"Somehow Betterhelp returned"

I remember people got called out within their fan base for sponsoring better help because of how slimy it was even before PewDiePie made a video. It was a legit shock when everyone and their grandmother started sponsoring them with zero fan backlash.

Betterhelp is DEFINITELY not affordable. I looked into it when it first came out. It was BY FAR SO MUCH MORE EXPENSIVE than any local therapists. Plus local therapists offer sliding scales and will work with you. And if they can't help they'll refer you to someone who can.

Crypto and gambling: financial death. BetterHelp and Crunchyroll: Emotional death.

I remember seeing Ads for better help...and immediately i said "I doubt this is any good."

I'm glad Nux is back talking about this. For the past few months every time I saw a Better Help ad, all I could think is "Didn't we squash them along with those fake noble title guys?" Good to see I'm not completely crazy and this really is a zombie come back to life.

Better help is predatory for people with genuine mental health issues. I tried them back in the covid times before I knew anything about them and it was such a mistake. I was reccomended to get a therapist by my psych but there were very few options at the time because of the lock downs. Whats insidious about the 7 week trial is that you get a single session with your therapist and the other 6 days are to use a journal. That it. Its a journaling service that you can share with a someone who is considered a therapist. Its really upsetting how this terrible service is coming back into the public eye. Theres probably a lot of people wasting money on this that they could be saving for actual help. Very upsetting situation.

A good therapist listens to what you have to say, while a great therapist needs therapy afterwards.

Bro the worst for taking their sponsor is Good Mythical Morning. They never stopped accepting their sponsorship and still do as recently as this month or last month. Further proving Rhett and Link care only for the money.

This one time I saw a betterhelp ad and it was something along the lines of a lady randomly wandering through her house being like "I think I'm gay" and then it shows her saying something to her siri about asking about where to go to talk about queer stuff, and then laughably it was like "Go to a therapy for real help, for real problems" but the way it phrased it was acting as if being gay was a problem in of itself? It is surreal.

I got betterhelp-ed during covid. Long story short the therapist tried to speedrun the process in those 7 days by doing EMDR on me when I wasn't ready nor in a safe situation for it, and then I got auto-charged for a month before the trial was even over and had to call them only to get like half of my money back. Oh and they prescribed me medication.

And yet Mr.Ballen STILL accepts sponsors from them! In fact they was even in one of his recent videos last week!

I tried Better help before I heard of any of this, and the therapist I got matched with immediately referred me to another, who then immediately referred me back, and so on and so forth

Literally the rule of taking sponsorship: NOT TAKING mental health services, gamble website, crypto, scams (and all in above are scams tbh)

I remember around 2018 there was a KZfaqr named Memology101 who brought light to the situation and exposed a lot of disturbing things about BetterHelp. I remember that Phillip Defranco was under fire for promoting it and he tried to double down saying that he didn't know about these lies, but after a while he finally dropped them.

I had hoped that Betterhelp had taken this time to become better and be what they claimed. Sadly, they didn't.

Betterhelp was one of the first therapists I ever tried, back when I was going through a really dark time. The only reason I tried it was because it was advertised by the Cinema Therapy guys. It was nice having someone to talk to, but something felt off pretty quickly. The lady was late for appointments and rescheduled them often. She was fixated on talking about my mom rather than listening to what I was actually telling her (found out later that she had issues with HER mom). And I started noticing a discrepancy between the way she talked and the way she texted. It sounded like a completely different person. Eventually I pointed it out and asked if she had written a book since it sounded like she was quoting from a book, and I'd been told she personally texted everything to me. She got offended that I asked: no she hadn't written any books, why was I asking this, we weren't here to focus on her, etc. I quit the service not too long after. Honestly, the best part of it was the access to lectures and conference videos where I could educate myself, but KZfaq has that for free. Plus they didn't have much that approached the severity of things I as dealing with. I'm so much happier now with an in-person therapist who is actually trauma-informed. She's amazing! And thanks to the sliding scale for payment, I'm basically paying what I would've for Betterhelp. Good therapists can be hard to find, but they're out there. Don't settle for the crappy online stuff.

