In week 8 of the 1995 NFL season, the Oakland Raiders hosted the Indianapolis Colts at the Oakland Coliseum, and installed temporary bleachers in order to improve sight-lines. However, when they installed these bleachers, they failed to take into account one absolutely critical element that left a ton of people fuming, and understandably so. This is the story behind the idiotic planning and decision making done by these stadium officials

It's weird seeing the coliseum without "Mt Davis".

I'm a Raider fan and went to may of games when they returned to Oakland. The cause of the crappy stadium management ?? For some reason, the Oakland Coliseum was managed by some crappy outfit in Philadelphia. Why this happened IDK. Not only did this company manage the stadium, the managed everything, parking, food vendors, ticket sales (no online yet). This was something that then Al Davis wanted but just couldn't get yet. He eventually did, as most teams. So you got a management team across country managing a team thousands of miles away. Do you think they're gonna be on top of the ball ?? Hell no.
@vpolite1
@vpolite1 Жыл бұрын
Probably because Al Davis was an A-Hole. He screwed Wayne Valley over. He never intended to stay in Oakland. Look at what an A-Hole Charlie Finley was. With these two douchebags, how can you blame Oakland for how badly the Coliseum was run. Don't even try to pretend Finley was a saint.

Another Oakland Coliseum controversy that is less well known took place in 1978 & involved the A's & the Stompers of the NASL (yes soccer was played there). Prior to 1978, the Stompers actually played in New Haven CT (in the same stadium UConn Football play at) & were known as the Bicentennials before Milan Mandaric moved the team to Oakland. The NASL was eager to add a 2nd team in the Bay Area (after the San Jose Earthquakes) very similar to how MLB has the A's & Giants in the area & told Mandaric to play in the Coliseum as San Francisco had no suitable soccer venues. However 3 games into the 1978 season, everyone associated with the Stompers especially the players & coaches were mad at the A's & the field conversion staff because of how poor the field was for soccer especially after the A's played on it. The Stompers were so upset at the stadium staff that they demanded that AstroTurf be laid out for their games. The A's along with the stadium staff absolutely rejected this idea & told the Stompers to move their games to UC Berkeley if they didn't like how the Coliseum was set up for soccer. However doing so would make things even more difficult for the Stompers who were struggling attendance wise because the Earthquakes were stealing their fans due to how more established the Earthquakes were in the Bay Area (The Earthquakes came into the NASL 4 years earlier). Because of poor attendance along with the beef with the A's, the Stompers relocated again after the 1978 season to Edmonton & became the Drillers were they stayed for the remainder of their existence (until 1982) . They were also sold to Peter Pocklington (the same man that infamously traded away Wayne Gretzky as the owner of the Edmonton Oilers in 1988).

Oakland Coliseum was one of the stupidest stadiums ever built. The conversion from baseball to football was ridiculously inefficient. Even a cookie-cutter like RFK was better.
@zoegwyn6210
@zoegwyn6210 Жыл бұрын
Unfortunate, but once people got into the stadium I can't imagine they were allowed to move those cranes at all. They were probably locked in place and independently verified as such, and I'm sure no one wanted to take the extra risk of dropping a speaker system or crane arm into a populated bleacher stand for a better view. I know it seems trivial if you don't work with cranes, but moving one is actually a fairly big deal and not something you can just do on a whim, especially around the public.

I was at that first game in 95 against Sand Diego. We won 17-7 if my memory serves … I noted that the field was west east not north south the way it used to be. I know everyone says the Oakland Alameda county coliseum is a dump but that place will always have a special special place in my heart. So many great games A’s and the Raiders and so many great concerts.

Those 95 Colts were a freakin heart attack every week. 3 OT games, and only 2 or 3 games (including this one) that were outside of one score deciding the outcome, including a victory over the defending SB champ 49ers. An almost hail mary catch away from the SB

This unofficial Official Jaguar Gator 9 historian will remind everyone you made a video about a 2000 game in Tennessee in which Giants Coach Jim Fassel didn’t challenge a Titans touchdown because the stadium video operator didn’t show a replay. If the replay system that was in place in 2000 was in place for this game this would have been an even bigger controversy, especially on the Napoleon Kaufman touchdown in which he lost the ball near the goal line.

o.k., sir, I see where you're going with this. I mean it IS obvious as to what they should have done. This video says something to me though. You like your football to be as darn near perfect as you can get it, don't you? If so, I respect that. In my house right now, my TV is set up to where I can see football on a Saturday and Sunday and really enjoy myself. However, the TV is to my right, almost 90 degrees to my right. I DO have to, pardon the pun here, "crane" my neck to see the TV. The wife wants to fix that and we should, but I don't have the "handyman" know how to do it, but I have a brother-in-law that CAN help me. So, at some point, our TV will be in a better position. I can say one thing though, with my neck being turned in such a direction to watch a game, I DO tend to stay awake more instead of dosing off to sleep. ;) LOVE your stuff.... keep going.
