FILM DESCRIPTION:
Jeff Bridges plays Jeff Lebowski who insists on being called "the Dude," a laid-back, easygoing burnout who happens to have the same name as a millionaire whose wife owes a lot of dangerous people a whole bunch of money -- resulting in the Dude having his rug soiled, sending him spiraling into the Los Angeles underworld.

The way Jeff Bridges stutters and stammers and coughs and cuts himself off while talking is the gold standard of acting and why this is tied with The Dark Knight for my favorite film. “I…The royal ‘we’. Not just him--everyone repeats each other's phrases throughout the movie. It's hilarious and makes no sense, since sometimes those characters never even meet, but somehow they're all repeating each other's lines.

Probably the funniest thing about seeing this scene in hindsight, is that even the audience wasn’t aware that both the Lebowskis were deceiving eachother. The big Lebowski knew he gave the dude a ringer and pretended to be pissed off about the “kidnappers” not receiving the money. He pretended to actually care that his wife was kidnapped, not knowing he himself was being played, and he tried to set up the dude to be a scapegoat while hoping both would be killed. Meanwhile, the dude wasn’t even gonna deviate from the plan had it not been for Walter’s interference, and now he’s forced to improvise and gaslight the big Lebowski with a story he’s not even totally confident is true, all because he believes he’s now a target. Yet somehow both characters make it funny as hell. Brilliant masterful writing, almost too complex for a comedy.

Used to close hollywood video and we wouldn't run this on our screens until we locked up for the night...one of our favorites, this one...the dialogue is so good that you could just work and listen..visuals not needed really.
