@@ConquestCreations They are super fun to play ,and did very well. I ended up getting 3 major wins and a minor loss. It was an escalation event and the rounds were 1) 450 points To the Death: Iron Hills Dwarves with Dain Ironfoot vs 5 Wraiths. I won by kiting around the dwarves and killed nearly his entire army by throwing out 1 die black darts. 2) 600 points Recovery Mission: Rangers of Ithilean legendary legion vs 7 Wraiths. This was my only loss, but that was because the round ran out of time. He was 1 model from breaking and I had only lost 1 Wraith. I would have gotten a major victory if the round wasn't only 1.5 hours. Despite having about 50 shots per turn he only got to shoot with 10 guys the whole game since I was able to Heroic March and cast Instill Fear 3 times to break up his line. 3) 725 points Break Through: Khand with 6 chariots vs 8 Wraiths. The opponent could do nothing against me between his low courage and my ability to compel his chariots around. 4) 828 points (828 is the area code for the even) Fog of War: Helm Hammerhand Legendary Legion vs 9 Wraiths. This game was very one sided. I was rolling hot with 1 die black darts and killed Helm on turn 2 then 16 cavalry and 4 infantry with Black Darts in 3 more turns. I took no damage the entire game. At each point level my goal was to have as many Wraiths as possible and max the Might and Fate on each if possible. I only purchased extra Will if I had free points. Even with the base amount of Will you have way more magic than most armies can handle. In general it seems that Evil armies have almost no answer to the Black Riders and Good armies will fall apart unless they have enough shooting to make you play aggressive. Fearless from Bodyguard isn't a big deal since it's really easy to snipe key heroes with Black Dart. If this Legendary Legion is allowed to kite and cast then they almost auto-win most scenarios.

I am planning on picking up the nine when they are available. I dont know about barrow Wights but in some of the promotional photos for this book they had dead marsh spectres so I reckon there is a good chance

On occasion Games Workshop has released a set of old discontinued miniatures for a short period of time that people can order. After all the orders have been made those models are then made specifically for each order. It was a great way to get some of the hard to find models. Games Workshop hasn't done one since covid but they were doing one every 3 or so months before that and I am expecting that to happen again

I'm glad to see that the ghost of Jimi Hendrix is into Middle Earth hahaha! That it a tough one. You are trading a lot of might to bring in another wraith so I reckon I would go with the first list. With the first list you already have 7 models which is key because it gives you the -3 courage bubble and the extra might means that you can go in and put out a lot of damage really quickly and still have the resources left over to reposition. Take my opinion here with a grain of salt, I haven't had a chance to play this army yet because as soon as I finished painting them my city was locked down but they are first on my list to try out

@@ConquestCreations Was a total victory for the black riders! Scenario was Hold Ground and unfortunately for him my opponent (not knowing what army I was bringing) had brought 600 pts of Moria! Along with some really unlucky dice rolling (won barely any fights, his 8 goblin archers + 4 prowlers killed nothing but 5 of their own men, the fights he did win he only managed to capitalise and kill a single wraith and just 4 horses over the course of the entire game. He had around 44 models total, 4 heroes (durzhag, 2x captain + goblin shaman) a cave troll, 30ish goblin warriors with a mix of sword/shield + spear, 8 bow, a few prowlers and 5 wild wargs, a single bat swarm and 2 spiders. An effectively 1 courage army really hindered my opponent the entire game, I was pretty much able to carve apart his army piecemeal over the course of the game by using heroic combats and compels. Getting 3-4 wraiths around a warg or other model on a 40mm base and calling a heroic combat followed by piling into single goblins I was comfortably killing 3-4 models per turn. Magic dominated the game, his shaman was killed early ending his channeled fury aura and Durzhag was not really able to synergise with his little beasties due to being transfixed often. Batswarm was also neutralised when needed. Cave troll was transfixed + obliterated with black darts by turn 4 and never got into combat. This was a priority for me as I knew if he won a fight with the troll and started hurling and unhorsing wraiths I'd lose a lot of killing potential early. I worked out at the start I had 47 will to play with if I wanted to leave each Wraith with 1 to survive. Might was spent mostly in heroic combats, heroic moves when needed and occasionally just to win the fight. My opponent was correctly trying to kill the horses first whenever he won combat since he was mostly wounding on 5's vs 6/4 on the wraiths. I should of saved some for a heroic move in the latter phases but once I'd broken him it was just a matter of time. We didn't count VP's in the end, I had slowly worked my way into the centre objective that he had consolidated around and when he broke most of his army fled, only took another turn or two to quarter him and I then outnumbered him in scoring models + killed his leader with mine still unharmed. A fun list to use, I think I was fortunate with my opponents army selection and his poor rolling. Watching him shoot at the WK in combat and kill his own model 4-5x was hilarious though. Would be interesting to see how this army fairs against a more elite selection or something with higher courage.

