The Best Opal Triplets On Earth. Geoff Stock The Triplet Master.
I am not the biggest fan of opal triplets but I am a huge fan of Geoff Stock opal triplets. He has a passion for triplet making that makes it impossible not to like them. Check out his links for triplets but also to learn about the process from start to finish.

Nice video, Roy. I bought a handful of triplets about 8 years ago -- just wanted to see what they were all about. The things that fool buyers are mostly doublets .. particularly and perhaps exclusively the ones that are hand made (rather than cut with a microtome.) With a thick enough layer of opal, one can put a slight dome on it, which is what really fools people into believing that it's black opal. I have never seen a triplet that made me think it was anything but a composite gem. Triplets are GREAT for people who cannot afford real opal cabochons, though. I myself bought a doublet for about $2500 USD (in Tucson). I bought it from Robert Shapiro, who is famous for his awards at cutting boulder opal, but is also know for producing the most sought-after doublets - some of them huge (up to 10 cm long and 2-3 cm wide.

I get emails every week or two about someone wanting me to confirm if a stone is a triplet. It is mostly the classic bezel set low ct gold set stones but to me it is still very easy to tell it is composite. Man a 10cm doublet is unreal!

Nicest looking triplets I’ve seen. Good to know there is honest people out there that don’t try to pass triplet opals off as solids. Those are beautiful. I’ll have to check him out.

He is a rare honest triplet pro. He would hate all the scammers more than anyone else giving triplets a bad reputation.

Hey Roy ,yea I actually saw Geoff making stuff on KZfaq and was amazed at how much went into making them. He definitely knows his stuff. I've also been looking at getting into silver smithing and I've been watching a channel called Chad's silversmithing. Very good teacher and I've got pretty much all the basic stuff I need to give it a go . Good luck setting your earrings

They are pretty. So long as people are informed, I have no problem with them. Good practice stuff, but if harder to damage, just remember to gear back when you get back to softer material! LOL 😊

Yeah I'll be treating these like they are solids and being as careful as possible rather than pushing all out because they are strong.

Just got my first tiny tiny tiny piece of black opal. Coworker randomly had it and gave it to me. It’s potch but saw the tiniest little fleck of blue flash. Hopefully I can afford a nicer bigger after the dang hospital is paid off 😬🤘🏻. Love the videos man!

Those are beautiful, they would look nice in a display cabinet. But yet, if promoted and sold as they are, then fine, but not for me unless they were just pretty to look at ….

Well I'm hoping to make my own earrings out of these ones and sell them off to recoup the costs. The true value for me is learning and practicing the silversmithing.

The problem with triplets (and especially these days with the online market) is that in the wrong hands, it is just a scam bait.

True! Its always the bloody humans that ruin everything. A few bad eggs will always try to scam with triplets.
