14:18 Holy shit! Hearing Noble, Joey, Aki and Misty’s name all together again for the first time in a long time gave me massive whiplash! I remember those guys being basically be THE icons when it came to anime content Noble- doing Visual Novel let’s plays Joey- doing anime break downs Aki- analyzing anime tropes and her famous Vocaloid videos Misty- breaking down anime recommendations based on what kind and type of anime you were looking for I loved seeing those guys together, they were the reason why I started going to Anime Expo, I got a chance to meet them, not all of them in one place but still It’s sad that they broke up, still a mystery for the reason to this day, but at this point is long past that and probably doesn’t matter, Joey and Aki came out as a couple and living together, Nobles is doing his own thing hanging out with Vtubers and making new context moving on from his VN anime games days (honestly miss those days) and Misty is happy I’ll married and with 2 kids and sadly left the channel due to YT striking his channel constantly There was great memories with them and hope they do well on their own paths ….also is no one gonna talk about that time they all got drunk on stream started making out with each other, HOLY FUCK were Joey and Noble giving each other some tongue action!!

What's interesting, even in my weird Anime/Cooking niche is I have seen the same thing. When we celebrate Anime and use something else (cooking) as a story element the videos become so much more fun.

Man listening to this brought a tear to my eye, remembering everything that happened watching garnt since the death note era. Him leaving and coming back and seeing all the rise up and down of other youtubers and also thinking he got cancer but learning that he was bald because he was back from being a monk lol. Jimmy being Connor's predecessor of shit takes lmao during jtaku days and people harassing to get demoD as a guest all the time on the podcast. It’s insane being in elementary now a 23yo adult and thinking back with this video feeling old but also nostalgic and on a level feeling happy.

It still makes me sad that Demo doesn't make videos anymore, but god damn, even now, when you watch back his old videos they are still fucking amazing and still feel fresh to this day. And while he doesn't seem to upload anymore, he has still mentioned in his streams (He semi regularly streams on twitch) that if he feels like making a new video he will make one. That's the reason he randomly uploaded an anime related video 4 years after the last one, and it was stll great. Demo will always have a soft spot in my heart for one of the youtubers that put the curent type of anime content on the map.

I breathed a sigh of relief when you started talking about Demo. I miss his videos. Still go back and watch his Redline review every now and then. Demo deserves recognition in the annals of anituber history.

I remember watching Digibro and best guy ever and all the guys from the pro crastinators podcast years ago. Thank you for making me nostalgic and remembering the times I was absolutely obsessed with anitubers and the small community.

I remember Gigguk for Lucky Strik- Star, Black Lagoon and Death Note. Also Gigguk hated Evangelion back then, or to paraphrace "was very critical of it". but was very successful with Top 20 Cool anime characters which was probably "taken" from JesuOtaku, but he picked up at Reviews like Baccano, Haruhi Movie, Gurren Lagann and Summer Wars. Those were one of the best years to an anime fan.

It may sound wierd, but Grumpy Jiisan can be the most renowned anitubers for japanese. Some of his videos were "fansubbed" in niconico and earned >100k views, and even an independent dictionary page has been created for him. I remember I watched and loved his review video of Zegapain back in the day.

Jesus can’t believe I have watched this lad for over a decade and witnessed a lot of the things he talked about, and still enjoying and watching every video of him. Keep it up dude hope you still continue many more years

when the Anime Analysis era started that was right around when I would say I had just reached peak interest I had in anime and manga so far and I gotta say that is still something that I love about the anime and manga community. These really long, thought out essay videos that really sometimes go even further into the matter of what the an anime show is dealing and exploring with.

Man, this takes me back. I remember in 2015, I found Noble aka Lost Pause. Watched him for years and he introduced me to NuxTaku with his anime analysis videos. His competition videos led me to find Connor and thus leading me to watch Trash Taste. I really like that everyone was together when it came to the community and the memories they brought me in High school.

Man, this video was a nostalgia trip and a half. I remember watching some of the early Mr Anime and Hard reviews back in middle school. It’s amazing to see how things have changed so much, and I’m definitely still missing the days before he adpocalypse ruined a lot of fair use content as we know it (RIP Misty Chronexia and most of the abridging community). One person you forgot to mention from the Blip/ThatGuywiththeGlasses days is Bennett the Sage. The dude was the first guy to do reviews of older and not as well like anime (thing Mad Bull 34 and the Devilman OVAs) and is still doing reviews/analysis videos to this day. The guy is one of the only reviews from the TTWTG era that survived the Channel Not Awesome fallout and do pretty well for himself. One more recent/honorable mention would be Kenny Lauderdale. All I need to say is that he made me aware of Chargeman Ken, and that’s more than legendary enough. XD

