I've been listening to this album for 50 years, I've never been bored, it has always remained one of my favorite albums.

20 something, pre internet, in he dark, playing on a CD, drunk on beer, laying on the couch, this album. Part of my soul.

The mantra of my youth. Lying in bed with a beautiful young lady in the eighties listening to this on the turntable or the reel to reel. Many great nights spent with Jim crooning in the background. I remember first hearing Riders On The Storm when it was first played on the radio. I was just a kid but I new great music when I heard it.

I discovered the Doors at 15 not early enough to go to a concert at Cobo Hall Detroit , the live album bought at a local dead store, Arlen’s, for 99cents clearance . Hole punched in corner showing clearance , funny. Top album through high school, Cass Tech, and Vietnam draft lottery, and still top album 55 years later. Today’s artists lack the insight into the soul of the country, too controlled too fake. Jim in his Canadian interview said they will control what you see and hear , 1969. Miss u Jim soul of the country, the restfulness, joy, love, frustration.

La primera vez que escuche este concierto fue en una radio en Lima allá por 1983 y desde allí me hice fan de The Doors y en aquellos años en un país como el mío donde muy pocos eran fanáticos de esta banda...

I've been listening to this since it came out on Vinyl in 1970, and of all the dozens of versions of 'Soul Kitchen'' out there, this is the absolute best. Love Ray's back-up vocals and how Jim personalized it (changing "Well the clock said it's time to go now" to "the COP said it's time to go now") on the fly, to the occasion, reflecting Jim's continued distain for the police. I also love how it's one of Jim's more personal songs, singing about his lean days before success. when he would go to fend off the cold at Olivia's restaurant in Venice, and then reluctantly leave, going out into the night ( "Streetlights shed their hollow glow" - like a snake shedding it's skin.) Interesting how he was able to turn what was most likely a tough time in his life, living on a friend's rooftop, scrounging to keep body and soul together, and yet, still draw inspiration from that time, spinning it into one of his most lyrical songs ("Your fingers weave quick minarets, speak in secret alphabets, I light another cigarette - - - learn to forget, learn to forget....") . The "secret alphabets" was a reference to the alphabet soup Olivia's served there" and I guess that the "learn to forget" reference, was Jim urging himself to forget what had transpired on another day/night with little success. At least that how I interpret it. Happy Jim hung in there, as the Rock world is all the much richer for the creativity of his penurious years.