I still don't understand why people picked up Better Help again, that thing blew up huge way back when. Like, *huge*. People were making heckin excuses, "Oh. I didn't know any better. I swear, if things were different..." God, and I believed them! That's the biggest kick in the teeth. I believed them, and the minute it's back they hop right the fuck back on. God it pisses me off.

I was curious and you can literally just go on thier site and become a therapist on thier site. And you are not employed by them you are considered a private practice. So they are basically charging you to be sent to a stranger who most likely just wants to be role play therapy

I'm shocked they haven't hopped on the AI wagon, because honestly an AI therapist could actually change the game forever. Imagine if you will a world class Therapist AI but you never have to schedule them and they have no other patients but you. Sure AI won't full replace a real human but if I could get the undivided attention of like 90% of a world class therapist in my pocket on demand at an actual moments notice like better help would make you think that would be outstanding. You could even make multiple models based on the best therapists of every specialization and you could even get a panel of experts to assist. If they put 1% the effort they put into AI Girlfriends into AI therapist it might actually change the world.

One thing that makes getting a sponsor for online therapy like Better Help is that, unless the person promoting it has mental health issues themselves, the person can’t really speak from any personal experience compared to a shitty mobile game or something where the person has the ability to see if the service/product is actually worth it.

To anyone wondering about why Crunchyroll sponsors are unethical to some. Apparently the site started out by pirating anime before they became “official”. After they became official, crunchyroll renounced piracy, I guess, and we’re massive hypocrites about the ordeal. (Just relaying what was read in some comments since many were wondering. This is the depths on my knowledge on this topic 😂)

If i recall better help disrespects HIPPA, frankly i didn't trust them from the start online therapy sounded sus and i feel vindicated for believing that!

tbh, these accounts of people's experiences with Better Help, isn't much worse than my experiences with legitimate irl therapists. For example, the one who told me when I was a kid, that if I were his son, he'd run my video games over with his car. Or the one who told my family to put me in a mental hospital, to this day legitimately have no idea why. There's a couple more, but mentioning them in a quick comment like this is impossible.

As a rule of thumb I NEVER believe most sponsored ads. Only ads I'll at least look at is if it's advertising a store or shop. Like card kingdom, shark robot, or bad dragon.

I remember around 2016 or 17 better help and crap like established titles both got a ton of heat for various reasons and for some reason the pandemic made ppl forget and established titles got it again at the end of 22 or 23 and now I'm glad everyone paying attention to better help. The way I've looked at that company and it's shadiness to me is the equivalent of "drive thru fast food" of the therapy world. From all the different things I've heard they don't pay the therapist adequately and expect them to be available even off hours, it's really not that much cheaper (I guess you can say you save a lot more if you don't have to drive) and there are plenty of people who've used it who've complained that their therapist is completely checked out, and even one Heard their therapist flush a toilet. I believe initially they got into some shit about selling people's medical data. It's all around just shady and scummy sounding. Yeah not everybody can afford to go and pay for therapy but is it really that much better to have low quality therapy?

Crazy to not look into sponsors to me, like the ads you bring to your community are a sign of who you are as a person to me. Like even my small ass got a sponsorship deal recently for a shady key and account selling sight and I vehemently said no. I would rather have no sponsors and trust from my viewers then try and sell them something they wont like/is ACTUALLY harmful. That being sad, I can see how at a short glance it may be hard at first to doubt Better help because, as has been said, "Everyone takes Better Help deals" so its kinda a group agreement that it must be good. And what they offer on paper sounds good. Its juts when you look a tiny bit deeper that they whole thing falls apart.

It sad, some of them don't really get what better health is or what they do. They think it makes them look like they care about mental health and make money at the same time. I wish it was easier to get help, in the US at least, from a mental health doctor or therapist.

I think it speaks volumes of the state of our healthcare when people are willing to risk it with sketchy online healthcare businesses. Like who do you prefer to rip you off: licensed scammer or unlicensed scammer. It’s sad really.

As a nutter myself I think the main reason for their success is desperation. Even in the UK, where healthcare is free, it's hard to get seen by specialist mental health workers. If governments put their money where their mouth is, instead of just paying lip service to the severity of mental illness, and invested in mental health services then exploitative companies like this could take a running jump.

I somehow missed the first wave of BetterHelp/online therapy whistle blowing. I'm glad Nux decided to cover this again for anyone who missed this.
