There are plenty of videos on KZfaq showing you the functions of this tripod and gimbal head so instead, I wanted to show you real world use and examples I got using this setup. This has been the best hybrid setup I've used, and by that, I mean that I can shoot both video and photos effectively. I don't feel the need to bring both a gimbal and fluid head anymore unless I am shooting 100% video. I have nothing but good things to say about this setup and the company whom I have dealt with several times. Look forward to adding more of their products and traveling more with this setup!

I have the same head on my Gitzo but was wondering about the L bracket, I cked out the PMG L bracket and it looks like it sticks out too much for my comfort, but I noticed yours at 3:24 and its over the ports which I like, which plate is that?

Interesting. Do you prefer this setup over a videohead(bowl)? I use videohead (camgear) now, but never tried such L like gimbals.... Curious if it would be more stable then a videohead (big one, 100mm).... Since, I shoot windsurfing, R3/EF500mmF4.0L IS II. The big suncap, which is awesome since it keeps the frontglass lot cleaner, catches the wind mostly, and... I tried numerous tripod heads, but you always get a little 'shiffer' in video's of the wind banging against that long lens. Not sure if this i more stable for that... and since, this is again amost 1000 bucks... I was now looking for a Cortoni setup, and that's how I ended up here, since, there was 1 clip of you shooting with a Cortoni Stabilo 12... how do those compare?

The cartoni tripods are night and day compared to photography setups. If I'm doing serious filming its Cartoni every time. However....those are also very heavy. Since making this video I have also started using the promedia legs along with the gitzo fluid gimbal. I find that to be an even better "hybrid" option especially when weight is an issue, but I've only used it for a couple months. I'll eventually do a video on that to compare once I have it a little longer. Do't like to jump the gun. But if I could only have one setup it would be any of my cartonis over gimbals.

@@HarryCollinsPhotography thnx! I think I do opt for Cartoni... I already have loads of other tripods, most 'normal' tripods, mostly used in studio so can be fixed There was ofcourse a video tripod (legs) with that Camgear V15 (100mm), but I don't really like the 'legs' of a video tripod, kinda bulky an akward to carry on my shoulder. Besides... they are made for video, so they mostly don't go 'that high' since most use monitors or any other kind of viewing 'on top', while with photography, I do want it to 'eye level', or bit more length if I stand for example in the dunes of some kind. ... PS Heavy sucks for walking on the beach but for windy conditions... a must. I mostly shoot at windforces higher then 35knots, and then wind will 'pick up' anything light. And I'm used to it now, that Camgear V15 head is heavy also.... (I did buy a Sachtler 25II, which is 150mm, secondhand, otherwise way to expensive, but boy.... getting that 'to the beach' pfff and ... wasn't even that much more stable).

@@HarryCollinsPhotography Just bought a Cartoni, Focus 10 Stabilo... (found that the Focus 12 has different 'plate' , which I hate, have such on my Camgear too.. the Focus 10 has a Manfrotto like plate, which fits better with the 500mm connectors. Am also looking at this Promedia gimbal, but like always, not really available in the Netherlands, and... it's pretty expensive too... but I still wanna try it . For photography it's probably easier to use then a video fluid head... we'll see... ;) Fun detail: I posted that broken tripod on facebook, and like I said, I 've been shooting photo's of windsurfers for about 15 years now I think... a good friend of mine, who I 'shot' many times, even have a clip here on youtube of him doing a jump at 50-60 knots winds.... they did a sort of crowdfunding, so they contribute a bit for this new tripod :) (oki.... not so much to cover a full Cartoni, but still, I love this action of theirs) .

I appreciate this video as I'm looking for a gimbal for my Nikon 500 f/4 VR lens. It would help to know where the weight savings are with that set up. Is it mostly with the gimbal or mostly with the tripod? Also, what camera lens combo were you using? I saw a review of the Katana Jr. that said the gimbal tended to twist with his lens camera combo. Thanks for the beautiful footage!

I use a canon 600mm f4. I admit long term use well after making this video my gimbal developed a “creep” where the lens would slide down a bit but they sent me a replacement pin/knob that fixed the problem for me anyway. The substantial weight difference was in the legs compared to my gitzo. Night and day in terms of weight. So much lighter. The gimbal itself is also much lighter than the wimberly was. But not as significant as the leg difference.

@@HarryCollinsPhotography Thank you so much for addressing my questions! I’m impressed. I have a gitzo 3 series tripod. I may have to check out the Pro Media tripods. I’m pretty sure a 600 mm f/4 weighs quite a bit more than my 500 f/4. It sounds like Pro Media stands behind their products. The Katana Jr. gimbal looks like the way to go.