Good questions. My main piece of advice is never try to kill the Balrog. I played 40ish games with my balrog and it only died 1 time. It is so hard to kill that you are much better off just focusing all your energy into killing the goblins and setting the balrog up so it can only charge on model and then heroic combat into one other model. Also keep in mind that the Balrog is prone to botching and losing fights here and there. You want to fight against a horde of goblins in a shield wall and you cant let them get around you. Find choke points on the board to contain them and keep your flanks safe. Also if they have any Warg Mauraders or prowlers you want to target them with your shooting

@@ConquestCreations But as the Black Riders I don't have the bodies to sacrifice to minimise the Balrog's impact and with only 9 models I can't really stop the horde from swarming me and getting around. Staying at 11+ inches from the goblins is an option for a while but can't last forever in every mission and still leaves me in range of the Balrog's whip. Though...9 riders gives me a lot of black darts to just kite and kill basic mook goblins, captains, drums, etc. 1/3 to cast and 2/3 to kill 2/9 chance of a dead goblin per will point...won't really work.

@@sirbobulous Sorry hahah I wasn't very clever and thought that you were just using any army not specifically the Black riders. This is a super tough match up for the black riders. The Balrogs fearless bubble is perfect for countering the wraiths but you would be surprised at how quickly the Balrog goes through his will points. I would target him with a lot of compels. If you cast it with many wraiths you will be able to get to move him each turn which gives you a lot of control. On a turn that you loose priority if you could command him forwards, use some of the free channeled transfixes to half his fight value and trap him with the morgul blade and a lot of might points you have a decent chance of actually killing him in one turn. Match ups like this are where the morgul blade is essential. If you dont feel confident that you could take him down in one turn you could chip at him with black darts. Or split up your force. The balrog can only be in one place at a time and he is way slower than you so if he chases after some of your wraiths run away!

You have so many good videos a random comment probably lacks the critical context of 'black riders' :D Could potentially do an early channeled Sap Will with a sacrificial Wraith to really pressure the Will store, otherwise it's got only 1 die from magic resist against a barrage of compels and commands to just force it away. It's probably a match up that just needs a lot of practice and some luck with priority rolls at critical times!

Interesting. I reckon for this list you deifnely want as many wraiths as possible. For 65 points you can either get 13 will points for your wraiths or another wraith that has 7 will, the free heroic transfix (equal to 3-4 will and a might point), and you will more consistently have the -3 courage bubble. So rather than get 13 will you get effectively 10 will and all the other benefits of having another model

@@ConquestCreations I assume you want as many as possible too, but each will cost 75pts after you get them 2 Might. If the Witch-King take 3 Might and the 5pt Morgul Blade, he's a hefty 100pts. At 700, you can take all 9 wraiths built this way, but you won't have any Fate and only 7-10 Will. Stray wounds from archery and magic would be horrible...

@@SonsOfGondor1 The 750 point army list had all 9 wraiths with no additional will. The witch king had 3 might 2 fate and the morgul blade and the rest of the wraiths had 2 might 1 fate. At lower points you will have to drop off a wraith. This army list has 66 will which is heaps! I don't think that you will run out of will. I agree that stray wounds from archery will hurt I think that's the key weakness of they army. The worst thing is going to be having horses killed because they are only defence 4!
