The Moscow Mule. One of the most well known of drinks. On a given day I find myself knocking out more of these than anything else. When properly made this refreshing cocktail is a thing of beauty.
The Moscow Mule is said to have been invented at Los Angeles' Cock'n Bull bar on Sunset Boulevard somewhere around 1941. The story goes that John G. Martin an executive at the Heublein drinks company and Jack Morgan owner of the Cock'n Bull Bar invented the drink together. Subsequently, reliable information has come to light that surprise surprise it was really the bartender Wes Price who probably actually invented the drink. I have been working in bars for many years and I have yet to meet any owner who has ever invented anything. And of course a marketing exec will take credit too! We also find out from Ted Haigh in his book "Vintage Spirits and Forgotten Cocktails" that Jack Morgan's girlfriend owned a company which made copper products, so it was she who probably supplied the copper mug to the equation.

It's very nice of you to put a disclaimer at the start of the video but, truth be told, the historic insight about the many drinks and cocktails is one of the things I like the most about your channel! Since I'm already leaving a comment, I'd love to suggest you to make video using Strega, and Italian herbal liquor, since I think you have a bottle on the counter behind you (not sure though). Got half a bottle of it from a friend who didn't like it and, unsurprisingly, it has a rather strange flavor. Although I've learned to enjoy it on its own, I haven't succeeded in using it in a cocktail yet.

Fun fact about the Moscow Mule in Brazil: due to the lack of ginger beer in the brazilian market, a bartender made a version with club soda and topped with a ginger foam. That was about 15 years ago. This variation is so famous nowadays, it bacame the default Moscow Mule. Most people don’t even know how it’s actually made. When I get my hands on some imported ginger beer and serve it to my friends, I have to refer to it as a “foam-less Moscow Mule”

Craved a moscow mule but didn't have any Ginger Beer. Grated fresh Ginger, let it soak in the Vodka for a few minutes, added some extra honey syrup, shake it with the lime juice, strained in copper mug topped with soda water, lightly stirred and garnished with cucumber spears. Pretty good, could hardly tell a difference.

My mother and her fiancé love this drink, but she goes a variation often now because of something I’ve bought them a few times. We have a local distillery (Wiggle Whiskey) here in Pittsburgh. They make “Afterglow” a ginger flavored spirit. I want to say they top their mule with soda or Perrier when they’re using the afterglow though.

I really like using Q ginger beer. It's like fever tree, my second favorite, not too much sweetness with loads of ginger, but it comes in a can that is the perfect portion. The type of lime is also important IMO, Key lime or bearss lime, but they need to be ripe and turn yellow. Always wash the limes first, since they are covered in filth and agrichemicals from the farms. Great video by the way

I used 2 ounces of vodka Belvedere, 1 ounce of Ginger Syrup, 1/2 ounce of lime and top with Fever-tree ginger beer. You can use the cooper mug or a Gin cup for more drink per serving. The ginger syrup is fundamental and gives the drink a proper mule kick. Ginger Syrup: Boil for 15 minutes 1 cup (250 ml approx.) of peeled ginger with 1 an 1/2 cup of water, add 1 cup of white sugar. The sugar will melt, and you will get a syrup with the peeled ginger wholes. Now wait until is cold and throw your mix with the peeled ginger to your blender to get the whole ginger extract. Use your strainer and get the ginger syrup. Thank me later! The ginger puree can be used for another recipe.

May I trouble you for one more questuon, take a French 75 for example, some recipes might say 30 ml gin, 30 ml lemon juice, 22.5 ml sugar syrup, another might say 45 ml gin, 22.5 each of lemon juice and sugar syrup, another might say 15 ml each of lemon and sugar. So am I correct in saying that within reason obviously, there is no right or wrong? I would probably always go equal lemon vs syrup as per sour formula. If you see fit you might do a video on this topic at some point? Many thanks again.
