Many people feel that they have no need to lean on The Everlasting Arms of our Lord Christ Jesus, but our Heavenly Father sent him for that very purpose. I encourage you to welcome Him into your Mind, Body, and Soul. Believe and Receive or Doubt and do Without the Blessings given to us by our Heavenly Father thru his Son Christ Jesus.

Love the Darling episodes. The Dillards music is some of the best bluegrass ever recorded. Hard to believe Briscoe is just 42 years old here.

This is the reason I love this show....how many shows today do you hear them talking about religion, or spanking kids in the outhouse? Oh, and I loved when Ernest T. or the Darlings come to town!

this blows my mind, it's so beautiful .... when they harmonize in "leaning on the everlasting arms" & "dooley", i'm overwhelmed ~~ i wish they had made both of these songs last about 10 minutes each ( :^) thank-you so much for sharing, lonnie!

Yesterday for the first time I went with some members of my Lutheran church to conduct a service at the local homeless shelter. After each person spoke the men there would pick a hymn from an old Baptist hymnal. Remembering "Leaning On the Everlasting Arms" from this episode of "The Andy Griffith Show" I tried to find the song in the book. But it was over 400 pages long and I couldn't figure out the index so I gave up. It came my turn to speak and after I did so I asked the men what song they'd like to now sing. One of them called out "333". I turned to page 333 and it was "Leaning On the Everlasting Arms".

That's awesome. I'm a baptist myself. Glad that all Christian denominations can come together in song

Watch how good an actor Denver Pyle is in this clip and how he subtly stays in character singing the hymn, singing the song with a lot of conviction and piously but almost imperceptibly raising his eyes and head as the song ends.

Evenings, at my computer doing my night’s work, I play this video... it’s uplifting. Their harmony on “Safe and secure from all alarms” gives me chills. After this scene, Ernest T. Bass comes in a-shootin’ and steals the bride (Deputy Barney Fife in disguise). Yeh, I have all 5 years of the b&w episodes on DVD. Not too crazy about the color episodes after that as Don Notts left, Opie is not a cute little kid anymore, Andy has become effete, Goober is no substitute for Gomer and the whole thing has somehow lost it’s charm. But those first 5 years are a delight... perfect union of humor, morality, friendship, and at times very touching. It’s how this ol’ guy wishes the world still was ; ) My favorite character? Floyd the Barber. In a Star Trek first-year episode (“City on the Edge of Forever”) Capt Kirk (William Shatner) is walking along a city street with Joan Collins when they casually pass a barber shop with the name “Floyd’s Barber Shop” ...the city set was on the same Desilu Lot used for the Andy Griffith Show.

I saw the Dillards in concert with The Earl Shcruggs Review back in about 1976 or 1977 at the Rainbow Music Hall in Denver Colorado with my Mom and my little brother. Probably the best concert I've ever been to.

@greeneyeslinz Excellent points! I hadn't even thought about the fact that the Andy Griffith show talked about religion, living a wholesome and right life, family life, working hard, following the law, respect for others, etc. I merely thought the citizens of Mayberry were just living the way people are supposed to live! Cool! :)

They're singing that song because it's a wedding. Those same people also sang about moonshiners running from the law. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/eLl3ZtaZ0a6rZ5c.html

Can you in your most feverished dreams imagine a TV sit-com in today's world in which the characters sing an honest-to-God hymn Can you in your most feverished dreams imagine a TV sit-com in today's society in which the stars (outside of a church, no less) sing an honest-to-God hymn?

Yep, Dooley is a real folk song, not a well known one, usually confused with Tom Dooley. Actually all of the songs that the Darlings (Dillards) play are traditional songs except for Doug's Tune, when Mr. Darling was "declarin' fer Aunt Bee" haha. They are a really good old-time/bluegrass band.
