Episode 10 of 50! You haven't heard this album until you've heard an early UK 1st pressing. Plus...surprise bonus footage from Scotland!?!
Pick up my brand new Steely Dan T-Shirt (Babylon Sisters) or maybe your own Valedictorian Pennant and help support the Channel!

I got a 1st US pressing of it. I would love a UK though! Meddle is my favorite Floyd album. Yes, you can’t go wrong with a nice scotch. I always like drinking some scotch with a grail album and my McIntosh MA 230 from 1963. The tubes really add to the scotch and sounds! Cheers!

Hoo-boy does this album bring back fond flashbacks...erm, pleasant memories for me. One of the earliest records I first purchased. Sadly it seems to have disappeared from my collection. Who knows when or how? Perhaps it never really happened

I have the second pressing A7/B6 - it also has the patent number on the internal sleeve. Amazing sounding. Would love to hear an earlier 1st pressing

Great video Tim. Roger Waters has observed the lyric of 'Echoes' was the beginning of the social/human themes he was thinking about when Pink Floyd began working on 'Dark Side of the Moon'. There's no doubt 'Meddle' is a near masterpiece. 'Obscured by Clouds', which tends to be a bit overlooked in the Floyd discography is also a great listen.

Excellent episode- really enjoying your Crown Jewel Series. I have a NM Japanese first press that sounds absolutely wonderful and a US OG as well. I'll have to look out for a UK copy next.

I have a 1st UK pressing of Ummagumma and Animals, but just a US pressing of Meddle (coulda sworn it was German, but I should double check) Heh, now you've made me really want to get out my pressing and listen to it! 😁

Hi Tim, Meddle is my 2nd fav, after DSOM. Years ago, I had this on vinyl. Back then, I didn't know anything about pressings, etc. I bought it new in the late 70's. As happens in life, I've moved a number of times and/or lent it to someone. I didn't have a turntable until about 2 years ago. I've bought 50 or so LP's since. I like rock and jazz in particular. I've been watching your channel since your early ones. I always enjoy the passion you have, and I especially like the vids you did on the great mastering engineers. I learned a ton. I also like this current series. I'll be looking for an early pressing as you've described. One other thing I wanted to mention and share with you. I recently bought one of your t-shirts. I love it and have received a few positive comments when I've worn it. I remember a while back, you'd mentioned listening to Babylon Sisters, and was driving west on Sunset while listening to that song. That's so cool. I've done a couple of similar things. When my husband and I went to SF a few years ago, we played "San Francisco" from Live at Carnagie Hall by Judy Garland while driving over the GG Bridge. Also in SF, I'd rented a Mustang convertible. I drove through the Castro district with a talented disco singer named Sylvester, who was from the Bay Area. Those are some of my favorite memories ever. Long live music, long live vinyl and long live University of Vinyl. Best, Johnny K. Sorry to go on so long, but I couldn't help myself.....LOL

I just looked up my US pressing, it is the 1975 Los Angeles pressing. Surprisingly, it has a median price of $40. This is the primary deadwax: Matrix / Runout (Runout A variant 1): SMAS-1-832 J-53. MASTERED BY CAPITOL jay ⨂ ✲ Matrix / Runout (Runout B variant 1): SMAS-2-832 G62. ✲ 𝒢𝑒𝓃𝑒 MASTERED BY CAPITOL ⨂ So, one side the lacquer was cut by Gene and the other side was cut by Jay... I'll hafta give it a listen on Monday and see if it is up to snuff or if I (thanks to *YOU!* ) have to look for a UK pressing 😊

Great record. I'm quite content with my PF records repress for now. But as you say, if an opportunity comes up, better take it. Nice scotch BTW, that little clip made me miss the Scottish accent (I was a student there in 1995, oh boy time flies). Totally agree with the accompaniment to the music. I'm more of a peaty guy. I haven't visited Glenfarclas but did visit Talisker on the beautiful Isle of Skye PS: I noticed the website has some colors displayed for the t-shirts, thank you. I'll try to place an order this week, debating between Heather Blue, Steel Blue or Soft Cream

Love your passion and attention to detail. Great stuff. A little off topic but since you have the Beach Boys Love You album in the frame behind you, have you ever read Patti Smith review of it in Hit Parader Magazine from 1977? If you haven't you should, it's easy to find and amazing.

Just to update... I gave a very careful listen today to my 1975 US Los Angeles pressing of Meddle and compared it to the recent Bernie Grundman pressing which I just received today. It's interesting with some of these remasters, even ones done really well like this one. The remaster at first gives the impression of being punchier and stronger in the bass, and I would say that tonally it does sound very good. BUT... you've seen my system, and quite honestly with 13 open baffle dipole drivers a side on tall line arrays, I can really hear differences in image and soundstage. The early US pressing to me sounded more 'Natural' and with more depth and dimension than the remaster. I've found this to be true with some of the newer remasters. Especially with good engineers like Bernie or Kevin, etc., tonally they sound great, but sometimes they don't quite get that 'magical' three dimensional soundstage that originals have. That has especially been the case with some of the recent Abbey Road 1/2 speed remasters. On my system, they have sounded quite 'flat' and two dimensional. I would still think your nice UK pressing would beat mine, but I was quite surprised at how good this early US one sounded and how on my system I felt it beat the very good sounding Bernie remaster.

i had a 1U/1U its a little quieter and the bass is slightly more subdued than the later pressings. I decided to pay up for the mofi though. I dont remember how much i paid. was $700? $500? it was one of those though. honestly the mofi sounds the same as the UK 1Us to me in every way except the bass. during the verses of echoes the bass is much more pronounced but they really turned the knob on the funky/jazzy jam section. the mofi has super bass on that part. On some systems it could be overkill but i like it. gives the album more pep. the uk 1U always seemed a bit subdued to me. especially in the funky jam session compared to pompeii. Speaking of pompeii, I prefer that version to the album version...is that blasphemy?

Us vinyl collectors who love great sound and collectibility must stop spending $$ on modern repressed vinyl and stick to original or vintage pressings. Do your due diligence and go vintage. It’s far more fun to hunt than just take the easy way out
