If Raymer calls the all-in on hand Matusow got knocked out on, Raymer would have flopped trip 8s and turned a boat while knocking out two players. Raymer was destined to win that tournament. He ran so well especially in heads-up hands.

Unfortunately, the river is part of the game. Depends how you get there - did you get it in with the best and get unlucky - or get a bluff called but still have a chance on the river. If not one of those scenario's you prolly made the wrong move.

There are 3 things in poker that I *REALLY* enjoying watching: 1) Phil Hellmuth blow up after losing to "some asshole Internet kid playing a hand he shouldn't" which hits the winner on the river (double satisfaction if Hellmuth was also playing a weak hand). 2) When there's an unknown or a first timer (or both/more than one of either) at the WSOP Main Event Final table. 3) A player getting knocked out after displaying a ridiculous amount of arrogance - Matusow's basically top of that list.

Raymer could easily have JJ+ that would make mike a 4 to 1 dog, or any 10X of diamonds hand like ATd that would be even worse, or sets that would have him almost dead. There is a ton of value hands that ray could easily have in that spot. That said mikes best-case scenario was ray bluffing with any 2 diamond overcards. The thing is that even if ray has that bluff, mike is still an underdog having 45% equity. How can you ever call when your best-case scenario is still you being the underdogdog and then quote "im playing my best poker ever??" cannot imagine anything more terrible than that.

Mike with the call of his life lol with 2nd pair, 7 kicker on a draw heavy board against Raymer who shoved with nut flush draw, 2 overs and 3 backdoor straight draws. That's some serious equity. And the biggest problem was Mike not understanding that it didn't matter he was correct on his read but that he was a dog to win the hand lol. He yelled "dont let me get unlucky " when in fact he needed to get lucky bc Raymer was the favorite.

Does anyone know what the "blind" odds were on the flush draw hand with Raymer? Mike says don't let me get unlucky, implying he is at least a bit of a favorite, but the % show 54 to 46 for Raymer. Was he just wrong because the broadcasters had camera and information about other cards that were folded that he didn't?
@alexanderscott6343
@alexanderscott6343 2 жыл бұрын
Honestly not 100% sure but I think they were just straight pot odds. Flush draw with 2 overcards to the board no straight potential or board pairing with 2 cards to come. He was only losing big to a flopped set of which he needs to hit the flush or runner runner which is unlikely. 2 cards to hit an Ace, Jack, running cards for a straight or a diamond are pretty decent odds for Raymer.
@donpablo838
