Out of curiosity, did the brass parts have to be polished to pass inspection? I remember reading that brass belt buckles were strictly to stay polished.

The 110 classic was the first knife I bought 35 years ago. Since then I've bought the 50 year anniversary versions of the 110 and 112. Also the finger grooved 112. Very comfortable in the hand and solid. Also have several nylon handle versions. Super sharp. They'll last forever. I'll never sell them.

Fair enough. It's far heavier than a modern EDC, but for a traditional knife, it's perfectly acceptable. I'd personally rather have a beefy, brass bolstered knife like this than something modern and 'lightweight' like a Benchmade Bugout. Then again, I'm biased, as I just love old-school knives! Cheers!

Exactly how I felt about the 112. The 110 wasn't nearly as confortable for me, had worse blade-centering (from what I remember) and just overall didn't catch my fancy like the 112. I understand the 110 is the older, more historical model. To me, however, the 112 is my favourite Buck for overall comfort. The 112 is still large enough if I need a hunting knife, but small enough I would carry it around with me on my belt. Cheers!

Sadly, people don't like old knives often. However, the 110 and 112 are time-tested. I'd rather have one of them than most modern knives if lost in the woods.

I’m a delivery driver who works in a rural part of my state. Occasionally, one of the old farmers will want to open their delivery on the spot and they’ll retrieve a Case knife from their pocket or a Buck from the pouch on their belt. They’ve likely had that same knife for decades and it does the same tasks that the $250 Zero Tolerance knife in my pocket with 20cv steel does. I had the same mentality initially when I started collecting knives. The “old knives” didn’t make sense anymore. But that was because they didn’t rise to the level of my steel snob desire to have the best so I could impress others. So I bought a Case knife. And a Buck. And I fell in love all over again with the build quality and simplicity of a functional knife. I still have and use brands like Spyderco and Kizer, but my true passion is for the classics.

Wonderfully said. I just reviewed a couple of classic British knives on my second channel. They give off the same feel as a Case or Buck, timeless.

Honestly, the old knives really stick out to me. I have quite a few Spyderco’s, ZT’s, and a few Benchmade, but I know for certain that my 112 can take more of a beating and come out on top over any of the others. The more expensive models have become my weekend pocket carry but when it comes to 12 hour work days and hard work, I’ll never leave without my 112. Too many times have I even come across people afraid to use their $300 knife because they don’t want to scuff the finish!! The moment I hear that I usually tell them they have no purpose carrying a knife then. Great video! Love the 112’s

@@TheStreamingEnderman I had a 110 and dropped it on a stone floor. The blade broke about 1/2 inch from the tip. Heavy knife and thin tip, not good bedfellows. But the style is good.

@@billballbuster7186 That's very unfortunate. Buck does tend to have an odd blade-to-handle thickness ratio.

@@TheStreamingEnderman I think it got a bit better with 420HC, but could not trust it after that. A lightweight knife would probably just bounce. I did contemplate the FRN handle Buck 110, but the Bantam looked better. To me had better blade profile for half the price.

The 112 is a lot more comfortable in a pocket than a 110.

@@TheStreamingEnderman you should carry in its sheath then. Dont worry its legal size knife so if your sheath is visible to others dont get nervous. Lol. By the way i wear tight t- shirts in summer so instead of carrying it in sheath i just throw it in my jeans pocket no problems at all. In winter time i use sheath so its invisible because of my jacket. Enjoy it. In my country 4 inch blade knife is allowed to carry but more then 4 inch blade thats not allowed.

I sometimes use this knife on a belt, it doesn't feel weighty anymore. I think a lot of people forget that it's made to be a belt carry! Cheers!

...I never said the craftmanship was superior. I said I like the feel/design of the 112 better. I handled them both and concluded that I prefer the ergonomics and feel of the 112. When did I say the 112 was built better?

It comes with a pouch. It is, in fact...a belt knife.

@@TheStreamingEnderman Blade scrapping the sides when opening and feels like sand in the joint very rough gritty feel. The backspring / rocker protruding far out of the handle it was no where near being any semblance of flush with the knife in either open or closed position. The handle scales didn't fit flush leaving a gap between the bolsters and the scales...the entire knife (knives) were on par with what you would find in the $5 bargin bin at a flea market

Interesting, I must say your experience sounds horrid. However, my Buck knives have been rather positive.

Hi Greg. I admit I was unaware of the exact date of introduction. Thank you for correcting me. The name of the USS Ranger was a fact I had heard, yet forgotten. So I appreciate the reminder. I do however, have to disagree on a couple things. The first being your claim for my "lost credibility". I need to remind you that I did NOT say the 110 was better nor worse than the 112. I merely said I preferred the 112. How does that lose me any credibility? I even said that the 110 would be a better outdoorsman's knife. The 112 is smaller and more suited for non-outdoor activities. I also stated that the 112 is VASTLY more comfortable in my hand. I have handled multiple 110s and still prefer the 112. Saying I lose credibility for daring to have my own opinion? We clearly have reached an odd standard for reviewers now! Also, the statement of "I'm not qualified to review an outdoorsman's knife" is absolutely ridiculous. A knife can have many uses. An outdoors knife can cut boxes, carve wood, trim thread, cut food, sharpen pencils, and so much more. Just because it isn't being used in the outdoors 100% of the time does not make a person's take on it to be null and void. I can vouch for it despite not using it for hunting and the like. So correct me if I'm wrong, but aparrently if I don't own both knives I can't claim to say which one I PREFER? And if I use my knife in a rural town environment I am not "qualified" to talk about it? By all means, if I am reading this wrong, do enlighten me.

Would you take me seriously if I was reviewing a drill and said: "I don't make holes with it, but it is terrible at banging nails" Surely you see the ridiculousness there. Judging the 112/110 on any basis other than their function in the outdoors is just as silly

@Greg Barry… I think you are on the same level as the guy that told me my Thanksgiving meal was not traditional because I preferred to have collard greens as opposed to green beans…fucking WOW! I own a few 110s and 112s and have not been hunting a day in my life but I prefer the 110 because I like blades at least 3.75. I love cutting food, boxes, strings, and etc with all my knives to include my Junglas. Although cutting boxes and food is not the intended use for the Junglas. I own Cold Steel Knives and have not had to cut or stab anyone in my life, and I like my Cold Steel Knives better than my other folding knives. I own Glocks, Mossbergs, Ak47s, and I have not hunted or had to shoot anyone. However, I love my Mossbergs over Glocks and Ak47s. I believe I am free to judge what I desire and especially since MY MONEY paid for the items to use as I please.
