They are so into the music, heart and soul, Ronnie the wild man, Rick on sidelines observing everything and singing harmony when needed, and Robbie and his guitar playing, just too cool. What a pleasure to watch.

RIP Robbie Robertson he passed away last night at 80

#The Last Waltz was directed and filmed by Martin Scorsese in San Francisco during Thanksgiving in 1976. It was to mark the end for Robbie Robertson (lead guitar, songwriter, vocals), Levon Helm (drummer, vocals, mandolin, guitar), Rick Danko (bassist, violin, vocals), Garth Hudson (organ, saxophone, accordion) and Richard Manuel (piano, vocals, drums) known together as #The Band. All were Canadian except for Levon, who was American. Ronnie 'The Hawk' Hawkins was the first artist the guys played with as a backup band if I recall. They also played with Bob Dylan. They called themselves 'Levon and the Hawks' early on and one other name used/tried was 'The Crackers' .. however, whenever Dylan or whoever would speak about them, they were always referred to as 'the band'. So that is how that 'name' became to be. In his autobiography, Helm blamed Robbie Robertson for the bands breakup saying that 'The Last Waltz' was 'primarily [Robbie's] project' and 'forced' the breakup on the group. Except for Robbie, the other members did regroup in 1983 and toured a bit. Because their popularity had diminished tho, they were only able to fill theaters and nightclubs. Occasionally they would be billed as openers for Crosby, Stills & Nash or the Grateful Dead. They also did some recording of their own and with other artists. Suffering from alcoholism and drug addiction, Richard Manuel became clean and sober in 1978 but began drinking and using again in 1984. After a performance in Florida on March 4, 1986 .. Richard Manuel hanged himself in his hotel room. He was 42. On December 10, 1999 .. Rick Danko died in his sleep at the age of 55. After Ricks death, 'The Band' officially disbanded. In 1998, Helm was diagnosed with throat cancer, unable to sing for several years but eventually regained his voice. On April 17, 2012 .. Levon's helpers announced that he was in the "final stages of cancer" and died two days later. To date, Robbie Robertson and Garth Hudson are the only two surviving members. When you can Skeez ... You should make the time some night and watch #The Last Waltz in its entirety. It is in the Top Ten .. imo Top 5 .. best rock films ever made. I quit counting after watching it myself for the 20th time ... 😏
