressed by someone. Great videos mate. I've loved every one.

Gordon Bain I agree with you on the ME stuff, but was referring only to the landscape magnitude. My expectations were higher, sooner on TMFs journey. That speaks well of Scotland's splendour, I've toured there also (including a whip around IoSky) and have enjoyed the relative comparisons of TMFs Norway tour. All good in my book.

In addition to being generally a good day, the fridays gotten even better with the ritual of watching your videos from you visit in my country. Its funny when you talk about being far north and all. Living in Northern Norway the perspective is that being here is the normal, the rest of Norway and Europe is just so far away. The norwegian half-way marker for the E6 is actually in Fauske, one hour drive north of the arctic circle, so there is a lot of road further north. I hope you'll reconsider and one day do all of Norway.

The alcohol smell in the tunnel at 26:40 is the front window washer fluid we use in Norway and contains ethanol (for it not to freeze during winter time) 😄😅 So one of the cars you met obviously had just cleaned it's window exiting the tunnel..

Hiya again TMF, I haven't commented here for probably about 12mths. Been offshore. I noticed The World docked where you were. It's pulled in to Dartmouth where I used to live. I believe the cabins are used like villas with an ever changing view, i.e. owners fly out to the boat wherever she may be on the globe. I dare say some owners stay aboard for the duration too. Good to see you in the Norwegian fleshpot that is Dirty Nellys/Kellys! You clearly had a good ole time in the land of the vikings. Ride safe sir, and congrats with the continued success and growth of your channel.

In about 8:20 you see the industrial base called "Vestbase" where the supply to most of the offshore oil installations in middle of Norway goes out by supply wessels. I work there in a workshop. Lovely place :-) Many of my sunday rides goes along the roads you have been to.

Hi TMF, Just finished catching up with the videos that you’d posted while I was away (Ruby wedding trip to Vancouver and the Yukon). A few mixed comments, thoroughly share your views on admission fees to shows, be like being charged to enter a high street shop! On the new BMW’s variable cams, I used to love the power surge on Honda VFR 800 vtec but I guess that was a leftover from 2 stroke power band days. You mentioned in one video about a shortage of good biking roads in the south, my local favourites are the couple of roads across the Berkshire downs, Wantage to Newbury and Lambourn, usually quiet and great fun. One last thing, I collected my new Bonneville the day before we went away and I’m now I’m back and hoping this weather will hold so that I can get it run in and serviced before they start salting the roads. when i was in Turkey flew their flag on radio aerial of my motor home, that went well with the army

Really enjoying watching this trip.. 16.03 the bridge looks like a ramp !! Oh and I had to check the stern of that boat several times at 22.50... trying to see what it was named *cough cough
