The thing that is so super-cool about this is they have that whole high school Battle of the Bands vibe going on. They run out, plug in, and play around with the knobs on the amps. It's stone cold real. No stage mixer. It's just out there. The early Beatles and Rolling Stones were like this. Plug 'n Play!

My dad and I would listen to The Beach Boys with the car windows all the way down on the motorway to the beach in the UK when I was a kid. Recently he told me that this exact song reminds him of me and I can't help but be proud of my childhood and all of the memories we have because of this band. I remember how I wrote about The Beach Boys being my favourite band in a diary when I was super young and my auntie judging me for it, but I still listen to them to this day. Thank you for all of the memories x Edit: I am only 20 years old now but this band shaped my childhood. Shoutout to my dad for being the best and bringing me up on his old music

Surfing in Cornwall, England....and watching the drag racing at Santa Pod...The Beach Boys stuff loud over the 'PA"!! Playing their music in the car while driving home...Brian Wilson and the guys were fans of The Four Freshmen during the late 50's and into the sixties...check them out. The Four Freshmen had their own version of Surfer Girl!!! I'm so pleased Abbie that you are a "YOUNG FAN" of the BB's...my daughter is SIXTIE TWO now...and I am EIGHTY FIVE and still kickin'!. This was shortly after the Beatles first came to the US and they had quite a rivalry. I was in the Beatles camp, but still enjoyed the Beach Boys sound, especially since I was (am) a surfer. Brian had such an incredible voice which really made their sound. I appreciate it more now than I did then.

Stee pier included the "Box Tops" as the opening act ( also quite popular in the 1969 era) that wonderfull summers' day. The Steel Pier is also known for " the Diving Horse", an act the animal rights folks would surely be disapproving of today.

The Beach Boys in the sixties always remind me of the wonderful holidays I had as a child with my Mum and Dad to a place called Boscombe near Bournemouth in Dorset.... Its certain things that stick in people's minds that mean the most when we were children.... Without it sounding like I'm a miserable guy but, I wouldn't want to be a child in this day and age, it's bad enough being an adult...

@@poopingoode417 I can say two things for sure: 1) The old farts waxing nostalgic about the sixties are forgetting about all the crap that went down in that era. It was not all rosy like they portray. And the music was mostly crap back then. There was some superb music then, of course. 2) Fifty years from now, the old farts will be waxing nostalgic about the times when they were 14 to 24 years old, that is the 2010s or 2020s. They will make it sound like some kind of halcyon paradise. They will not consider all the crap that's been going on in these days. Most of the music is crap these days, although there is plenty of great music being made in this era, too.

Carl, born December 21st, 1946, was 15 when they cut "Surfin' Safari" and "409" on April 19th, 1962 (dates from Wikipedia). Those solos are cleanly executed, well thought out, tasty and professional. He was one of those rare players who had it early.

This was part of a live broadcast that had several big name groups and singers. It was projected on a large screen in dark dance halls all over the country in black and white. The projected image looked really bad by the time it came off the phone line but just the thought that we were watching something live with thousands of people around the country was incredible for 1964. I saw it at Terrace Ballroom in Salt Lake City.

@@davidwesson9277 Lucky you, I would have liked to go to Laurel Cannon were it was all happing music wise, also to drive along Ventura Highway and on to the Pacific Highway...wearing my hippy clothes, beads, bracelets, hats, etc...loved the southern california sound...but I live in the UK...I only got there in my dreams...🇬🇧✌️❤

I grew up right outside of San Diego, and yes, that's what our lives were like! We lived 10 miles from the beach!
