We were stranded in India and had to get to the next location and the only option was this 17 hour sleeper bus, for just £7! For a price that cheap surely this was gonna be the worst journey on earth, well...think again. The bus was surprisingly good however there were times where it was simply brutal, you will see. So me, Cat and my good mates @alanshannon3884 hopped on board to see if we would survive this long journey.

Hyderabad used to be the seat of the Nizam of Hyderabad, once the world's wealthiest individual. The New York Times said that ‘his pearls alone would fill an Olympic-sized swimming pool’. He used the wondrous 185-carat Jacob diamond as a paperweight. Back in the early 80s I was invited to tour the several palaces he owned around the city which were absolutely stunning in their faded opulence and grandeur. When India annexed Hyderabad State in 1948, the Nizam left for Australia and bought himself a 200,000 hectare estate near Geraldton where he spent his time driving all manner of earth moving machinery, constructing roads, ditches and bridges. Fascinating city with an even more fascinating history. It's a shame you were not able to spend more time there.

i just wrote this long comment about Hyderabad and lost it suddenly. Ben made the mistake of going to old city and not the contemporary newly developed areas. Hyderabad is not for the faint hearted. It's a harsh terrain going through an industrial revolution.

Of all the large powers in India in existence when the British were consolidating their power, the Nizam of Hyderabad was the biggest doormat. He offered very token resistance to the British. Then bent over backwards to kiss his own ass to welcome the British.

@nomdaploom
@nomdaploom Ай бұрын
@@alokbalsekar Quite possibly. There would have been others who did similarly when the Mughal Empire established itself in India. But amongst other achievements they left India with what is one of the world's most famous tourist attractions, the Taj Mahal. The British left railways, a civil service and a single language that served to bring together a nation that hitherto spoke hundreds of different languages. There are few countries in the world that have not been invaded and exploited by others during the course of their histories. It is perhaps better to dwell on the positive legacies (if they exist) of these events rather than the negative ones, because you can't change history and weaker countries have always been exploited by stronger ones since the first civilisations began to appear. I was not seeking to exhalt the Nizam of Hyderabad, only to remark upon the architectural splendour of the palaces he built.

It is the chaotic driving style of many people. One channel was telling that people in smaller towns do not even know road rules, they just go wherever they want, so that is why they have to constantly beep with the horns. In the city the same, so many come from other places where they probably do not care about rules much. Why police use the sticks I guess ha ha. It sure is some experience, for me the same ,too noisy and they really should learn how to sort out the trash situation. They slowly do , but so many beautiful places covered in trash over the years.

Im not sure why you would visit India again if you have a very low spending budget. Of course your going to get the worst sleeping booths, and horrible hotels to stay in. Every country has its slums and ghettos. You get what you pay for. If you plan to travel around India, spend a bit more on your travel and not book economy seats on the trains, its just false economy and you will be saving money but having a miserable experience. If you haven't already visited Fatehpur Sikhri, its a beautiful place outside of Agra. Rajastan has the Amber palace, amazing views from there. If you are planning to visit the north of India try Darjeeling and Sikkim. Alot of history in all of these places. We visited a few years back, but rented an 8 seater with driver for getting us around, apart from the train ride from Delhi to Agra. In Delhi itself we visited Humayuns tomb, Red Fort or Lal Qila, Qutub Minar, and a residence where Gandhi stayed.

I did Bangalore last year and loved it but I couldn’t live there. The horns are a form of traffic communication, it makes the chaos work, you beep the horn to let others know where you are. It seems to work you don’t see a lot of collisions. The madness of India is something people should experience once. Wonderful friendly people.

Ben, not everyone does it your way...I returned Feb 17 from India after a stay in 6 luxury hotels and seven cities. Fabulous dinners not to mention breakfasts. Hardest was a camel ride to a Kalbela dinner and dance and a rickshaw ride in Chandini Chowk. A plane ride to Varanasi. You can't walk the streets because you are not accustomed to the heat and noise. Amen?! Can't wait to do South India!

Doesn't want to spend money and complains about stuff. India has to offer all the luxuries that the West does, you need money. Continuously cribs and tries to cover it in a sleek condescending tone throughout India vlogs. Don't come to India with a budget of what you'll spend on a single restaurant meal in the UK and think you'll be treated as a King. UK, India or elsewhere you get what you pay for, you made your decision to travel this way so have fun with it brotha!
