Which is the best pull up bar to invest in for your home? In this video, I explain the difference between 5 different types of home pull up bars that I've personally owned, used or read about, and explain all the advantages and disadvantages of each. Here are examples of the different types of pull up bars on Amazon:
Hanging doorway: amzn.to/2OuTDWd
Telescoping doorway: amzn.to/33ahw9R
I-beam: amzn.to/31XEMYs
Freestanding: amzn.to/2ARPd3Z
Anchored: amzn.to/2IzQv7P (I recommend building your own)
I hope this video is helpful for anyone who's been shopping around for a pull-up bar and wondering which type is best for your goals. Each one really does have its own advantages and disadvantages. Of course, if you have a fitness park nearby then you might not need a pull-up bar in your home, but for those like me who don't have any parks nearby, a home pull-up bar is a must!

Just discovered your channel. Very informative! Are you familiar with the "Perfect pull up bar"? It has a bar on arms that are mounted to the inside of a door frame. It can stay locked in the overhead position, free float out or hang into a lower position. It also has rotational grips which hook onto the solid bar, as well as AB straps which you can put your arms through to hang for hinge exercises. After watching a few of your videos I believe that there are a lot more things I can do with this device that I hadn't thought of before and I'm excited to try some. What are your thoughts on the rotational grips? I've never tried rings but I would imagine it's somewhat similar, although they're a little more stable as they are on solid hooks rather than hanging on straps. The suggested workout material included with it explains to start hanging with your hands facing out and rotate as you pull up and then finish with your hands turned in. Then reversing the rotation on the way back to the hang. I was wondering your opinion on that. It would make sense to me that it would probably be important to do full range of motion in one grip as well as sometimes rotating during it. Would you say that to be true? Do you know of any advantages or disadvantages to rotating the grip throughout the movement? I also have the "Perfect pushup" which similarly allows for rotation during push ups and the same questions would apply…. Thanks in advance for any feedback you can provide. Bill

xavier hall thanks! All the wall-mounted pull up bars I've used were extremely solid but they were always mounted on brick or concrete walls. If you have that option, then go for it. I'm not sure how sturdy they'd be mounted on studs in a standard home, though. You might want to research that a bit if that's your plan.

I have a telescope-bar and if you ever get one, make sure your door openings are wide enough for the bar. When I got one I had one door opening that wasnt wide enough so I had to put it somewhere else. I wish it wouldve come with more than two mountingbrackets so you could have two up high and two in the middle. I don't feel I can go up high enough with my head when doing pull-ups to get full range of motion but with chin-ups its fine. Another big thing about those telescope-bars, if you have a weak doorframe theres a risk it can get ruined over time by the force of the bar being screwed out. When people workout with them they often screw them one turn before going just to feel safe and what it does over time is that it starts pushing the frame apart. So when you have telescope-bar properly put in place with mountingbrackets, make sure you dont screw it more everytime you workout.
@MinusTheGym

Great advice, Captain Rhodes. Thanks. It never dawned on me that the telescoping bars could push the door frame apart over time, but that makes sense.

I would still highly recommend permanent pull up bars even if you are renting. Holes in walls are easier to fix than damaged doorframe so try to convince your landlord. They are much sturdier and you have more room, you can also mount them on a ceiling or over a door so you have room for lever exercises.

So are the 4x4s 8 ft. Long? Very interested on how to build that anchored pull bar. Definitely want to see a tutorial!
@MinusTheGym
@MinusTheGym 4 жыл бұрын
Nick De Leon the 4x4"s were 10 ft. long and I put them 3 ft. into the ground with Quikrete. So they stand 7 ft. tall. The bar is inserted a few inches below the top of the posts. I thought that would be tall enough for me (I'm 5'10") but it's actually a bit short. I think next time I'm going to use 12 ft. lumber and go 4 ft. deep in the ground so they're 8 ft. tall posts. Plus I might use 5x5 posts too for more sturdiness. My current bar does move a little when I swing or kip. I'll definitely make a video when I build more of my "fitness park." I'm traveling next week so will start the week after :)

Rogelio Ramírez uneven pull-ups will most likely make one side pull harder than the other. One way to counter this is to switch sides each set, if possible. So if right arm is higher this time, left arm will be higher next time. But that depends on if you can get behind it to switch sides like that. Can you reinstall it and try to get it level?

@MinusTheGym
@MinusTheGym Жыл бұрын
I went 3’ into the ground with 10-foot posts, so the post are only 7’ high. In retrospect, I should have probably got 12’ posts and gone 4’ deep. The extra foot in the ground would make it more stable with explosive movements and the extra foot above would allow me to hang in a dead hang without curling my feet back.

How many months/years will it take for a beginner to possess a physique like yours?
@MinusTheGym
@MinusTheGym 4 жыл бұрын
DaviD R it all depends where that beginner is starting from, so it's hard to answer that question. If the untrained individual is not overweight, I'd say 6-12 months is reasonable to get to my physique with proper training, nutrition and rest. Even less time if genetics are in their favor. To really expedite the process, I'd recommend eating a 30/40/30 diet, meaning 30% protein, 40% carbohydrate, 30% fat. That's the best macro profile for muscle gain I've ever tried. Ate that way in my 20's and I was at my biggest (most muscular) then. BUT - I should mention - if the untrained individual is overweight, then factor in more time to lose that extra body fat to expose some of the muscle definition. The amount of extra time for that varies drastically based on how much extra weight they're carrying. Also worth mentioning: developing advanced skills like hand balancing and flags is not necessary for physique. People have gotten quite shredded with only the basic calisthenics exercises and a weighted vest ;)