There was one peace of history I feel was missing. It was a time before misty noble and before 2014 a time in 2012-2013 where Chanel’s like Anime America hit the scene talking about anime top 10s it might feel a bit odd to call this a whole era but it’s important. If you skip this understanding how huge noble,Misty,Joey and Akis hitting KZfaq really was. Because in that time anime KZfaq content hit a 2 year place where there was nothing new interesting or and most importantly Unique happened and everything felt the same. And I think that’s why it hit a cap for viewers it all looked and felt the same. I shall go back to the void now ❤️

I'll be honest I hold alot of nostalgia for the big explosive era of anime youtube 2014-2018. It's a shame that some of the biggest youtubers from back then like Misty aren't making videos anymore or for the likes of Noble aren't as prominent as they used to be, whatever you think of them you can't deny the impact they had in shaping the modern anituber environment.

I really liked how you brought up Aki/Joey/Noble/Misty! They were basically the 'big four' of anitubers back in the day and I almost feel like nobody remembers and/or talks about it. I pretty much only watch Aki and Joey out of the four anymore, but all of them were a pretty big part in my youtube journey

Hearing you talk about Podtaku makes me feel so nostalgic ㅠㅠ I remember being such a big fan of your channel at the time, and subscribing instantly to Podtaku even though I'd never even heard of this thing called a podcast before haha I have really fond memories of going for walks while listening to the latest Podtaku episode, or sitting at home rewatching highlight clips over and over again (the clip of jean talking about school days still lives on in my mind almost a decade later)

This was a lot of fun! I always like when you sit down and review the history behind things. You have a great way of making it fun. I’d love to see you do more videos like this as someone who is a little more intimately familiar with the community as a whole :)

I feel like the analytical anime youtube content phase and Digi/YGGs content is a bigger part of the AniTube history than was brought up; but I think you did a great job man. Like how else would we know that SAO = Bad show without that content?

Thank you guys for being there to listen to back when I didn’t have friends to talk anime with back in the mid 2000s I’ve been watching since you’re first podcast with glass reflections you actually Evan talked about me in a episode back when mr anime was the biggest thing and everyone was making three days grace amvs and you had channels dedicated to uploading animes in 280p with like 15parts for one episode it’s been a long road and now there’s a KZfaq channel basically dedicated to every anime out there back when everyone one was basically making abridges for every anime out there from naruto to one pieac to yughio thanks for being there from when I was a little kid to the 25 year old man I am now. P.s glass reflections doesn’t get enough credit but he was the biggest KZfaqr back in the day would love to see him on the new podcast also misty was amazing back in the day he still uploads and gets no views pepole should really check him out. I’m going to make a video about being a fan throughout the years and growing up with this community

Was waiting for demo to get brought up the whole time. I also seem to notice the rise of new well edited and humorous review content. I think scamboli might have actually been the start of this new wave but theres a fair amount of smaller ones growing like echidnut who is about to reach 200k. People that are making 5-15 minute long well edited videos focused on being entertaining and well put together. Content like gigguk's actually, or demo and I am all for it. Although man I wish demo still did youtube. If somehow he hadn't lost the angel's egg footage all those years ago, the anime youtube landscape could be totally different. Or more likely he would have just quit a little later since IIRC he had a lot of rough stuff going on in his life for several years.

It's so strange to be in a sort of hybrid position. I've been watching anime content on and off for many years (I remember Garnt's job quitting + Patreon move announcement video). After over a decade of lurking and watching anime content creators, I'm now in the (small-scale "successful") beginnings of my own anime KZfaq career. Like everything else internet-related, the insane boom of the internet means that there's no more "niche communities", for better or worse. Remember KZfaq Rewind? I suspect this may the only "anime KZfaq" history video made, but I'm really glad this video was made because this all happened in a time where there was nowhere to document the growth of a small community. Thanks for the history lesson! Can't wait to see where things go from here for you and the rest of the anime community.

As someone new to being an anime centric channel I found this video to be pretty interesting. I had heard of a lot of the names you talked about in a lot of different places but enjoyed your take on it all. I'm curious what the future of this all looks like as it appears there's a lot of deep change in creators content and styles. I started out making a heavier load of anime reviews and talks but after having a lot of issues with using clips and such it's really taken a back seat to Japanese/anime gaming. There's a lot of things I want to do with anime topics but also a high risk with doing it.

