Cade Cunningham is clearly a good player, but the Detroit Pistons are absolutely terrible, putting them in a bad spot moving forward.

@@penkima4923 maybe you shouldn't comment if you don't actually watch the games, First of all if you watched the pistons then you would know why there was so many turnovers at the beginning of the year, teams were doubling and triple teaming because there was no other threat on the court but ever since Bojan has come back and Ivey was inserted into the starting linwup Cade is averaging only like 2 turnovers a game.. And secondly to call Cade a turnstile on defense is wild, let's me know that you Dont watch basketball and that you don't know what you are talking to.. @@jerryalexander8803 I started watching games, when their losing streak was 20. According to stats, Cade turned the ball over 5 times early in the season, now over 3 times. He's the PG, so he should want the double teams to come. He led the league in turnovers, and a quadruple team isn't an excuse for that. Turnstile on defense is wild? He can't stop any of his match-ups 1v1. Smaller guys post-up on him. He's suppose to be the big guard. And he usually doesn't help on defense at all. He usually just stands still and is passive. When he makes a decision, it's usually the bad one. Not sure what games do you pretend to be watching.

I think it's a no-brainer to pay Cade. He's not eligible for a supermax so it's not a franchise crippling contract if it doesn't pan out and it's not like the team has other high end talent it has to sacrifice to keep him. And it's not like keeping him is stopping their tank for a good draft pick either. His trade value isn't that high so there's no real upside to moving on from him. Just gotta hope you strike gold in the next draft or two and he can become the player he was envisioned in college with some talent around him. If not you didn't lose anything because you had to hit the salary floor anyways and gotta pay someone.

I like your point in the intro. Cade gets miss-casted as a Luka-type creator, when beauty do his game is how he can both be the on-ball pick and roll guard, but then fall back into an off-ball connective wing I think that was the point of Ivey. To give Cade an advantage creator to play off of. Specifically one that compliments his deficiencies in Rim pressure, tempo, and transition. They even got Duren to be a connector and screener for this duo. However, I don’t think Monty is a creative enough coach to cohesively execute that duo (there’s also no spacing).

The Ivey situation is another mess in and of itself. I really believe that if they had started him and trusted him more to have the ball in his hands, he could’ve been an 18-19 ppg scorer next to Cade, which this team desperately needed, especially with Bojan out. But no, instead, they decided to prioritize Killian Hayes, a proven bust, and had Ivey playing 20 minutes a game coming off the bench. After so many games only playing 20 minutes, now his confidence is broken, his jump shot has gotten a lot worse since the start of the season, and he’s looking like a shell of himself. Great player development by Detroit.

Chill man Cade is definitely going to be better than d’angelo Russell. He’s a way better defender for one and you can see that he can make high iq plays/reads. Also i dont think he’ll ever be as good as SGA, SGA is too unique, his ability to finish around the rim is generational. I think he’s best ideal ceiling is a player like Jamal Murray, so a big guard that can make plays on and off the ball and can complement any other superstar.

@penkima4923 4 ай бұрын
As bad a defenser DLo is, Cade has been distinctively worse this season. And DLo keeps his turnovers on a decent level. Cade turns the ball over far too much, and that's usually to do with low IQ. SGA is among the absolute top regular season players in the league. Cade is outside of top-200 players in the league. Good players put up inflated numbers in bad teams. The Pistons is the worst team in the league history. The video claims Cade cannot be evaluated, because the team is bad. That's utter garbage. There's like less than one percent change, Cade will ever momentarily reach the level SGA is. The comparison to SGA is so far off, this video should be taken down. SGA has been incredible in the regular season. Jamal Murray has done that consistently in the playoffs. Murray should be ranked much higher than SGA at the moment. I have Murray as a shooting guard, and he's a top-10 SG all time. It's safe to say, Cade will never come near the area code, or even the state, to what Murray is doing.

Draft pick for trades that gut the team and make it even worse for anyone we acquire in the future that we hope is remotely close to his level?? Trade for more role players in the wrong role? Trade for an old star and ask him to over perform?? Package Ausar and Bojan for a decent player that fits and get some picks. Then use those picks, beef stew and a vet to get an impact guy, but everyone's trade value is low. Wait til the offseason. Coach this team. Pick a lineup and rotation and stick with it. Maximize their strength and minimize their weaknesses. Properly evaluate the players. See who is worth what, who fits, and if we can get something better, something that fits better, or a position to make a better move. Monty is washed.

I'd say he's more like Booker than SGA. Shai's first step and overall flexibility put him on a different level from Cade athletically. Like Booker, literally all of Cade's advantage creation is skill based. He has no real physical advantages like SGA or like Harden did with his deceleration or Tatum and Luka and Laker LeBron do with pure size and strength. I think a big problem for Cade is he's not as a big and strong as we thought. For one he's obviously not 6'8" but closer to 6'6" and while he weighs 220, he's not all that strong yet. He can bully smaller players but not guys his own size (which is who guards him.)

