I don't know if anyone remembers this but during the height of this debate, there was an anti abuse organization (please do not ask the name this was near a decade ago) that used models wearing both color versions of the dress people saw with bruise makeup on their faces with the slogan, "Using white and gold to cover black and blue." Knowing what was going on behind the scenes now just makes my heart ache for that woman, especially if she saw that particular campaign. Just, damn.

Unfortunately I do. My ex would gaslight me all the time like this, he'd go to his friends about something I said and they'd back him up no matter what, so he'd use that as "proof" against me. He never did anything publicly like this, but it was one of the worst points in my life and I'm lucky I escaped. When I did, he found me and started pounding on my door. I didn't leave for months after that. I was a total shut in. My heart breaks for this woman, and I'm glad she's finally seeing justice, but I am extremely upset that no one knew about this until so many years later.

I remember one horrifying day when I was looking at the dress, saw it as one colour set, focused elsewhere on the screen to read a comment or something, and then IT CHANGED JUST OUT OF THE CORNER OF MY EYE. It was like refocusing my vision elsewhere changed everything in my colour perception for a few moments.
@Miashiro15593 ай бұрын
I was in art school at the time and had one professor explain to us it the difference was in the part of our eyes that see color, something in the receptors of light in which people have different sensitivities and depending on the lighting, makes us see different colors, specially on screen. I always saw it white/gold until one day it happened just what you said and in that split second I saw it black/blue in the corner of my eye. I was indeed shocked ahaha

This is so weird because my abusive ex and I once had a MASSIVE fight over the colour of a blanket. I saw it as a very muted muddy lilac (purple) but he was insistent it was beige/ brown. Problem was, he didn't like my explanation that people can perceive colours differently and would not drop it for HOURS. He tried to get his whole friendship group and multiple discord servers involved, just like the husband posting the dress to social media lol. My ex had NPD and ASPD and strangled one of his exes (she survived). So this story is really freaky!

Kier Johnston will be remembered for DV and attempted M-word, at least in my mind. The dress and meme, I'll be remembering Grace, her eyes, and her strength. The meme is hers (in my mind), and I hope she's able to continue to heal.
