The cool thing about Graz’zt is that he was a Devil, son of Asmodeus in fact! He shares his father’s goals of commanding both the Abyss and the 9 Hells, and he is probably the most likely to succeed due to having a foot in both doors

I seriously hope they stat out Bel. My main go to character to play is one of his sons that got banished from Baator and got his infernal rank stripped for trying to go against Zariel. I've got stats for Zariel, now I need stats for dear old dad!

@@Majiinsthis isn't real life bro and Lucifer is an angel a fallen one nor is Lucifer his real name his angelic name is Halel. Lucifer is the Latin name for crescent moon morning star. Devil is an ambiguous title. Devil Satan the serpent the dragon Lucifer Apollyon Zeus. Some of these titles are for Lucifer and some are titles for Satans or the leader of the watchers etc. Not every name on here is referring to Lucifer himself

I always felt to distinguish them more, I would want devils to be fallen angels touched with infernal magic. There are natural devils and there's a few fallen angels as devils, but I think them being former angels would distinguish them more. Not to mention, I would like it if devils looked more like angels and less monstrous like demons, to further distinguish them, and them being former angels would explain why they are still lawful, even though they are evil.

I don't think you could play as a devil in dnd, but I would love to play as a Chaotic Good devil who thinks his actions are Lawful Evil but everyone either plays along with his delusions or rock his world in.

Devils come from corrupted souls of humanoid beings from the prime materialplant, while demons spawn from I believe, the dark shard which created the abyss and continuously spews demons randomly all the time.

Devils swell ranks by using corrupted souls, which are a finite resource they get from making deals. Demons will continually spawn from the abyss no matter what due to the presence of the dark shard. Also I don’t know about Devils, but if a demon is killed outside of the abyss, it’s soul will be brought back to its home plane and it will regenerate its body. The only way to truly destroy a demon is by killing it in the abyss.

the D&D gods created Order out of Chaos, thus making the prime material and everything in it - including humans. The demons are the counter force of equal power pushing back. Keeping order out of chaos is constant effort, so the gods assigned a special task force for this, which became the devils.

The Abyss can make demons with or without souls, while the Nine Hells need souls to make devils. I think the shard mentioned by Ryder Igo and JJwP is strictly fourth-edition Nentir Vale lore. And yes, the only way to permanently slay a devil is to do so in the Nine Hells. No idea where A Aron got what they said from.

Well there are many types of demons and devils, with various powers and challenge ratings. We can't really make estimates using the Monster's manual, because we don't know how many of a given sort there is. A 1 to 1 fight could be won by either, depending of their types and their luck. The thing is, demons are more numerous than devils, so they should be able to outnumber them. But devils are very organised while demons don't care about what their allies are doing and could even stab them in the back. So a fight between two groups of equal size would likely lead to a victory of the devils, because they know how to fight together and how to ambush their foes.

demons is the way of god showing the devil why it's important that he(god) is around. the way you describe it , seems to me there is something the devil afraid from after all... demons. fighting them is nice word, but fear from them and their random actions and their lack of morals is really what you ment. the devil may hate god's work and he trying to destroy it with his tactics, but he is not afraid from it...but he do afraid from the idea of demons taking over, probably from selfish reasons as he deliver selfish wishes. why i say selfish? people who call for him call for him because something they want, they never call him when they want their love ones to be save, for this they call god.

Fascinating. I was raised KJV-only and was recently SHOCKED to realize the KJV does not use the word 'demon'. King James I wrote the book "Demonology" BEFORE he created the KJV, yet the KJV does NOT use the word 'demon'!

A simplified way is. Devils are selfish in a lawful way. Demons are selfish in a chaotic way. Demons arent always completely random. They have agendas it just changes up on you. Devils have a plan but its usually a set in stone agenda. Its always in their favor tho. Hence the selfish way. Demons changes depending on their mood or your usefulness too. Demons dont need you. They want you,desire you. For nothing more than entertainment. Devils need you to further their goals. Again chaos vs law axis. But this vid seems too black n white. There is more complexities in the law vs chaos axis. Like anything.

@@Thetailofthetrident in most mythology yes.. but it's different in d&d demons rule over a plan called the abyss and devils rule over hell.. demons just want to destroy at random and devils want to control everything. there similar in a lot of ways yes in appearance and there opposition to everything that is good but its how they want to destroy and cause suffering is what's so different and why they hate each other....