7 assists with only one other player close to 20 is actually ridiculous and outside of Bojan the niggas on this roster need Jesus to score 20 points a game. Hard to playmake with no finishers. Cade actually playmakers better than he scores. He scores because he is on this team and that's the problem. It isn't natural to him. It's a response to frustration and a desire to win. He is changing his game to win. He actually plays best in Steph sets, not Luka. He can get the ball, pass to the screener, and make a play or score in the space to combat the lack of spacing, which gives him space, allows him to space the floor. Recently he does score better off ball, and that allows him to playmake after. It also allows us to fill the wing and give our other guards minutes and an easier job. Cade is a number one, but this roster and system hold him back tremendously. Ivey at PG with Cade and Ausar on the wing brings playmaking, defense, and Ivey has been hitting open shots. Bojan creates space and bail outs and Duren rolls, picks, dives, and defends. That is a decent lineup if utilized properly and running proper actions. Cade is best with the ball on the wing. Get him to his spots and set screens so he has space. Ivey is quite capable of bringing the ball up court and pressuring the rim to offset the defense for Cade. Let Bojan or Ausar pick for Ivey, kick out to Cade with immediate Duren pick or screen and see who can guard that. The defense needs a real scheme before we know if these players can defend or not. They don't understand or have the capability to run this defensive scheme. They are often miscommunicating and out of position and losing the basics. Coach the team basically. Cade is doing well because he is that good. Anyone else is trash AF on this team. No one player can make us win. We need players that gel because this roster sucks and doesn't fit. This lineup at least gets some wins allows us to evaluate and raises trade value. It's the only way to improve tangibly that I can think of.

He has shown that he is a player you pay. The problem is will he eventually end up like Beal with the Wizards. They need to surround him with the better pieces that accentuate his talent. Thompson and Duran hustle bugs are fine but you can't start 2 of those guys. Isaiah Stewart is a 3rd hustle guy. They need a frontcourt guy who is effective off the dribble and can make plays. Also a 2guard that is more versatile in what he can do Ivey isn't bad. He just seems like a bench player.

SGA's wiggle and handle is different from Cade, and the main difference imo is the finishing around the basket. SGA has this bags of unorthordox finishes off one the other foot and soft touch on the rim, Cade must develop this, and I know it is hard to develop such shots since SGA has this since UK days. The acceleration and deceleration of SGA is not present on Cade also and I hope Cade could learn this

Yes I know that Gilbert Arenas brought a gun to his locker room after feud on the plane with his teammate about a couple thousand bucks, I know he got suspended. I also know Latrell Sprewell was so pissed at his coach during multiple practices preceding the one where he just straight up choked his coach for a good minute then left immediately after. I can also tell you the exact teams, and years on which it happened. But that would accomplish nothing and you'll probably think I have no basketball mind whatsoever and accuse me of simply searching said events to make myself seem educated in your eyes, or maybe that part might be a bit of a stretch. When’s the last time the pistons had a young guy come in and produce? There’s literally records of several pistons drafted players that go elsewhere and become quality role players. The pistons aren’t good at developing talent at all so when someone comes in scoring over 20ppg as a young guy you HAVE to keep him, because it’s taken about 20 years for them to find a player like Cade every since the billups era they’ve struggled to find the franchise cornerstone. Get rid of Cade and they’re looking for a star for another 10-15 years

actually cade is not a PG, he is a playmaker. He has good passing, but not enough to run an offense all game, he makes bad decisions in a half court set when he has to shoulder the PG responsibilities. He is much better as a situational playmaker. Killian Hayes for example, is like 3x the PG that Cade is, just lacks offensive consistency. He is way better player than D'Angelo, just a much higher basketball IQ, with a more diverse skillset. He needs to learn how shoot more consistently and get contact at the rim, and needs an actual PG next to him, to alleviate his ball-handling duty to cut his turnovers and forceful plays.

Ya this isn’t cades fault for sure. But they really should trade jaden Ivey and Ausur Thomson for some players that fit better. They need a strong defender in replace of Ivey. Thompson is a good defender. But he can’t shoot. OG is a perfect fit for this team. I wonder if the raps would do ivey / Ausur for OG and Otto porter jr. They need vets that can contribute and get them out of this funk. Og wants a bigger role. He will get that as the number two behind Cade He will guard the opposing players best player every game to. Keeping that stress off of Cade.
@michaelahurt
@michaelahurt 4 ай бұрын
We would probably regret that but it's not awful and would certainly help in the short term. The spacing is bad on paper but so long as Ausar is by himself, helping off him is basically a guaranteed two points because of his cutting. And players are hesitant to stray too far from Ivey because he can blow past you when you are in good position, let alone closing out. But you do *NEED* need a big shooting wing to tie it all together. Lauri, Chet, KD on the high end. Cam Johnson, Jeremi Grant, Tobias Harris. Someone like that. (Bogey works for now although Monty won't play that lineup because he's too in love with Isaiah Stewart and Killian Hayes.) It's like the Lakers and Magic. It might not be the optimal way to build an offense in 2023, but offensive rebounds, free throws and and paint scoring can cover up for a lack of shooting. Especially when you have vertical spacing. Ausar in a Nets Bruce Brown style role will also open up a ton for them. It'd be like when the Clippers had Blake and DJ and Blake in the short roll was either a layup/dunk or a lob to DJ. But Monty is incompetent so they've done it like 3 times all year. (And got a layup or foul every time I think.)

In my view he's not a winning player. The more he plays, the more people will realize that. His trade value will only decrease in my opinion. It's a similar situation to Westbrook in that sense. A low efficiency player who racks up superficial boxscore numbers through high usage. Both of them play a heliocentric offense and only pass when it directly leads to an assist. That's why kyrie, luka, morant, harden, Westbrook wont't/couldn't win a title as the central piece. He has to completely reframe how he approaches the game to have a winning impact.
