stay to the end for a few big announcements At long last, the kitchen is done - well, what we had aimed to complete. From finishing base cabinets, fixing grout errors, and these darn diy floating shelves, it was all getting in the way of the fully fleshed kitchen. I'm happy to finally come back and show you the final result.

You’re so good Letitia! You should be so proud. It’s so good you show all the angst and long duration of these projects. Seeing the two day projects so often is discouraging. I feel better that I’m not the only one to start a big project then gets big project anxiety and it’s kinda done enough to use but not done completely that takes ages. This is so real. I’m so proud of you. Appreciate that you still edit videos and publish them amongst it all. It’s so much work!

LETITIA! I was just thinking about you because I came across a reel of yours and thought "Hey...I wonder how her kitchen is doing?" And then I saw you didn't upload for months and was scared we'd never get to see the finished product. But GIRL! You delivered! Great job renovating, and it's so admirable how much of this you did by yourself as a first-timer. Excited to see more projects on the channel :)

If we'd just protected those areas we wouldn't have to clean up this much - famous last words! It's giving me flashbacks to when we painted our house and didn't bother putting drop sheets on the tiles and then spent half a day cleaning paint of tiles (FYI vinegar works so much better than paint stripper or mineral turpentine!). Lessons learned but you've also done an amazing job!!

Stef's advice on perfection issue is giod advice. I use pellet wood and don't have all the tools and can't get things showroom looking. As long as my need of the diy is dealt with. Workshop build, cant wait to see. I will hopefully be doing one myself in summer.

What I've found with staining plywood(and all wood I've tried) is that it absolutely needs wood conditioner, gives you such an even stained look.

From what I saw, gel stain doesn't need wood conditioner since it's suspended and not penetrating? But I'll get back to you on that hehe

I know it’s not an option, but for the grout colour it would be so cool if you did a vibrant colour! Like yellow!! There someone on KZfaq (Letitia Kiu) who is documenting their kitchen Reno and she made a custom colour of pinkish red for her white tiles that was so vibrant and interesting!!

Sand the mitered edges with 140 grit, fill mitered edges with wood putty/filler for pine. Sand smooth with 400 grit. Apply pre-stain wood conditioner because pine is a soft wood. It will bring out the natural grain a bit and make the stain absorb more evenly. Then apply your stain and apply sealer/poly. I know it's too late, but maybe for next time :) Kitchen looks beautiful btw.
@letitiakiu
@letitiakiu 11 ай бұрын
No amount of sanding would've closed some of those gaps haha. But yes gel stain was what saved it! I was going to go wood conditioner route but apparently gel stain doesn't need it?? Not sure. Thank you for the tips!

@@letitiakiu believe me, I still have a very healthy fear of my tablesaw! The biggest risk is the fabric getting caught in the sawblade and pulling your hand into it, and it can happen very quickly. My dad told me a story about a guy in his shop class in high school, and it was enough for me lol. Like I said, I don’t want to be that person but that tool specifically can be so dangerous. I’m so excited you loved it enough to go back and learn more though! I’m self/dad taught to this point and would love some more formal education.

When closing a mitre joint that isn't quite perfect, running a screwdriver shaft lengthwise along the edge will close that gap. I've seen both Frills n Drills and Angela Home do it on their instagram. It'll dull the edge of the mitre (making it not as sharp) but it will be closed so you can't see daylight.

Is the grout supposed to match her eyebrows? The part of the kitchen that is done feels much better. I actually detest open shelves in reality because they just create extra work. Open shelves are like a weekly chore whereas you can get away with cleaning the interior of your cabinets once a season. But in this reno the open shelves have really lightened up the mood of the kitchen. Before the space felt oppressive. I like the cabinet color too.
