In my previous video I showed my first cut, here is some more detail about the machine...
Is this the end of little engines?
What do you think?

Nice review. Thanks. Recently got the long reach hedge trimmer. Absolutely amazed how long the battery lasted. So nice not to reek of 2-stroke fumes too! Now looking at a commercial grade line trimmer. This looks like a good unit.

After three years of operation, vibration appeared, beats off the hand, it is simply not possible to work. I was forced to change the motor. Before I got this model, I used 2-stroke for 4 years, and 4-stroke for 7 years !!!! no problem !!!! Now I think they will go back to 4-stroke !

That's interesting, I think mine is around four years old now, and I am still very happy. I also had a 2 stroke for near 20 years. I don't know how my electric will handle a decade. If you have a vibration, I expect that means an imbalance. Have ypu checked for debris in the cooling fan behind the cord cartridge?

maybe the longer runtime vs gas is due to the added oil in the fuel displacing the more combustible petrol. glad to see electric tools catching up and surpassing gas powered ones!

Hi, thanks for the review, I'm considering one of these and a hedge trimmer with the same battery. I have a question - have you used it with the blade, and does it cope ok with tough stems, brambles etc,?

I have bought the hedge trimmer HSA 66, and it handles tough shrubbery, even lomandra which is a very tough sword grass type plant. The battery life is hours of work. I can't imagine using a two stroke engine for this work. I would be so annoyed ;)

Thanks Michael, great video. As a contractor, i'm seriously considering buying the fsa90 or the 130. I recently bought the battery hedge trimmer and like you, at the end of the day, it's great not having to deal with all the petrol parts/fumes. Plus ease of starting and being quieter. While the engine being in the head would take a bit of getting used to, not having it up the other end closer to my ear is a bonus. How was changing the line? Does it come with the speedfeed where you can just feed the line through or do you have to dismantle and wind it on? Unsure why folk are commenting on chainsaws here but there you go!

It's kinda hilarious how much less cord this needs. When you are near objects that are very aggressive towards the cord you can really slow down the motor speed, whereas with an engine powered unit with a centrifugal clutch has a hard time running slowly. The Cartridge is identical to the two stroke petrol units, with bump feed 2.4mm cord, but even now I have not yet needed to swap out the cord. I have recently bought a chainsaw, and pole lopper that uses the same battery system, I am very happy so far with everything.

@@helmreichenterprises8391I just purchased an FSA 90 with a bike handle and may take it back on monday for a refund, due to the inability to get a balanced weight distribution. I have too lift up and pull back on the bike handle to get the cutting head off the ground. I once had a 2 stroke with bike handles that was perfectly balanced so that my shoulders took all the weight. Does anybody have any suggestions.

Does the harness attachment collar on the shaft move? You could balance it to your liking if so?

They are great until the motor in the head goes wrong and you need to replace the complete motor with a new one. These are not cheap to buy new and replacement parts are expensive.

I think the advantage of petrol is no battery. The battery is a disposable item and at £200 vs a cheap liquid full of energy that 5 litres can run a machine all day long makes the battery a pain in the arse. I have the battery chainsaw and if you cut too much timber the saw becomes over loaded with work and the battery reduces power availible which is annoying. Even a small 30cc saw will work really hard all day cope with work loads and no £200 losses to concern about.

I have been using petrol line trimmers/brush cutters since around 1980, and I am so glad to be free of petrol. The fuel degrades, and the maintenance on small engines is high. I find that the battery powered unit just goes, instantly. The time that i takes to fuel up and start a two stroke actually gets a lot done with the electric. The battery does about 2/3rds of the work of the tank of petrol. It charges so quickly that I haven't bothered to buy a second. The advantage is maybe better explained if you were to think about a cordless drill. The electric just works. What kind of engine & transmission would you use for a drill? An example is when you want to run around delicate items like shrubs, or wire fencing the electric trimmer lets you go very slow RPM, a petrol unit hammers and shudders, it also is not good for the clutch. Cheap cordless tools ave batteries that don't last long, but batteries can actually last a long while. I have many cordless tools still working with the original battery 13 years later. The battery did not cost 200 pounds, it costed less than $200 AUD, which is less than 100 pounds. I would definitely use more than $200 of petrol & oil in 10 years. The unexpected thing that I have found is that the whip cord lasts much longer on the electric tan it does on the petrol machine. Another great thing is that my wife can just use it, I acn't express how fuss free these machines are. I have roof top solar, so the battery can be/ is charged from the sun.

Chris Waddington I have a fs 360 I've used (tested) this battery version and I put it down after 3min use, its too light, it's got no weight to it and the back pack battery is heavy and uncomfortable! Overall its crap! This guy is saying you get spills with fuel, well you don't if you follow the correct procedure to refuelling by using a funnel, also petrol engines don't smell or smoke if you carry out the correct maintenance! And fuel storage isn't a problem if you follow the correct procedure. I can honestly say if you was to use this against an fs 360 or higher fs clearing saw model you would run out of battery life before finishing the job, also adding to that, the electric strimmer is even worse when the grass is damp or wet. My opinion don't waist your time

I mentioned the wet grass issue to the Stihl distributor, and he responded about moisture, saying that it is no different to the two-stroke. He also said that the angle drives on any petrol machine should never be immersed in water either, as they get hat, and just like trailer bearings when immersed in water draw in the water as the air inside cools. As for the battery, I find the battery not heavy enough for a good balance. The unit is too front heavy for my liking. Electric motors don't need to be heavy to beat the pants off a petrol engine. I have not tried the FS 360, this unit is the FSA90. It does work very well compared with the FS85 Two-stroke. Petrol engines smell, if you work with them for hours on end, you end up breathing in exhaust, not question. Anyone who has done any work with these machines will have spilt fuel. I used to live 200km away, and the fuel didn't degrade as badly as it does here, - I think it relates to humidity. One thing I have not seen is what 20 years will do to it. I had a Two-stroke Echo for about 25 years. My father still has his 1970's Stihl chainsaw. :/
