For me the hard part is realizing that you gave your years (productive years) to someone that never loved you and never had any intention of treating you properly to begin with.

This is exactly what I learned: NOT to tell them about important things. He would LITERALLY start arguments and problems during the most important moments.

Once you realize that you're dealing with an emotional toddler who needs to lie to themselves and everyone else just to get through the day you'll realize that they are truly pathetic and have no power whatsoever.

They love to tell you to "just get over" the things they did, the way they treated you, and to "stop being a victim" when in fact they always make themselves out to be the victim and deflect and project everything off of them, on to you

My Mom spent over 60 years with my (sic) stepfather😞 Beat down mentally her health and mind suffered greatly. Unable to make simple decisions such as ordering a meal from a menu. After we removed her from her toxic environment and got her in a nice senior living facility she has rebounded and her physical and mental health are near perfect! After nine months, she is getting better every day! The transformation is a miracle!

Staying with my ex for 27 years nearly destroyed me. I felt like an empty shell. Leaving and starting over is hard, but wanting to die every day is no way to live.

When I was really stuck with my narcissistic cheating husband breastfeeding a small child and totally penniless I started visualizing winning the lottery every day and imagining what it would be like to get away and for a while I developed a bad lottery ticket buying habit but eventually I started to try harder and harder to take small steps to get out and after a few years finally escaped to a homeless shelter for abused women. I started with minimum wage jobs and after about 5 years was able to make my way up the food chain and will soon be six figured. I never look back it was really worth leaving. Never did therapy but started to cultivate a number of hobbies. First knitting and cheap things, later joined a fife and drum corps and learned sewing from youtube. All of which really helped both personally and to stay professionally focused.