Scamboli reviews are one of my favorites since it makes so many real life references. But I like your anime in a nutshell layout because it's not the typical to ten this season. I follow alot of different anime youtubers because as people, everyone has their own favorite genre. I kind of out of the ep to ep reviewers because just having been to subscribe to them, the thumbnails themselves would spoil the shows I did not get a chance to watch. I like both of your channels and looked at the seasonal videos like few months ago. Awesome. Thank you for sharing this though. Keep up the good work.

Honestly, i think Demo had a huge impact on video editing overall. It at least inlfuenced Garnt, and spread through him and others to different parts of the platform. Few can reach Demos level tho. They lack the edge.

Digibro was such a huge part of my life a few years ago, and defined anitube for me. I, like many others, was absolutely obsessed with all of their content. I believe they had an enormous impact on the community that is understated here, in that they basically began the entire anitube analysis phase. The discussions around anime shifted drastically toward deeper critical analysis than just (relatively) surface-level discussion. Im glad to see Digi mentioned here, despite them being quite divisive and the rocky past between them and Garnt. I would love to see more content covering the history of anitube like this.

God, It really hits you when you can remember most of the names that popped up in this video just how long you've been watching Anitube. I think I found your channel wayyyy back in 2008 after I was looking for some anime recs. stuck around cause I liked your content and Arkada's. I still hold to this day that the "Men-taku" episode of J-taku was peak. Like it was just a bunch of guys opening up about their biggest fetishes and talking shit about each other. 🤣 But the landscape nowadays is probably the best form of Anitube and I'm glad to be a part of it.

Lost Pause was a big influence on me, to stop trying to kill the part of me that is cringe, and instead kill the part of me that cringes. I started watching his Nekopara series so fucking long ago, this feels surreal to think it is now part of history

Damn I actually am surprised Garnt brought up the Joey-Aki-Noble-Misty group, since it seems like taking Noble's name is like a taboo in this sphere nowadays.

I think we all owe a lot to the anime KZfaq community. I'm 33, and I've been watching anime since I was 7. I remember going through all of these channels back in the day and writing down the names of anime and manga to check out. They've also helped to make anime more mainstream; back when I was in middle-high school the only kids who knew or would admit to knowing anything about anime were my brother, myself, and a single one of our friends. Now almost everyone knows of or even has a favorite anime.

Demo would be considered the biggest influence in anime content and I’ve seen gigguk mention him before. His videos are just so well done providing a balance between well written comedy, thoughtful analysis and high production level videos. I also give props to guys like glass reflections and gigguk for introducing us to various anime.

This is a massive nostalgia trip... I forgot about a lot of these creators mentioned, lot's of memories coming back.

Shadow ACS Glass Reflection And Gigguk were the ones I started watching in 2011-2012 that were doing anime reviews. That was a time where I could watch a review and if I found it interesting enough I'd just search and watch the ENTIRE series on KZfaq.

lol i seen so many random back in them days where you could just type in 'anime episode 1 english sub part 1 of 3' and be greeted with a bunch of anime id never heard of, for free. very nostalgic getting reminded of that. Also, should've brought up abridging, that was a massive part of the communities history

Thank you for this nostalgia trip. When i was way younger, I watched soo much anime youtube, even though never becoming a KZfaq Content Creator myself. From the top of my head, i remember "YokuramaGameTalks" being one of the really big people back in the day. He had around 15-20k subscribers? and I was like: "HOW IS THAT POSSIBLE"? DoctorDazza (now working for Crunchyroll) and BizarreJelly5 (still streaming) were the 2 first KZfaqrs I have considered myself a real fan of. Being able to talk to my favourite Creators on Twitter at that time was exciting. I think I have left the AniTube Community around 2? years into Podtaku for a while, came back and was baffled how much you have grown.

I had my start on KZfaq creating AMVs so I found you and other anime content very early on. It was bizarre when you came back and really reflecting on how much things had changed between your early reviews and what you had coming out then. Demo D remains part of a unique subculture in KZfaq outside of just anime of people who really just let their personality sing and sometimes made deliberate offense in the best way possible. I wish more people did content that was meaningful and short like he did. I was on the DigiBro train for a while but I fell way off at some point when he got deep into rants. I actually had a class with Holden in college, though I didn't know who he was until after that class had ended. The trend on KZfaq had been towards "general" media analysis and I'm far less into that than a lot of other people. I don't think a lot of people who aren't committed to anime have that much interesting to say about anime and it's a shame to lose voices who are experts in that to become generalists.

This video was a great look back at anime YT and still watch peeps and love their content like Noble from lost pause, Chibi from Chibi Reviews and so on plus Scam does remind me of Demolition Ds stuff also Nux is gonna put out more anime content soon WooHoo unlike the offbrand era he went through the last couple years but people like Totally Not Mark and others have been really great for analysis content over the last 2 years to me
