Doppio being the original personality makes perfect sense when you consider that Doppio is basically the worst choice imaginable for a person that could be used to hide from others. He makes ringing noises, assaults people for imaginary reasons (the cab driver and the photo) or to use their objects as phones (the girl with the ice cream), and in general seems to draw attention to himself wherever he goes. He's loyal to Diavolo but is also capable of forgetting his orders or disregarding them entirely such as when he encountered Risotto Nero. The ideal secondary personality for Diavolo would be someone like Kira that would be as equally obsessed with anonymity as he is. At the same time, Diavolo comes off as the type of person that Doppio would create if given the chance. Diavolo is strong, focused, in control, and absolutely determined to eliminate family members and the past so that the type of situation that happened when he met his mother never happens again.

Finding this out, only makes Doppio's death stronger.

I always thought that Diavolo was actually King Crimson. There are stands in JoJo that have their own personalities, usually people with less stable mental states, like Mista. The interesting thing is that Trish is one of those people with a talking stand, and she's obviously Doppio's daughter, which could be drawing a parallel between the two. Perhaps when Doppio had a mental breakdown, he unlocked his stand, but since he is extremely unstable the stand had a potent personality that became part of Doppio's mental make up. King Crimson is simply a stand with a personality so independent he became a person. We've seen a stand that took over people's bodies before: Anubis. Anubis also had a personality and could control people like Diavolo. In some drawings in the manga(including one that is featured in the video several times), we see that Doppio's face has a King Crimson looking eye. Since Doppio is transforming and he can only transform into his other personality: Diavolo, it suggests that Diavolo and King Crimson are one in the same. It also explains why the secondary personality is in charge of the stand: he is the stand. And yes, he has to be in charge of the stand, since King Crimson came with Diavolo.

Exactly, in the anime they kinda showed the baby boss having his eyes shift from red to normal, as if he was possessed. My theory is that Diavolo was the entity that influenced doppios mom to become pregnant, then latched onto him straight from birth. He was actually with him his entire life, but acted rarely until he met his mother. The soul switching ability he has when he changes bodies between buccelati-doppio to mista-trish seems to imply that he might be a sort of soul parasyte. Another interesting fact is that he latched onto Trish's soul, almost as if he can only do it to a relative, maybe pointing to the fact that doppios father might have been diavolo before him.

I always thought that Diavolo and Doppio were a result of a vanishing/parasitic twin combo (which explains the pregnancy, two souls in "one" body as well as the design of King Crimson's faces). Bonus - the idea was explored in Steven King's "The Dark Half", who also named one of the major recurring villains (Crimson King) in his works after King Crimson the band's first album.

Often split personalities are created to protect the original. This would work with how Diavolo behaves towards Doppio.

The split personality disorder is sometimes risen as a coping mechanism.... It is really unlikely to intentionally create an identity like vinegar..... Diablo on the other hand is a shell formed by vinegar subconscious to protect him that is what makes it obvious that diavlo is the created personality that was created but with time took over vinegar

But the bust Moody Blues creates has Diavolo's eyes (although I guess you could argue that Doppio predominantly used the Diavolo personality when dating Donatella Una; hence, why Trish is a blood relative of Diavolo but NOT Doppio). Nonetheless, you've persuaded me of the strong likelihood that Doppio is the Boss' original personality. Of course, alternatively, the original Diavolo/Doppio person could've just been a combination of the two people. The mystery of it all is what makes Diavolo so interesting; it's just a shame that we seldom saw Diavolo and how he actually acted and whatnot didn't live up to the hype.

I always tought it was obvious because that's how dissociation works, a person creates a new personality to cope with situations and most of the times the split personality is a "better" person in their eyes (most of the times it's just a "happier" person, them being all violent it's a myth, but it's true that sometimes they get avenger personalities to defend from a abusers). For funsies, you might consider looking into the concept of the "transgenerational phantom" and "identification within the crypt" from Nicholas Abraham and Maria Torok's psychoanalytic theory. Doppio's split-ego and the existence of his secret unknown father & mostly absent mother makes me think that it could apply quite well. By their account, the split would result from the existence of a secret (his parentage) that inscribes itself in his psyche, causes him to unwittingly and tacitly imitate the figure of his unknown father (perhaps), and persists within Doppio's soul as a phantom object (Diavolo) whose presence drastically impacts the behavior of the subject who harbors the phantom love-object. Doppio's phone-calls to Diavolo would actually fit the kind of "unceasing subversive action...from within the 'crypt'" It's literally a theory of unsuccessful mourning (because of a secret, shame, or incomplete knowledge of one's own relation to the lost love-object) that results in preservative melancholia--a literal splitting of the ego for the sake of "preserving" a personal replica of the lost person. For other popular examples of transgenerational haunting in media, think of "Mr. Robot", or Crazy Eyes (who harbors a 'phantom'-object of her mother) from "Orange is the New Black" as prime examples of this.

