My how times have changes. In 1967 Light My Fire was #1 in the nation and the Doors were about to appear on the Ed Sullivan show. However, CBS sensors wanted them to change the word "higher" to something else for the live performance. The band defied the censors and went ahead and played the song as written. They were never invited back to the Sullivan show and they could not have cared less.

tjm Lol oh man I knew that’s what was missing.. somehow I just didn’t get the same rush as back in the day of strawberry mescaline, damn I’m older than dirt (74) I’m glad my grandies aren’t reading this. But that silk pants suit with the longggg fringe that just flew about my hips as I twirled... ..my first hubby loved this album. My second hated it. Lol oh well he was into, echo, and bunnyman porn start, crowded house, mac, some damn fine music too.now at my age i’just appreciate all of it.

@@billstokes6740 I've never done psychedelics either, but The Doors are the best. My favorite band. Some people just romanticize the drugs a little too much. Kinda sad, but I guess they think we're the sad ones.

Child of the 60s and love all music. It is fantastic to see you react to the Doors. One of the best ever. You would enjoy BB King & Eric Clapton, Riding with the King.

So glad you reacted to the studio version with the long instrumental section. That's what absolutely makes this song. When I was a young librarian in '71 we were reflecting on the music our parents listened to. I said I would be sitting on a rocking chair belting out Come on Baby light my fiiiiire. 🔥 An older librarian spit out her tea! Well, it's almost time. Lol.😂 Thanks again. You are a top reactor. Peace and Love. 😍

I love the Doors! You have to realize the time they were popular...the 60's. There was alot of LSD and other psychedelic drugs being done. There was a movie done on the Doors. I recommend watching so you understand the time and the music. Love watching you guys.

This came out in 1967 when I was in the 7th grade. By the time I was in high school and we went to dances at the local YMCA every local band who played on stage played this song and it was one of our favorite songs to dance to. It lasted forever and we were so hot and sweaty from dancing we couldn’t wait to sit down..remember, oh old ones?

LOL, I remember going out dancing with my friends and if you happen to be asked to dance when this song came on it seemed to last forever! Some couples would end up leaving the dance floor before it was over but those of us who stuck it out would be exhausted by the time we finally went back to our table. We'd have to sit out the next dance.

When you listen to the 60's music, keep in mind that most of us were completely stoned while listening to it. A lot of it is kinda mesmerizing especially in that state. Not taking away from how amazing it is, just sayin' it had a lot of levels of appreciation.

19th of September 1969 (I was 18): Saw The Doors at the Philadelphia Arena at the early show (7pm). A late show had been added because there had been such a demand for tickets but --- both concerts were cancelled due to a legal problem which was resolved only on the afternoon of the day the concerts were to be held. My friends and I had tickets for the early show, and heard on the radio that the concerts were back on. We got over to the Arena in time, but most ticketholders coudln't get there. The Arena held over 19,000 seats and that evening for the 7pm show that was essentially sold out, only about 2000 people showed up. Our seats were high up (and cheap: we were students), but as I recall the first thing Jim Morrison did when he came on stage was to invite everyone to move down to fill the empty seats closer to the front, which of course we did. It was a wild, exciting, and fabulous concert, and we saw it from fairly close up. A night to remember --- and of course they played Light My Fire!

Lol, I was 7 when this song came out...their first hit. The Doors radio hits are one thing and deep tracks are another. Give something else a listen. His voice....such a loss. Check out Who Scared You and Soft Parade. They are obscure tracks, but musically and vocally complex. I promise they won't disappoint. The Soft Parade is all over the place musically, then settles in. Seriously trippy.

I was nine years old when this song came out. I wasn’t allowed to listen to “devil” music. Jim Morrison was on a tv variety show, dressed in black leather and high as a kite. He sang this with just an acoustic guitar, real slow and sexy. Mt whole 9 year old body shivered. I will never forget it. He was the most beautiful thing I had ever seen. Thank god the “devil” got through once in awhile.
