It's been a rough two years for the Eagles so how did they get to this point and what does the future look like?

It’s incredible, if Sydney had been completely off with their kicking and all their scores has been behinds then they still would have won by 16 points!

I’d say Kelly’s trade has actually been alright. Geelong botched the draft selections so it effectively looks like Tim Kelly for 4 players, 3 of whom don’t have afl pages and 1 who played a handful of games and dealt with injuries.
@alborzajeli76811 ай бұрын
mmm no, Geelong used most of the high picks to trade to GWS for Cameron, who then helped them win the premiership. Those picks you refer to were the picks they got back from GWS in the swap, and were not first or even second rounders. So I'd say the trade worked out wonderfully for the cats, helping pave the way for Cameron to move and the 2022 success be delivered, and not so good for the eagles with Kelly never rediscovering that 2019 AA form and no quality talent coming in during a crucial regeneration phase...

It's clear to me that the footy club has serious issues in responding to criticism. I see club legends backing Simmo and Nisbett but i mean I cannot understand it? They have fired coaches in the past at the eagles for doing better than what Simmo has dished out this year? For me those two should have gone after they suffered the loss against the swans. You would mot have seen a Docker demolition of their own last week. To lose like that is not only embarrassing for them, to me that is a serious stain on their history and will be for the rest of their history. That's simply not an all is not forgiven. Freo have played some horrible games in the Ross Lyon lyon era, but I was relieved they sacked him because we saw a 135 point loss down in Geelong and we are very lucky we didn't get destroyed in a derby. I also dreaded coming up against the eagles every week with Ross. Now I feel fairly comfortable which is something that should never be felt by an opposing cross town rival fan.

The actions of the management team specifically play an important factor. The trade of picks for high class talent is a move of a team who believes they are in a premiership window, they made those decisions when they were not in said window. Simply cannot feel sympathy for them, they made their mess of a bed now they need to sleep in it.
@ilikegamesandtech671211 ай бұрын
Huh? They won in 18, traded in Kelly 19, 2020 was Covid. What trades from then were trading away picks for talent?

He did play 17 games last year but has had concussion, wrist, ankle and now some type of groin complaint. I think if he was fit he would be playing every week in defence but he really hasn't had continuity. Maybe he isn't in their plans for the future but again I think if he was fit he would be important in defence especially being just 22.

The premiership was a fluke. Got a high ladder position because of a new stadium no one could figure out how to play on. Then they got lucky as the team Pies choked against. Their midfield has always been a great B grade one with no AA. Every player over 30 needs to be sacked/traded

Eagles were only down to 23 fit players on the weekend. Admittedly some could have played if it was a final, but Eagles just trying to give games to as many kids as possible. Even at the beginning of the year, kids got game over better players, to give them experience. So we've had 2 good drafts in a row. This year if we trade pick 1 for 3 draft picks, then we'll have 5 picks in the top 30. Eagles want to keep the veterans to provide leadership. But if their best players keep getting injured then its really tough.
@SirEugeneDingle11 ай бұрын
They won’t get 3 top draft picks for 1, maybe 2
@BDub202411 ай бұрын
@@SirEugeneDingle The offer of three is definitely out there. It will come down to how desperate teams are. Eagles don't have to do anything. Eagles if they're luck won't even have to swap 2nd round picks etc... I'd go all out in this draft, but Cal Twomey reckons its better to spread extra picks over 3 years to provide flexibility in trading in the future. But I just think get the kids in now.
@Tris444_11 ай бұрын
@@BDub2024 How is the offer out there if no club holds three first-round picks? Melbourne, GWS, North and Bulldogs all have two picks in a strong draft. North won't trade pick 2 & 17 for pick 1. The Giants pick 4 & 9 is a chance.
@Tris444_11 ай бұрын
@@SirEugeneDingle Agreed.
@BDub202411 ай бұрын
@@Tris444_ Melb was offering two first rounders jut to move up and grab Bailey Humphrey. But deal couldn't occur and Humprhey went elsewhere. Its widely reported what the offer is likely to be. Three first round picks. But Eagles are unlikely to consider unless it includes at least one in the top 5 and probably two picks in the top 10. Eagles will just make the call whether its worthwhile or not. Remember its easy for clubs to swap picks with others and to offer picks from following year. So Giants could give 4, 9 and their first round pick from following year. To be honest that would be too favourable for the Eagles. North certainly would consider 2 and 17 for Reid. Not sure if Eagles would accept that, as they'd want 2 picks in top 10 at least. North would be interested as they have a huge number of kids in their team and now just would like some real elite talent to round it off. Whereas Eagles lack young guys under 20 and need to rebuild with youth quickly.
