The Engineer's utilities and grenades are some of the most interesting in the game. The lure, proximity mine, and plasma burster each fit different play styles. Whether you'd prefer a more tactical approach to situations or an outrightly offensive way of play, your choice of grenade can have an important impact on your play style. In this video, I'll be going over all three grenades and what makes them so special.I had a lot of fun making this video. I hadn't given the plasma burster a fair shot until production of it. I used it to replace the PGL so I can use the breach cutter more, and I'm really happy I did.

PSA: If you just keep killing the enemies that the L.U.R.E attracts then it will open up those slots for other enemies to be distracted, I know this may seem obvious, but he didn't explicitly mention this in the video and I just wanted to point it out, especially considering how devastating this is when combined with spinning death on the Breach Cutter.

On elimination missions you can stack a bunch of proximity mines on top of eachother leading to massive damage, you can even one shot a dreadnought if you have enough Engineer is op against elimination missions

No you cannot one shot a dreadnaught, because there is a limit for how much damage you can do before the cocoon regenerates automatically. Also there is a limit, albeit quite high, of how many mines you can put down.

@@JeyJeyKing1 i have done it multiple times. It kills dreadnought in second if I have etleast 7 or 8 mines on Haz 4. I normally go for the 12 mines, but at that point it is overkill.

Everytime I watch a Sploob video I have to reassess some of the ways how I play the game, and this video is no different. Stuff like the platform gun animation cancelling and plasma burster momentum influencing is what seperates a great player from a legendary one. Great video!

The plasma burster is my favourite engineer grenade. It may be tricky to use at first, but after you use it for a while it's pretty intuitive.

the plasma burster must be my most used engi grenade yet it never made me feel like how you explained it to be I guess my grenade knowledge from games like CS:GO are useful in this game,I'm always aware of where my nades will go dependant on momentum,angle,etc. I like how it's straight forward and just deals damage unlike the other 2 nades which require more setting up to do.

I've heard that the Plasma grenade shares its unique damage type (plasma) with the Breach Cutter and that no enemy has resistance to it. The wiki lists it as explosive though. I can't confirm this, but it was interesting and would be a point in its favor for anyone considering using it in the future.

Plasma grenades don't do "plasma dmg". "Plasma dmg" doesn't exist. Breech cutter does 50% fire and 50% electric dmg.

I only just started playing this game, and finally deciding to delve into the meta of this game. I really appreciate your videos like this, because not only do you walk through numerous examples and build suggestions (instead of sticking to just one), you also included video footage of these things in action. I think I'll be watching more of your guide videos, so I can branch out from Scout and get the most out of this game. :)

Plasma Burster is like having a quick cast piercing fireball spell available to you at any time. Whether that helps you or not depends on your weapon build. I've found Mini-shell shotgun and Spinning Death Breach Cutter to work the best with it. Proximity mine works best with a fortification building mindset: every time there's either an event or an incoming wave of enemies, start building murder tunnels using your repellent coated platforms while leaving mined chokepoints every few meters. Lure is perfectly ok.

the plasma burster quickly became my favorite nade for the engi. and i've used it a lot BUT the tip with moving backwards never dawned on me. i usually throw it at the first enemy in the group and let it bounce through them. thanks for the great tip. Rock and stone :D

Hey, you used your Moon Dance song for this video. It sounds great! I always ran with proximity mines. But I'm trying to get used to every item in the game. I found the Plasma Burster works pretty well with a 'nade-jumping build, since the PGL's damage is significantly lessened. Speaking of that build, turning the PGL into a stun grenade of sorts, it makes a Plasma Burster more efficient as the bugs bunch up with their stunned brethren.

I've been using the plama burster ever since it's introduction. While yeah I've done my share of friendly fire with it, usually the damage and control it gave back was well worth downing a friend for a bit. I think it's by far the best choice on high hazard missions as it doesn't only have the decent damage but because it can hit such a large spread the fear it brings gives so much extra utility and damage. But then again, if you'd ask my friends they might have a different view on how those battles go....

i really love how much your videos have improved! showing the stats and showing the things youre talking about in game more, its really fantastic :) it makes for a much more enjoyable video! also, is it just me or does the video feel like it was a little oversaturated or something? but other than that this is probably one of your best videos to date even from somebody who's least favorite class is engineer :)

heres a tip for the plasma burster: on flat ground you can lob one at the tip of a crowd and it’ll carve a nice path right through em. It’s pretty predictable once ya get the hang of it

The plasma burster is my grenade of choice. I've always had a knack for bouncing grenades right where I want them to go, so it appeals greatly to my strength in that regard, and funneling a hoard of grunts down a tight corridor and tossing a burster down the length of it is one of the most satisfying ways to deal with fodder. It is incredibly powerful if you know how to use it.

Personally, I love using the buster alongside the cutter. When reloading, I cancel the reload animation with a nade to keep my damage up when faced with bigger foes

Ah, Plasma Burster: the one nade that is usually more harmful to your team than the enemies, certainly if you have a greenbeard engi in the group.

I love the Engie’s grenades because they are so obtuse and not as straight forward. But they are great tools depending on how you use them. Want to control where the enemies go? There’s the LURE. Want to make areas where the enemies would get damaged if they pass through an area? The mine. Want something that has a lot of area damage that could clear out a crowd? The 4 burst.

I think the lure is the strongest, bcs i can just throw 3 of them and just start spamming with the breach cutter with the 3 lasers upgrade, or with the nade launcher, so it's good for hazard 5 and deep dives, especially if you driller goes for the bunker strat, same goes for the mines tho

mines > all. they just do so much work. nothing wrong with the lure though. i remember the original lure would actually taunt the WHOLE level and lasted much longer.... it was soooooo gross. just like the original pheromone nade. i miss that too. i agree that the plasma grenades can gtfo though. they need a little love to be viable vs the other 2 nades which are so strong.

You can also shoot the plasma burster out of the air if your aim is good. You can clear out macteras with it or blow the grenade up next to a wall. Also you should't throw it in front of your gunner, they can detonate the burster with their minigun if they are not careful.

Are you sure you're not confusing it with the Thin Containment Field on the EPC? I'ma still try out what you mean, though

@@PsychicSploob No, you can shoot both, its not that fancy as the thin contaiment field but you can detonate the burster too. I recommend using the shotgun if you want to try it out, its really easy to hit it with that.

How do you unlock the other types of grenades? I looked on their wiki, which said you needed a specific level, but I still haven't got the grenades? They aren't available on my assignment board either.

The performance of the breach cutter has been kind of all over the place with all the patches and I actually haven't used the vanilla BC since the latest patch, but I suspect it's pretty solid

I've found the triple line version is very effective against Mactera spawn as they usually fly at similar heights in formation and are usually close enough to kill at least 3-4 per shot. It's also good for tunnels and chokepoints, the linear nature of the projectile is a bit easier to use reactively than the grenade launcher. I currently use AABAC, but I confess that is less an experimentally tested conclusion and more "It just works for me."

I feel like the engie turrets are really weak, it feels like the drillers pistol if it only shot very slowly in 4 round bursts whit a pretty long delay on the bursts Oh wait it gets upgrades from tier 5 but they dont seem all that good before you get more upgrades
