As someone who actively searches for old clips of people running, lifting, jumping, etc., I always find it fascinating stumbling upon an iconic feat of athleticism that has like a couple hundred views on KZfaq. It's hella refreshing that people that have access to such old clips are willing to share it with the rest of the world to hopefully stumble upon one day. I find it funny that the dynamic start in the snatch came up… I always struggled a lot with my snatch. But yesterday, for some reason i started my snatch with a dynamic start without realizing it. Suddenly it felt really easy. I guess it might be because I watched one of your lifting videos just before going to the gym. If that’s the case, i just want to thank you. As a shot put and discus thrower myself I feel the same way about KZfaq, a large portion of my KZfaq channel and what I post online is stuff I found in random videos KZfaq that were poorly labeled and I bring them to a larger audience. I try to show all the old throwers who built my sport and pay tribute to them. I couldn’t do that without KZfaq because back in the day it was 8mm films and vhs tapes you could buy from track and field magazine or someplace like that and even then it was hard to find. Or it was a world record filmed by one guy that no one ever saw and just happened to upload to KZfaq decades later without realizing how great the footage is.

@Zack Telander, Kakhi was Georgian, competed and won gold in Barcelona 92 for the Unified Nations(ex CCCP), competed for Georgia for some time and then changed to Greece, winning gold again in Atlanta 96 and Sidney 2000..didnt total at Athens 2004. You got it wrong regarding Szymon doing more weight at the 2008 Olympics, he snatched 179 and jerked 224,in Sidney as a 18 year old he snatched 182.5kg , jerked 222.5,injuring his ankle with 227,which took him out of competition, he was routinely doing 230 in training. Kakhi was also injured at the time. Georgi, Kakhi and Szymon had the same Georgian coach at some time, Ivan Grikurovi, who recently passed away.

Kołecki was a total beast, but he spent most of his professional career on surgeries and recovering from either back or knee injuries, mostly due to bad coaching at some point as he claims. You should check his story about getting a silver in Sydney 2000 - he could easily get the gold, but due to an argument with coach which caused him to be nervous he missed his heaviest lift which was few kgs lower from he was lifting during trainings. Fun fact, Kołecki and Asanidze are great friends till this day, which he mentioned during commenting 2022 EWC.

Is there any way you could do an analysis of his jerk? What makes it work so well with such a narrow grip? He’s so lanky for such a narrow grip, is it just that his upper body is so strong that he benefits from using arms earlier? I’m 6’5 myself and find a wider grip awful, but maybe I just suck.

The late Marvin Eder. Probably the last "Ironman" of the past century (in weight lifting, were called ironmen, exceptional athletes who excelled in these 3 disciplines: Bodybuilding, Weightlifting and Powerlifting). He was arguably the strongest man in the world after Doug Hepburn and Paul Anderson whose bodyweight exceeds well over 300 pounds. Pound for pound; at a bodyweight just under 200 pounds, Marvin Eder is probably the strongest man in human history.