Hopefully people see this a year after the video releases. My wellness teacher was talking about split personality disorder, and he said that people make them as a defense mechanism for extreme evil acts. If I killed my mother, but I am good I would never do that, but Bob he is messed up he would do that(Bob is the personality I in this situation would pin the blame to) this is something the brain does in order to function or it would basically would kill it self from extreme anxiety, depression, and anger.

i actually dont think neither doppio nor diavolo are the original personality. I actually think that whoever soildo naso was is the original personality. It is explicitly stated that solido naso is a fake name but i believe that whoever that is is the complete or original person. Firstly, we see traits similar to that of both shown personalities in solido. In terms of doppio, his clumsiness and especially the genuine nervousness when he speaks to donatella and asks her on a date. he acts like a perfectly normal teenage boy: clumsy, kind-hearted, interested in a girl. however, we see his dark side when he does things like bury his own mother under the floorboards and sew her mouth shut or burn the village down. this is clearly highly antisocial and frankly evil behaviour. i think though that this behaviour only shows itself after he reunites with his mother, which leads me to think that maybe diavolo had already begun to develop as his own person. I think that solido's clumsy, kind and compassionate nature formed vinegar doppio and his sadistic, evil behaviour formed diavolo. maybe solido still exists and is a suppressed personality as maybe he would have mercy for trish as, due to his memories of donatella, would know she was his daughter and maybe want to look after her- thus diavolo keeps him locked up to prevent him intefering with trish's execution? maybe doppio is manifested normally as he is utterly unaware of trish and donatella. we know this for certain as even when presented with an image of donatella, he doesnt recognise her at all, hell he doesnt show any sign he knows hes from sardinia. therefore, doppio cannot be the original personality, or certainly not the one around at the time of trish's conception, because surely he would recognise a woman he knew that well from a photo. anyway thats only my theory and there are definitely factors that clash with this, but for the most part, i think it works. :)

Entertaining this idea, maybe that's why Diavolo is often depicted as talking through King Crimson. Since stands are the manifestations of souls, the Diavolo personality could be said to almost be one in the same as the stand King Crimson. I guess in that light, he's almost like Cheap Trick, using Doppio as a host. Except unlike Cheap Trick, there are benefits to effectively being possessed by King Crimson.

I think it’s very likely that Doppio May have been the original persona. A child with Diavolo’s usual behavior and shattered pupil design would’ve stood out a lot. Additionally, Diavolo seems to be perpetually emotional with schizophrenic paranoia, unnatural aggressive mood swings, delusional beliefs of superiority, and a monstrous lack of empathy. He also lacks a character depth that the other main villains possess outside of their evil, being totally oriented towards his goals of isolation/being a supreme ruler with no notable quirks outside of his extremely evil traits. Even Dio has moments of decency and clarity outside of being an over the top evil jerk. Also, the main villains were people with semi-normal looks outside of their fabulous outfits. The ones with long hair are usually the ones that are clearly unnatural with Kars being a literal inhuman monster with horns and the ability to transform into anything and Funny Valentine being able to replace himself with alternate versions of himself with one notably was shorter and fat. This makes me think Diavolo is Doppio’s “Diavolo/Devil” personality to deal with matter that are too dark to deal with. It also explains what Diablo is- he’s an idealized version of himself with all the evil poured in. Diavolo doesn’t seem to the type that can carefully construct a complete opposite of himself, but Doppio created this very flawed alter ego to deal with the majority of his mafia criteria and when something is too dangerous. But the alter ego took over the main controls of the body, but lacked the necessary qualities to be human. Therefore, he’s actually a one dimensional personality made flesh. And it originates from the time when Doppio’s embryo merged with what would’ve become Diavolo. And the subconscious aspect of the merged part caused Diavolo to be created in Doppio’s conscious.

I felt that doppio was the original because of his backstory. You see someone way more similar to doppio in the flashback. His adoptive father flat out describes doppio, clumsy and kind, which is doppio. But he gets really angry really quick when it comes to diavolo's identity. Doppio is subconsciously protecting his secret instead of diavolo's.
