The "Dependable Goof" has always been one of my favorite character archetypes so naturally I gravitated more towards Okuyasu.

Okuyasu is one of my favorite characters from the whole Jojo series. He is one of the More lighthearted characters we see in the series which we don't get to see very often. He is funny and the fact that his stands ability is so absurdly broken is what makes him one of the best Jojo characters

DIavolo doesn't go into a hidden space, he just edits out continuity surrounding him. Think about how a movie is recorded on film and the editor chopping out a portion of a scene but the actor moved in that period of time so it's a bit jarring. His ability is probably a reference to how king crimson used reel to reel magnetic tape over future innovations in sound technology well past standard adoptions of new recording and mastering technologies, they didn't use digital or anything more modern than old reel to reel Magnetic tape(1940s for the tape) until about 2000 when they first adopted digital recording/mastering systems. The old magnetic tape was edited the same ways as film, it was cut and re-attached or segments were cut and copied/re-recorded onto a new magnetic tape. King crimson is known for stitching together seamless franken albums of live shows and studio recordings into the same song(not because a portion is bad but because they improvise live and sometimes they add portions to live songs from the studio, like a new bridge or vice versa) and it always sounds like studio quality except for like one early live album that taught them to commit wholly to HQ live show recording because you can't get those performances back. This seamless editing makes sense as an inspiration for the stand King Crimson, Epitaph being a precognition ability even makes sense considering the foresight they had with this recording medium and application but also because the occasional accusation by music critics of precognition during live jam sessions with improvisations has come up a number of times over the decades. "Peoria" is a track from the first live album that caused all of the above and it's a 7 minute improvisation never played before or again by the band, look that track up, that this was never rehearsed is mind blowing until you learn that a solid 20% of their music was never rehearsed in the version we have and that about 90% of the stuff that came after the late 70s was developed in live jam sessions recorded in multiple home studios, and in every iteration of the band the lyrics and musical tone are more coherent than anything ever releases by Yes, and by and large more coherent than almost any other prog band. /effort post

Okuyasu is straight up tied for my favorite character in the series. He's so earnest about everything (probably cause he's not smart enough to lie,) and he's a grade-a good boi. His growth throughout the part really struck a chord with me, that and him doing stupid teenage stuff with Josuke.

"The stand itself is really slow." No. It's not. In the episode where we first see Yukako become obsessed with Koichi, she plants Love Deluxe in a girl's hair in order to control her and set her hair on fire. Out of nowhere Okuyasu appears and does around 20 swipes in one second. They were only slightly smaller than a full swipe, and erased the fire perfectly, without any damage to the girl's head.

I’ve always figured that Okuyasu’s stand came from his initial instinct to follow what his brother told him. Keicho’s one desire was to kill what his father turned into, so Okuyasu gained a stand that could erase things.

@@_valor my personal theory is that keicho simply told him "no, it won't work" and okuyasu didn't think further on the subject, trusting his brother. keicho wouldn't have wanted okuyasu to have to live with the shame of ending his father's life.

I'm totally of the belief that Okuyasu isn't actually stupid; he's just got extreme anxiety. He was told for several years by his brother that he was a failure and a moron. If someone is told those things for an extended period of time - especially by someone they care about and look up to - they're more likely to believe it. That's why he follows Keicho blindly, as he does not believe in his own levels of intelligence nor his ability to make his own decisions. So when the time comes to make decisions, he panics and freezes up. It's not stupidity - it's analysis paralysis, after years of having everyone doubt his capabilities (including himself). There's so many other scenes that show Okuyasu's hidden depths (the Tonio's episode, his money management skills, his empathy and willingness to forgive his family), and I feel like sometimes those get skipped in the fandom in favour of "lol Okuyasu dumb". That's just my opinion, though. This video is pretty great and I'm glad someone else loves Okuyasu as much as I do haha
