A full Let's Play RimWorld Ideology 1.3 playthrough with the Transhumanist meme. This is played on the hardest difficulty, Losing is Fun, bumped up to 500%, against Cassandra, and not using pause or mods (aside from the mod that makes it so I can't pause etc).

This playthrough was recorded LIVE on Twitch. As such, Adam is speaking with chat throughout. Videos without chat will be listed as 'KZfaq Exclusive'. This is the ENTIRE playthrough, so there will be some episodes in which not much happens, that's just the nature of unedited RimWorld.
*No Pause - Adam is using a mod that disables pause in every portion of the game. This means it is impossible for him to pause with a key press and the game will not pause during events or trade, making things much more difficult.
** Losing is Fun set to +500% is the hardest difficulty in unmodded RimWorld
***Cassandra Classic is the most consistently difficult storyteller, but is more predictable than Randy Random and cannot be as hard as him if you get bad Randy RNG.
**** Lost Tribe is a scenario in which you begin with 5 tribals, some supplies, and 3 random pets. This scenario has very slow research by default.

Wow wowww. This one really shows how no-pause changes gameplay. In my game I can pause, triage, double check all my available weapons, psycasts... it's so different. I also tend to ignore "rescue" training on animals, but seeing all those pawns on the ground makes me reconsider.

Yeah, no pause can get super crazy sometimes. But I do enjoy it. Definitely suggest trying it out sometime!

The kidnapped ones may have ended up dying on map anyway, this time, so they might have actually saved a few lol (like spaghetti)

I know losing a few colonist reduced your wealth but not enough, your raids are going to be larger regardless. . .

Yeah, at this wealth they will still be decent sized for sure, even with the adaptation factor.

Barracks are OP in my opinion because they can work as the center of the colony - a dining, rec and sleeping room in one place. In my colony there's enough beds for 16 pawns in a room that is somewhere around 9x9, in my previous colonies where i was making separate bedrooms the same 9x9 place would be a home for 8 pawns (4 couples) at best. And as you was saying, they're really space efficient - instead of placing one/several statues per every bedroom, you just place four statues in that one room and they do the job perfectly, same with wealth and it's even better - you're getting only slight difference in mood (+1/2/3 compared to +4/5/6) but you're saving giant lots of wealth that would be spent for making each bedroom impressive. + Barracks make colonists spend less time walking from dining tables to their beds, which is also great.

I know it's easy to critique after but you definitely need to use more the emp grenade throwing spot so psycasters are in range and can block the entrance with vertigo pulse or berserk pulse. Or maybe simply melee blocking would have been good too.

I do so later on. I just overestimated out fire power against that many bodies and didn't do it this time. The biggest mistake was not walling off the breacher defense line on the left from the main killbox area, though, as the raids see it and decide it is a good offensive staging area and run over us to get there. I finally stop being lazy and fix it, though :P

re: P music I'm amazed by how well the tracks match the Rimworld style AND are flexible enough to suit lots of typical situations. Ludeon should bring the developer on (in addition to the awesome Alastair) to just pump the game full of tracks.

The first raid tho... After the Ideology came out, my first colony died in a very similar fashion to a "smart" raid (except for those were heavily armoured pirates on drugs). Instead of just fighting back in my killbox they just dashed forward and ran behind my defense line to attack from a more advantageous position while their grenadier (either by luck or by real strategy in their AI) threw a grenade far behind my colonists and destroyed the power line that kept my front sentry turrets working. It's definitely a new behavior for them but I didn't know they do it to reach your turrets deeper in the base. Also, is it just me or ChubNuts got his right hand cut off instead of his infected leg? 0_0

Yeah, it can get crazy. The pathing was a combination of factors. I end up fixing it soon after, finaly.

Love your content, I learn a lot by watching. Quick question. Doors take 4 hits for breachers, walls only take one. But doors also cost 5x and much as walls and have over 5x the wealth. Why not just layer walls? Space constraints?

Yep! Like mentioned, just put it over any spot other than a scanned location and it mines infinite chunks.

Man, after that last episode where you made that comment about JLiette never getting injured, I was sure he'd be one of the ones lost in this episode. Of course, he's instead one of the ones left standing. That dude just won't quit, will he? (I sure hope he never quits.) Great job recovering from that first raid! That was brutal. I was dreading something like the raid-donkey-scyther conga line of pain from the melee playthrough, but Cassandra has her own ways of killing you, I guess! The sheer size of those raids are crazy. Large groups of mechs, overwhelming numbers of tribal raiders, and so many of them breach raids... Since I'm learning the game still (and this kind of game in general), I'm playing on a custom blend between builder and adventure right now, but I want to up the difficulty at some point to experience the game at 100%, at least. How would someone deal with all of these breach raids without the psycasting and such from the DLCs? 1.3 seems to assume the player has Royalty and/or Ideology installed, but I only have the base game. Do you have any advice for someone starting Rimworld with 1.3?

