So I just want to say how incredibly much I miss U Dave ! Without any doubt U bring something to KZfaq vids I have not found with anyone else yet. L O V E ! U have this amazingly positive / loving energy. It is quite evident, real, and tangible. I TOTALLY understand any absence after such a crazy year. Even if U move on to bigger / better pastures, I simply wanted to compliment, and Thank U for being just who U are !

I bought this hatchet about a year ago after watching this video. By far this is my favorite hatchet I use it more than my knife, and if I could get away with carrying it around in public as a edc tool I'd probably always either have it on my waist or in my hands lol.

Oh my goodness I love it. I have been wanting one of these for a while, they are just so expensive in Canada. This is a perfect size for the kind of chopping I do. I often use a saw for falling trees over 6 inches. It is just less work. If I am able to get my hands on one of those there is a video I want to shoot. Just to make some saw vs axe myths go away. Awesome demo Dave I am looking forward to seeing this little beauty in use some more videos. Just for the record you have to be the best at delivering experienced based information on an item. A lot of reviewers come off as salesmen not as outdoors men talking about the proper use of a tool. You nail it all the time. 👍👍🇨🇦

Hello from Pittsburgh, PA. I love your channel and your videos. I was glad to see that you obtained the Woodcraft Camp Carver, because I got the 24" Woodcraft Pack Axe based off of your love for it. Now that you have both, which axe do you find yourself carrying with you most on your adventures into the wilderness? Do you find the Camp Carver to be more practical for more all around camp tasks (with the exception of splitting larger logs)? If you could only have one which one would you keep? Thank you

I have purchased several different axes over the past few years trying to find "the" perfect axe for myself. I really like the look and design and features of this new Council Tools Camp Carver axe, so I think I am going to get one as soon as possible. Thanks for the great review. The absolute best axe that I owned previously was an original Boy Scout version that I had for about forty years, before I broke it by trying to chop some frozen bones apart. It split in the eye of the axe, but I still have it. It had the right size, weight, handle and steel composition for everything that I did in camp. I kept the edge sharp enough to shave with the axe, which I did a couple of time just to prove to my friends just how sharp the edge was! This new Council Tool axe seems to be the perfect replacement!

I have purchased the Fiskers splitter, Estwing 14" leather handled hatchet, and 16" nylon handled camp hatchet since I had said I was going to buy the Husqvarna hatchet, because home depot had a sale, $31, 28$ and chg, and $31 respectively. Now I plan to buy this super cool awesome hatchet instead of the Husky. Thanks my good friend for the awesome review on this awesome cool hatchet.much appreciated my good friend. What do you think about this axe vs the wood craft pack axe? Trying to choose between the two and need guidance from someone who’s had both. Does the wood craft pack axe feel too heavy for carving with the extra head weight in comparison to the camp carver?

Hey Dave. The new camp carver looks awesome. The hammer poll completes the usefulness indeed. What do you use to sharpen your axes in the field ? Sharpening pucks, long stones, rods, files, etc ?? Can't wait to see this little axe in action soon.

Thanks for the video Dave. I bought that bigger one you have there and I was under the impression there was a smaller one (shorter handle) with the exact same head. Just in the past couple days I started seeing videos of this "Camp Carver". Is this the same axe that came out alongside the larger one?

Thank you for taking the time to watch, Michael! Great question. This Camp Carver is not the smaller version of the Woodcraft Pack Axe. The Woodcraft Pack Axe comes in a 24" (the one you and I have) and also a 19" handle. The Woodcraft Camp Carver is the newest edition to the Woodcraft line of axes and is a "little sibling" of either the Woodcraft Pack Axe 19" or 24". Similar, but different than our Woodcraft Pack axe. Hope this help, my friend! Happy New Year! -Dave

Sir, you are a lover of small blades so the use of Axes should be one of demands. In Japan, we are not free to cut down any trees unless we have an ownership of lands but you may not have such a rule. Therefore, the usage of Axes will greatly help you to stay in the wood land during this season.

Looks like a great addition to the Council tool family ! ...I am on the fence at this time between the council tool pack axe and the Gransfors 25" forest axe...Maybe you can offer some pro's and cons to help me with my decision !

Kijika Life I would go with the council. I bought GBA recently and it came poorly forged and hung very improperly. I had e-mailed them and they didn’t get back to me to now I have to modify it to make it a functional tool.

@MountainRecluse Thanks so much for the advice ! I also have the SFA and love the feel for summer and or smaller tasks. As with you here in Eastern Canada we get long and cold winters which sometimes means processing a little larger size wood so the added length would give me a little more swing power, once again thanks

MountainRecluse canadian outdoor equipment I chose to order from them because a lot of other people have had great luck with them but I’m not sure why mine was wonky but the steel is good quality holds an edge pretty good gets scary sharp. Its the outdoor axe and it was nice but the reason I had bought it was because it was supposed to be a bit more of a splitter than the wildlife hatchet but it came way thinner on the cheeks than what I had seen on video reviews and images and I’m a young lad about to turn 16 and dang for me making $180 takes a while but I’m gonna mod it and make it even better than a stock GBA and stick with council tool for my axes. I had emailed Craig 🐔 and he got back to me in a half an hour so that has doubled my respect for him and the company. Im glad to hear your GBA turned out tho.

Perhaps just the regular Council tool boys axe? It comes in 1060 Steel which can throw a spark with a piece of flint. Or step it up a notch and get the velvicut boys axe. There is also some excellent vintage axes for sale as well.

? They made it with a 22 inch handle now. Were that a curved handle instead aswelle (as the Pack 19 and 24 models) I'd decide for it right away. Why on earth did they do it with a strait handle - to not loose the marked of the CT Pack axe 21: ? Please someone (and more) to convince me a strait handle makes more sens)

You are going to love this axe, my friend! While I love this axe a lot, if I could only bring one, I would go with the Woodcraft Pack Axe. I forgot to mention that my original Boy Scout axe was made by Plumb. Although I have a pretty large collection of old Boy Scout axes from a couple of other manufacturers, as well as several other Plumb axes, my original one was ideal for me. None of the others in my collection even come close to the original.
