Hi Dr. I’m a Indian pharmacist from UAE 🇦🇪 giving antibiotics OTC is unethical according to the law but the actual problem is 80% of population belongs to India, Pakistan, Nepal, Afghanistan, Sri Lanka and some other East Asian countries and they need antibiotics for even simple fever most of them don’t have insurance and without insurance it’s expensive to visit hospitals. Even though they have insurance as per our habit back in own countries patients do ask antibiotics if we say no they will threaten and abuse for not providing the medication. So according to me we have to inculcate the antibiotic free awareness as OTC.

One thing as a doctor i would like to make clear... 1. A lot of viral infections can be infected secondarily by a bacterial infection... Where antibiotics may be used 2. Every conference i go, they talk a lot about antibiotic resistance... But as a doctor, i have seen people lose their lives in india, because of sepsis... I even saw a person getting permanent hearing loss just because the doctor refused to give antibiotics Making blank statement, shunning antibiotics should not be the norm... I think it should be decided on a case to case basis rather than putting out a statement like this...

For that isn't a doctor supposed to do bloodwork and swabs first to check if there's actually an indication of secondary bacterial infections?? 8/10 times they don't. And just go by guess work or using antibiotics as a prophylactic. Yes or no?

Glad he ends the short by saying we need to take responsibility! The pharma is not forcing us to take meds( well except during the pandemic there was some supposedly nonsense,😢) so it’s each persons responsibility to make the right choice and take responsibility for your health!

As a pharmacist when any patients who ask for drugs of schedule H, G,X i strongly ask for the prescription. Because drugs in schedule H ,s,X highly contain opiods and alcohol. Which can be used for god knows what. Sometimes in exception we prefer to give NSAIDs.

Most people don’t abuse antibiotics. In the US, the doctor’s offices are closed over the weekend. Urgent cares can be racist in treating patients. Emergencies can keep you waiting. It is hard to receive any kind of treatment in the US

Dear doc, please spread awareness among doctors as well. Also do some video on ethical practice for docs. There are many issues as most negative comments speak down about doctors prescribing antibiotics very often. Please do on such other issues like Commissions.

Sir, I avoid having even the basic paracetamol because I have read that medicine intake drops our immunity. A warm cup of no sugar milk helps me in getting rid of headache, fever. Similarly a little honey works well for my throat and steaming helps me in getting rid of cold. I feel all these are safe !!! 😇

Doctors should also minimalise their charges for making prescription for small issues like fever stomach ache etc etc .not everyone can afford to visit a doctor with their fixed visiting charge only to get a prescription for fever or something

As with many countries around the Gulf, Bahrain also has many over-the-counter antibiotics in private pharmacies. It was not until 2013 that the National Health Regulatory Authority imposed prescriptions only for all antibiotics to manage the medicine supply and pertinent issues (personal communication). So, yeah, it isn't a BIG issue as Dr. Pal claims it is! The reason is, the high cost of medical treatment based on medical insurance, compared with medical insurance in the US or UK.

In fact Doctors only misuse it, I've seen many doctors prescribing less than than 5 days like almost all dentists in India prescribe for 3 days only, such lower doses will mainly cause antibiotic resistance it will give bacteria fighting strength against that antibiotic.
