Every year thousands of people travel to Nepal and India to visit the holy sites associated with the Buddha's life. While some people visit these places merely for their historical significance, many devotees and spiritual seekers go there to grow, renew and strengthen their connection with the Buddha and his teachings. In this video I explain one of the main reasons why pilgrims make this journey and what are some of the benefits of going on a Buddhist pilgrimage.

Hi Mindah,I have just returned from holiday to Sri Lanka we did all the holiday sites etc and it wasn't pilgrimage holiday and we did visit Kandy like all the holiday makers but on my return I've not been able get Buddha out of my head.So you are correct when you say visiting these places does something inside which cannot be explained.

Thanks for the videos. Hat off for the knowledge and your willingness to share with the world about the teachings of Buddha. I read a lot of books about Buddha that he taught only the truths and he didn't want his followers to believe blindly even to Buddha himself. But there were miracles in the teachings such as : when he was sitting as a young prince in the shade meditating in a hot day the shade never moved away from him. And when he wanted to cross the swelling river during the rainy season he projected himself to the other side miraculously. Then when he was about to reach enlightenment the Mara god tried to frighten him with all sort of weapons. Buddha put his right hand to the ground and the ground shook violently until the Mara god himself frightened and disappeared. Why were there miracles ? How could that be the truth? What do you think it was? Can you give me some thoughts about these if you don't mind please. thank you so much, kc.

And is it true that every Buddhist tries at least 4 times to go to each of the major places indicated by Lord Buddha, namely Lumbini, Bodhgaya, Sarnath and Kusinara?

i'm jewish. in 2005 i went to israel on a pilgrimage to jerusalem and it was wonderful. a couple years ago i bought tich naht hans book the heart of the buddhas teaching because i was feeling really low and in a dark place and my therapist recommended i look into buddhism because it talks about suffering and dukkah. i love it i consider myself a jew and a buddhist but i only have been a buddhist for a little while. my problem is that there arent any buddhist temples or centers here in akron ohio so all my buddhist path is from books and the internet. your videos are helping me learn too. i know from going to jerusalem that a buddhist pilgrimage will be something that ill remember for the rest of my life.

I just finally did my pilgrimage. Did it with a Thai travel agency all Thai's and me. The bhikkhu monk teacher spoke no English but I was glad he was there to lead the chants and meditations. It was nice as we had so many taking care of us a van-bus driver and his windshield wiper guy. A Hindu man who took care of our needs and got our Nepal visas done quickly. We had Thai temple stops on the way for bathroom breaks and they gave instant coffee, teas and free meals sometimes in the hopes of donations. The only negative was if I was on my own I would have wandered over and joined other groups.. as have practiced when younger many kinds of Buddhism and seeing other types of Buddhism and kept separated from them seemed wrong. In fact our monk-teacher had a micro-phone and little speaker and at Eagle point there was a group of Vietnamese chanting and he had us sit behind them and turned on his speaker and started our chants, the Vietnamese lay followers were angry at us.
