Awesome explanation, man. This is one of the more confusing battle systems I’ve seen in a JRPG and i could see why it might turn some off. Good to see you’re out here doing the lords work and helping people understand what otherwise might make someone skip a great game.

Looked meh at first, and a bit confusing and maybe intimidating. But honestly I'm also impressed. This just took classic turned based jrpg and gave us something original. I'm buying this game and I feel once I get the hang of it, I won't be putting it down!

Great video. I didn't know the battle mechanics are that complex but I always like when games are special in terms of gameplay. Cool shit. I don't think JRPGs will ever be my kind of games but for sure it is interesting how they have managed to do real-time turn-based RPG & made its interface pretty clear and usable on game pads - and how its depth made the game interesting even if it has limited (simplistic) JRPGs mechanics otherwise.

Thanks for taking the time to break down how cool the whole "time and plan out the whole scenario like a video editor" battle system is. I probably won't play the game since I don't have a great track record of finishing JRPGs, but I was interested in this game from the nintendo direct and am glad I was able to see it's pretty neat.

This combat system looks crazy. This is the only time I've ever heard of this game, and I already want to play it. It's got poise, juggling, and timing properties in a turn based game. It looks like contingency planning is encouraged too, but I'd need to know more about the resource economy.

Seems almost something between annoucement of attacks of Into the Breach, real-time-with-pouse like Baldur's Gate, while ofc being anime af. I'm very interested in this, even if the story will turn out mediocre. I heard alot of bad about the game, but it seems that only the hardest difficulty is forcing you to use neuances of this battle system and not everybody will play on that, and then say that battle system is stupid while button-mashing trougth. On the video - it's a great idea to focus on interesting aspects istead of just doing another review, because it can be interesting even for people who are not gonna play the game

man, this looks fun. it seems the learning curve is steep but i am guessing that it is like resonance of fate wherein the battle system looks complicated but if you have the patience to learn the mechanics the game becomes extremely fun.

Feels like this type of combat mech makes grinding for exp take way longer than it should.

This game is so confusing and I really want to learn it

It seems similar to Xenoblade, where your MC had these "flashes" of future actions that he either had to avoid at all costs (non-standard Game Overs), or that would KO party members so he could take the appropriate action to avoid said outcome. From a technical perspective, I imagine that it might've been a nightmare to code and debug. Part of the reason I want to play it.

well if you still remember the battle system til now, why is it sometimes counter moves trigger their follow up attacks even though the condition for their counters aren't being met

This battle system is very very cool :D that's why I wanted to play this game. But the stupid graphical things discouraged me. I know, that this isn't the most important in a game, but it really bugged me. Like the main enemies have the same attack animations as main characters and Furyu couldn't make their mouth move for a remake... Even this could be a perfect remake....

I love the battle system but I need to crank the difficulty a bit as I’m blowing through enemies pretty easily.

How does countering work exactly? I'm trying to use the protagonists melee counter but it doesn't seem to work like the ranged counter. Am I missing something?
