The high-spirited misadventures of the two pairs of mortal lovers from Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream combine with the humorous cavorting of Bottom, played by a male dancer who dances en pointe after his ludicrous transformation. The ballet culminates in a powerful pas de deux for Oberon and Titania, which moves through a stormy conflict of wills to a harmonious union. Felix Mendelssohn’s witty, gossamer-light music for the play provides a perfect partner to Frederick Ashton's inventive choreography.

This is so beautiful and Akane is so precious! She is one of the great dancers of our time. Everyone in the Royal Ballet is insanely talented.

the delicate sounds by the choir (unlike many other versions) make akane’s steps even more dreamy. in love with this ballet 🤍

Music is by Felix Mendelssohn from his “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” work. Believe part of this is from a track “Op 2a allegro vivace!”

Beautiful. One of my favourite ballets, and Akane is wonderful. Time for ethnicity-appropriate wigs and make-up though. Akane looks silly with yellow ringlets. Get with the times RB.

I don’t think it’s about looks (because Akane looks good in anything). Asian women can be Titania. Titania can be Asian, with proper Asian features. Just because it’s Shakespeare doesn’t mean Akane has to wear blond wig. :)

@@diasnovitawuri1939 I agree; that is the first thing that struck me. Whatever, the case, I at least hope she was the one to make the hair colour choice. As a Principal of the Royal Ballet, I believe that should be her prerogative.