JLiette seems to end up as characters with good storylines when they get in a run, regardless of the game. In one of my Darkest Dungeon challenge runs on this channel they were an instrumental hero in the run. As far as breach raids on 100% without psycasting, low shields, etc, there are a few things you can do. 1 - Spread out layers of outer walls are good. You can then set up some some fallback defensive positions perpendicular to places in the wall, especially once you see the common paths for the breachers on your map. Once the breachers break through that spot, they will walk forward through the gap in the wall on their way to the rest of your base and then you open fire. 2 - Rush to get allied with the outlander factions, get a comms console, call in friendly military support every time you get a breach raid that looks too deadly. If they don't send enough help to take it out themselves, hopefully you can at least use them as meat shields while you defeat the breachers. 3 - This one is really dangerous, but is doable with pause. You can actually out-range any enemy other than the pikeman and other snipers with a sniper rifle yourself. So if you have a jogger pawn, or one with bionic legs, or perhaps even some go-juice laying around, you can actually snipe the enemy and kite them around. This is easiest if the sniper also has the trigger-happy trait. Hope these help! And, as always, thanks for watching!

@@AdamVsEverything Thank you so much for your reply! I didn't realize you would reply so fast! I will have to find your JLiette character in some other playthroughs. It's so cool that you name your characters after your Twitch supporters; I'm starting to recognize some names between the different playthroughs I've been watching. :) Thank you so much for the advice! The double walls seem very important and having those fallback positions scattered strategically throughout the base. I found myself with a couple of blind spots in my current colony and almost lost it twice before I got it sorted out (mech drop raid and tribal breach raid). I've been trying to just work within the shape of the landscape whenever I build a base, but I think I've got to let go of that until I get better at the game. I end up with hill-shaped bases that have very poorly designed defenses every time, trying to be all natural about it. I have started rushing to get allied with Blue as quickly as possible, then the Empire and Purple. I love Blue. They're not the very strongest, but they'll fight anyone for you. I'll never forget when I got my first (and so far only) friendly raid: Blue dropping in at the top of my map with a mech breach raid coming up from the south. It was an amazing moment; I didn't know that could happen. I went out and fought beside them and just barely managed to rescue every one of them who downed. I remember feeling as nervous for them as for my own colonists. Afterwards, they milled around smoking and insulting each other but also loyally waiting for the last who could walk to leave the map with them, and I knew they would always be my favorite. I would give up my ship for Blue, if they asked. Do you have any favorite allies or moments like that, that stood out in some way in one of your playthroughs? Sorry to ramble again! I will try your advice with the sniper. I have started keeping an eye out for joggers who are good at ranged, for hunting purposes, but I will try to get more comfortable venturing out of my base to try to snipe mechs. The scythers scare me the most, I think; they are so fast. Thank you again for all of your advice and your time typing out the comment. I appreciate it so much! :)

re: oof Spoilers Mix raids like those are pretty rough. Seems like not having the traps in place made a difference. In previous killboxes you've had them set up in front of the firing positions to prevent melee from breaking through. As you said, the turrets were kind of an issue, but only after the raiders grabbed the prime cover around the breacher-barricades. Seems like the AI saw a dozen good cover spots on left, broke for those, then a couple of them ended up into positions where they could see the turret. You had 8-10 ranged take up cover around the breacher barricades specifically to shoot at your dudes. On the good side, if they'd set the base on fire the run really would have been over. Remember the bad ol' days when colonists got freaked out by corpses? Be hard going back to that...

​@@mycek4029 I never really used them except in emergencies - don't like the meat shield cheese (zoning a bunch of animals into a small space), and attack animals get in the way of psycasts / shooters. So I only use them as a last resort. The good attack animals (elephants, bears, rhinos, etc.) still function the way they used to.

Yeah, it was a combination of those two factors. The biggest one was actually not having a wall between killbox and that breacher defense on the left. Enemies tried to go use the breach defense line as an offensive staging point against me. I finally fix it, though. :P

Is there a reason to use ship reactors instead of just chemfuel generators? That latter, even if you include the space required to make the food, takes way less space. And the work is relatively trivial.

As you mentioned, it takes no material after it is done, takes no labor to make the chemfuel, or load it. Space isn't a huge issue on these kind of maps, usually.

When they are in a poor mood because of pain, can you queue up a surgery to induce Anesthesia and then cancel the operation?

There's an anesthetize operation you could do, I think. It's an interesting idea. Not one I have tried for that purpose yet, though!

I always try to skimp on IED's, and sometimes it bites me. It is nice that IED cost/wealth got reduced now, though.

@@AdamVsEverything i just wish we could bulk make mortar shells for it, seeing my guy run across the base grabbing steel and chem fuel just to make 1 shell makes me want to cry, then having a random animal step on my mine field makes me sad...but when it does work vs a giant tribal raid..oh man oh man :)

You've probably already corrected it, but I'm catching up on the series today....You haven't changed your food restrictions from simple back to lavish on the four you sent on the rescue mission. I've noticed them eating pemmican and other stuff for a while now. Keep up the great content! It's really awesome watching real talent play the game no pause.
