For pornography specifically, the depiction of sex is extremely diverse now. Back in the 90s I would have agreed with that as that content was expensive to make so studios went for similar content that they knew works rather than gamble the money they poured into it. Nowadays people are producing very different content. The sheer volume of harmful content is still massive, but that really goes back to, is it the content which creates harmful ideas or is it that people with harmful predispositions will emulate that content anyway.

As someone who has a parent with ASPD (forermly sociopathy) w schizoaffective disorder he doesn't think things like this despite having trauma of this variety. On the other hand, doing things so openly and not trying to lie about intentions sets him up for an insanity defense. It looks like it might be pretty easy for a good defense attorney to show that he did not know his actions were wrong; but that would hopefully get him someplace where he can get the treatment that he needs, so that's not entirely a bad thing.

therapy also exists to prevent things going to the extremes, once someone has went to the extremes (killers etc) therapy is no long an option, they just have to be locked up at that point, either in prison or a psyche-ward (honestly with extremes (such as killers) it is often a mix of both in the form of solitary).
