I watch a lot of KZfaq and this is the strongest time travelling experience it's ever given me. Thanks for this insight.

I was 11 that year and usually had to go to bed before the Don Lane Show started. Such a different era - though the opening stand-up jokes were dated even for 1980 😅 I notice that Don pronounced Melbourne and banana the Aussie way. I always remember him sounding very American, but he didn't really. I guess we kids were a lot more suburban and parochial back then! As for Hoges and Bert, well, they never changed 😊 Two very different TV icons.

Oustanding quality, thank you for uploading. So refreshing to see real entertainers, well-dressed people and gentlemen on TV - unlike the yellers and left-wing crap masquerading as comedy these days.

Only just discovered these videos, fantastic videos, so good to see how it used to be done and still much better than today.

Bert was a wonderful entertainer, who will be missed for a long time. Don was a very talented bloke too; I wish we could have shows like this again.

The Production on this show is amazing, the sets, the back up singers, band, and the Tony Bartuccio Dancers😍 'The Chauffeur' was very easy on the eyes too. 19:20. That HMV TV and Stereo looked amazing, probably cost $20,000 in today's money, given that a tape recorder cost $42 back in '75. 25:00. I need to look up next weeks show with Ed and Lorraine Warren. so that would be 28/04/80

Tamie Fraser was an absolute delight I thought. During that time I was too young to be interested in politics or political figures but now I found myself falling in love with her. Bravo Tamie

Don lane was such a hack. Its amazing he was able to come to Australia...rip off Johnny Carson... Like many people have done these type of shows. Theres doing a similar format...but he was literally ripping off Carson act.

@Aaliyahchannel2024 Don Lane and Johnny Carson could not be anymore different to each other. Their style, personality and presentation were vastly different. Each to their own opinion, but I'm interested to know what you found "literally ripping off"? For one, Carson sat behind a desk. Lane did not. Carson's delivery was dead pan. Lane was slightly extroverted. All talk shows have one fundamental similarity - the presenter interviews the guests.

@LaurieBasile Don literally said he was ripping off Carson in a print interview. He wanted to do The Tonight Show. The done lane producers would get tapes of Carson and use bits. It was easier to do then... No internet....No one would find out. Just because he didnt sit behind a desk means nothing. Defend him all you want. I'm sure you have great memories watching him. He was still a hack. Steve Vizard was the same....and actually got caught by NBC lawyers and received a cease and desist order from NBC and Carson Productions, who produced Lettermans show. Steve copied letterman down to his mannerisms. Look....anyone can use the "late night talk show format" but it different when you attempt to do someone else's act. There's no changing your mind...and honestly I could give a fuck.
