@@sirandrelefaedelinoge Sure there was. A Western Electric 22C was used a lot. Beginning in the 30s. An RCS BC-5 was another one. They could be used in a booth or planted on a console in the audience.

Surfing in Cornwall, England....and watching the drag racing at Santa Pod...The Beach Boys stuff loud over the 'PA"!! Playing their music in the car while driving home...Brian Wilson and the guys were fans of The Four Freshmen during the late 50's and into the sixties...check them out. The Four Freshmen had their own version of Surfer Girl!!! I'm so pleased Abbie that you are a "YOUNG FAN" of the BB's...my daughter is SIXTIE TWO now...and I am EIGHTY FIVE and still kickin'!. I turn 70 in 9 days, and I still remember clearly, the first time I saw the Beach Boys on stage as the headliners that day. The space in the concert hall at the pier' end appeared extremely full and our group of 16 to 18 ye a rs

Stee pier included the "Box Tops" as the opening act ( also quite popular in the 1969 era) that wonderfull summers' day. The Steel Pier is also known for " the Diving Horse", an act the animal rights folks would surely be disapproving of today.

I saw no reason to choose between the Beatles and the Beach boys, crank the radio up when either came on…

I was 15 in 1964 and living in northern England. Great music was released every day but the Beach Boys (and for me J&D) were something special.

Mike Love was the weakest link in their sound.

Brian only had to sing during the chorus and the outro. Paul McCartney had to sing songs like All My Loving from beginning to the end, while playing far more incredible basslines.

The Beach Boys in the sixties always remind me of the wonderful holidays I had as a child with my Mum and Dad to a place called Boscombe near Bournemouth in Dorset.... Its certain things that stick in people's minds that mean the most when we were children.... Without it sounding like I'm a miserable guy but, I wouldn't want to be a child in this day and age, it's bad enough being an adult...

@@poopingoode417 I can say two things for sure: 1) The old farts waxing nostalgic about the sixties are forgetting about all the crap that went down in that era. It was not all rosy like they portray. And the music was mostly crap back then. There was some superb music then, of course. 2) Fifty years from now, the old farts will be waxing nostalgic about the times when they were 14 to 24 years old, that is the 2010s or 2020s. They will make it sound like some kind of halcyon paradise. They will not consider all the crap that's been going on in these days. Most of the music is crap these days, although there is plenty of great music being made in this era, too.

Carl, born December 21st, 1946, was 15 when they cut "Surfin' Safari" and "409" on April 19th, 1962 (dates from Wikipedia). Those solos are cleanly executed, well thought out, tasty and professional. He was one of those rare players who had it early.

David Marks was Carl's age and held his own but had left the band by then when Al Jardine came back.

But at 78..he does look to be in the best physical shape.. While the Wilson boys were doin acid and all kinds of different substances.. Mike Love never got into drugs or excessive drinking... He was into transcendental meditation....which is a great thing...but all said and done... Mike Love is a prick 😆😆

The Indianapolis 500 used to be broadcast in a similar way to movie theaters in the mid'-60s. I seem to remember the description said "Closed Circuit TV".

The very limited band width back then was able to be transmitted over dedicated phone lines.

It wasn't live. Dick Clark required that everything be lip-synched, even if the bands wanted to play live.
