It’s eerie; everyone we see in DC in this scene who didn’t get on Air Force One died. The helicopter pilots who flew the POTUS over, the ground crews, the staff in the second helicopter. Same goes for the Secret Service dude who shut the FLOTUS’ door and stayed on the helipad. He probably knew he was fucked but did his job anyway.

The aliens also arrived above the major cities of Europe and Asia. I'm sure millions evacuated from those cities as well, albeit in vain.

Not to mention that the anchorman, Bob Friend (who was a real news anchor) was in London which was also destroyed shortly after. There are extended news segments from this movie here on KZfaq where it shows him. Sky News is also a real life news network.

It's frightening when you realize that the harvester aliens viewed humanity as nothing but pestilent vermin that needed to be quickly wiped out, like we would gas a roach infestation, and just like insects to light, we looked with awe and wonder upon their weapon of mass destruction before BOOM. Didn't even know what hit us till after it did.

Wow, Downtown LA near US Bank Tower has been evacuated quickly and pretty much clear of bumper to bumper traffic, same with DC too but people in LA were already stuck on Freeway 5 or 10!!

At 0:58, If you look in the background, you'll see the guards are blocking David and Julius. In a part, the president calls out to the guards, "They're okay! Let them on!" The guards then let David and Julius board the helicopter.

1. The President always flies with multiple helicopters, changing positions to ensure an enemy doesn't know which is Marine One, as well as an escort helicopter. The second helicopter would already be in the air with them. 2. The Secret Service is in charge of the security of the White House Complex and its staff; it would not be the U.S. Atlantic Command (now Northern Command) commanding officer ordering the staff in the second helicopter. 2. Air Force One is stationed at Joint Base Andrews in Maryland, less than 15 miles from the White House, not Washington-Dulles, a commercial airport 27 miles west of D.C. in Virginia. 3. In an emergency like that, the President would likely be aboard the National Emergency Airborne Command Post, or when activated, the National Airborne Center, not Air Force One. 4. The black bag the SecDef (who would probably be aboard his own Airborne Command Center, not with the President) hands to the Press Secretary is likely supposed to be "the football," that contains the nuclear codes and booklets of other emergency information. It's always carried by a military officer rotated between the 4 branches: Army, Navy, Air Force, and Marine Corps and is sometimes handcuffed to the officer. They stay in close proximity at all times to the President. The SecDef would not be handling it. 5. For continuity of government purposes, the Press Secretary is considered a very low priority, since, in a post-nuclear holocaust, it is considered highly unlikely that they would have anyone to brief and to get the information out to. She would not be with the President on NEACP (pronounced "Kneecap").

1. Considering what we find out about Albert Nimzicki, It would be fitting for him to have the nuclear launch codes on his person at all times. He was repeatedly shown to want to Throw Nuclear Bomb after Nuclear Bomb at the aliens, refused to tell the President and others about Area 51... 2. General Grey does seem like a reasonable Military Official, and at the risk of his own life, offered to stay at the President's side. The Secret Service was likely busy evacuating others...

A bit unrealistic to be ordering an evacuation of the cities with under 30 mins left in the countdown. At best, it takes an hour or two to organize mass evacuations, and then longer to actually get people evacuated.

It’s only unrealistic to expect good results from a 30min mass evacuation (spoiler: surprisingly, the evacuation didn’t do much). Just consider if you, the POTUS, knew cities were about to be leveled in half an hour…wouldn’t you give the order to evacuate? There are millions on the edges of the blast areas who can still get to a safer spot within a few minutes. People fortunate enough to have the ability to could fly out of the city, or even just get to cover like in a bunker or behind a hill. Also politically it’s basically a heads up to the country and the rest of the world that danger is imminent, and that could trigger all kinds of contingencies that could still save lives even after the attack (like search and rescue).

In the movie the New Yorkers started to evacuate as soon as the aliens arrived. The Los Angelenos on the hand were kinda stupid. Half of them were on the rooftops celebrating and the other half was barely starting to evacuate. Washington, DC was mostly evacuated by the time the aliens attack because when David and Julius are driving to the white house, the city is pretty much empty.

If any space aliens invaded Earth, I insist on looking for the mastermind behind the invasion, even if the aliens are like locusts, and then doing the following process instead of nuking the aliens, because I would prefer this process to nuking them: "First, commit some crimes that should hopefully make someone a fugitive, and then frame the mastermind for those crimes." I will only tolerate nuking the aliens if the trouble that we make doesn't seem to fool the aliens into turning the mastermind in for those crimes.
