Great video Chris, we brought a ton of high quality fluval plants a year or so later they were mostly all in a shocking state, meant to-do a video on how they faired over the year but not sure where the footage is haha! So happy we moved to live plants!

That would make a great video. Some of these plants I spent a good buck on... And for it to fall apart and cause issues with my filters was alarming and very disappointing

I'd like to do live plants but I can't even put the roots of the pothos plants in my tanks or my fish will eat them, if you have the right fish then I believe live plants are the way to go, awesome video!

So true. You definitely don't have the right fish for plants . But you have some good fake ones
@KeefesKoiHaven3 ай бұрын
Chris, a great video on live vs fake plants. With my red parrot cichlid tanks I’ve no choice but to do fake as they rearrange & dig up the sand substrate on a weekly basis 🙄. But fake plant choices have come a long way from our choices years ago. Can still make a tank look stunning with them. I have live plants in all my other tropical tanks and enjoy watching them grow and even bloom! So many benefits to fish health and water quality with live plants & it really makes a tank of fish pop against the varying hues of greens of different plants! Live Plants in a tank give you something new to watch every day! 👍🌱🤗

Great video Chris. You know my choice, I totally agree with you. And I totally agree with your no co2 choice. Using co2 puts demand on measure water parameters and puts your fish at risk. I did kill a few fish before I got it under control. And the solution was expensive. Co2 is just not for you according to my knowledge about you. I do not mean it in a bad way. It is just that you value your fish more than your plants and go the extra mile for them. Using co2 is for people that value the plants equal to the fish. BTW my team won the first quarter final away after an amazing three volley pass in overtime.🙂👍
@stubbsaquatics60803 ай бұрын
Good to hear about your hockey team. I totally understand what you mean about the CO2 is not for me Fish come first.. my plants are there to accent them not the other way around. Your knowledge on plants and their requirements is awesome..

Great video Chris, you obviously know I’m on the live plant side ( thanks for the shout out by the way🙏) but I completely understand some fish just don’t allow you to have live plants. There are sooo many pros to live plants that if you have fish that allow it you should have some. My opinion anyway.. good stuff buddy😁👍

Very good points on both live and artificial plants and the benefits of both. While I agree live plants would certainly be preferred, for someone like me who definitely does not have a green thumb, indoors or out, artificial is a must if I don't want a barren aquarium. In my care live plants usually end up ⚰. 😂

Thank you Chris for a very very informative video mate, I used to have fake plants when I first started out back when they were cheap lol. I remember when I set up my fishroom I got some of the silk plants for my Malawi tank when I first got into African cichlids lol and they were £12.95 each crazy money. But I'm definitely all for live plants mate , definitely make a difference to the water chemistry. Ive also got the bug from you for having house plants growing out of my tanks lol. Really enjoyed the full video mate. 😊

Yeah so true about the price of the fake ones eh? That's crazy. Rather have a live one every time but obviously with certain fish you just can't right and be like ringing the dinner bell for them but where I can I'm going to keep them and do my best. I'm glad you're liking house plants that are at the top of your aquarium. They really do make a difference

I'm glad the goldfish didn't eat those threads from the one type of silk plant! I like using plastic plants in a qt tank to give shier fish some cover, plus if any nasty pathogen happens to be in there, I can clean them in a bleach solution without ruining them. I like the silicone plants better than silk plants for fish with long fins and bettas because a lot of the silk ones I find still have sharp pokey plastic parts on them. Silicone ones are pricey though. Fake is also great if you have a fish that bulldozes everything or you need to move things around a lot. Great that you mentioned to be careful where to get them from, the dollar store and craft stores may have a coating. I got some rocks from the ds once that I wanted to use for a tank and they had a weird smelling waxy coating that I could not wash off. Your plants look great and your creeping Charlie or creeping Jenny looks so healthy and lush! Great points on the pros and cons of each, very well presented! Hope you have a great weekend Chris! 🙂👍
@stubbsaquatics60803 ай бұрын
What an amazing comment. Been thinking how to respond to this I had forgotten that you use fake plants for your quarantine tank. That is an awesome idea especially for the meds and the deep washing afterwards. I was shocked to see that plant breakdown and clog my filters. I did lose a goldfish that had bloat and peas didn't help I probably should have done a autopsy.. I might have figured this out early. Originally I was blaming the clogs on guppy grass that I had been putting in the tank but it wasn't the guppy grass afterall that was clogging them...
