I just transitioned to SE finally after 8 years in direct B2B technical sales and 2 years as an IT support engineer at a cloud company. I also got sec+ ,AWS, and SIEM certifications...took a while to get here but super stoked.

Sales engineer is a unique position, you need to be good with sales and knowledgeable and technical. It’s almost two completely separate career paths converge. It takes a certain niche personality type and experience.

I have recently completed M.E., and one company hired me as sales engineer , I m genuinely interested in this Field to make own value in market, to bring Leads , meet new senior exicutive , finish the target, Higher salary depends on work .. and so on..

I have a BSME...but i worked in mortgage sales because I wanted to try it, because I saw how much they made. Needless to say, I sucked at it...So in my current job as an application engineer, i have been doing well, and now management is pressuring me to become a sales engineer. I see they make way more than I do, but Im a little concerned.

@@1anre Very hard for regular engineer to make 100k....Sales kinda starts around 120...and goes up from there

As a technical sales guy in telco industry for years, the technology is essential. But things make you different is your story bullshiting ability. The technical sales utilize technology as a cover to make you like a pro.Whereas the truth is a brilliant strategy to balance customer requirement and quotation meanwhile diminishing your competitors. The difference between entry level and pro in tech sales field is that the higher level you are, more tolerant you will be to some shitty solution.

I'm a mechanical engineer For beginners is it okay to start from a small company as sales engineer If it is can we shift from one product manufacturing company to a another(different) product as a sales engineer Please reply

Traditionally Sales Engineers have come from some other position and pivoted into becoming an SE, but a young engineer can definitely go straight into becoming an SE, and it's becoming increasingly common to go that route. If you wanted to become an SE as a young engineer, it would be best to go to a company that has good training for the role. As far as shifting from one company or product to another, most of the skills of an SE are universal and transfer over very well to other companies and products.

@@tannerdrake which top 5 companies would you say are the best to get this sort of Solid well-roundedSales/Solutions Engineer training from, from your exposure and experience & also offer the best space to work & grow in that role ?

@@1anre Ooooo that's a tough one. As far as training programs in the tech space, VMware, Dell, and Salesforce are the ones I'm most familiar with and can vouch for. However, there are several other companies that have these programs (and that are probably good) including Snowflake, ServiceNow, Netapp SAP, Ciena, Nutanix, and a few others. In more of the Industrial space, Timken, Eaton, Lincoln Electric, and Trane are good ones to look at from what I've seen. All of these companies have strong company cultures and provide great opportunity to develop. There are so many of these programs popping up all the time though, so there are probably many great companies that I didn't list.

@@tannerdrake Thank you very much h for the list. Looks like it’s a role lore common with old & very established companies, you can’t really find something in the startups space that require this skillset, except they call it something else there.
