I would like to remind everyone that these episodes were recorded pre-strike. Therefore some of the things we're talking about are a little out of sync with where we're at now. Also, as we've previously mentioned we will be transitioning into watch along format. For this serial we will still have the episode available, but as you'll be able to see it will be slightly blurred and audio lowered (Though that is the norm with audio). I have edited in a timer to help with adjusting to what that will be like as well. Thank you all for understanding and your support!

I gotta think the twins "creation" spun a "thread" thru the coven. When Mae and Osha broke the thread it unraveled, fatally ripping the coven. I don't think the Jedi understood how delicate the balance was within the coven, until it was far too late.

So Osha is the Son from Mortis except she gets the jedi to take her off the planet... I also think the best case scenario for the moral integrity of the jedi is that this goes down like Waco...I really think that this group of jedi were actively hunting this coven and I don't see Sol being exempt. I think his mushiness is probably his coping mechanism. I really think that Osha's going to kill him in a couple episodes but we'll see.

I get the feeling this is similar to what we saw in TLJ. 1 to show the "Jedi" point of view. 1 for the "dark side". And 1 of the ACTUAL history. What you felt about the dathomiri It is actually somewhat intentional as when initially pitched The series was going to explore the history of Ventress. This does also seem to reinforce the perception that was played up by palpatine in a 130 years about jedi being a child snatching weirdo cult. And the idea that Osha and Mae seems to be a proto version of what Anakin turns out to be. As it is implied that mother Anasyia created the girls by "manipulating the midi-chlorians to create.....life"

Sol kind of feels a bit like a guilty party wouldn't you say? I think that might be the emotion he's channeling. Also, any Knight can take a person as a Padawan regardless of the Council's decisions. It's why even though the Council denied Anakin being trained Obi-Wan was able to say he would train Anakin. So Sol could train her even if more senior Jedi disapprove. This feels very Rashomon so I'm hoping we see more flashbacks from other people's point of view going forward.

You're welcome for the title guys. I really enjoyed the first 2 episodes and thought they got a lot of undue hate/criticism. Initially, I thought this episode deserved the criticism and I really didn't like it, but your discussion has given me pause. On the face of it, so much of the episode didn't make sense - how does a whole coven of witches die in a fire? I thought that was the explanation we were being given and it made no sense, but you're right, there definitely stuff we're not being told/shown yet. Also, if the planet wasn't a part of the Republic, why were the Jedi there? Were they just there to spy on the coven or did they have an actual legitimate, legal reason to be there initially? Also, what the deal with the 'creation' of the twins? Are they the Anakin before Anakin? So many questions... Thanks for helping me see the episode in a slightly more positive light.

So it would make sense if Darth Plagueis gets his knowledge on creating life from the force from the witches. Was wiping the witches out to get that knowledge and keep it secret a long term Sith plan? Did they point the Jedi to the witches to seed discord and ultimately destroy the witches. Because the thing that both witches & Jedi miss is that twins one witch and one Jedi could have helped create a balance. I assume that the Jedi disagree and instead of being happy with just taking Osha, maybe 2 or 3 of them want to take Mae as well. So they have a plan within a plan. They send Sol to get Osha but then plan to take Mae without his knowledge. It goes wrong and massacre ensues. Or does Sol know?

Something to watch out for. The witches view the Force more similarly as the sith. They don't think there is a will or a destiny. It's just an energy field to use however you want. Whereas the Jedi knows that the Force has a Will. And WE as viewers know that the Force has gods. Just a connection I observed between the Sith and Witches. ObiWan teaches Luke to let the force guide his movements and control his actions in the remote training. It's not just something to be commanded. If it was limited to that there is no way the force could guide your actions before you flexed or thought your own will upon it. Precognitive reaction and movement would be severely limited.

The 3rd episode starts and ends on a tree in which the episode tells the audience several times that it is poisonous. I think that this isn't a coincidence and has to do with the larger story of how the Witches all died at once. How they were poisoned all at once, I still haven't figured out. As they were all lying on the floor together with most of them looking unharmed. Perhaps the Witches were planning on poisoning the Jedi in order to keep Osha and to avoid blame for killing them. Only a fight to break out and something to go wrong and all the Witches get poisoned? I'm not sure how it clicks together to make sense, but I feel like the poisonous tree is somehow chekhov's gun here.

"Only a Sith deals in absolutes" - Obi-Wan, blinded by his own idealism, missing the irony of his own statement. The Jedi were clergy cops, with the inherent problems of both. Most of it not rooted in malice, but certainly a lot of naïve self-righteousness and ignorance of the flaws in their own system. There was more of the "dark side" in their ways than they cared to recognize. Luke couldn't ignore it when he came face to face with it, though.

What if..🤔 The Sith were looking for the girls, but couldn't find them. The witches hid them well. But the Jedi knew.. And led the Sith right to them. Watching the show last night I struggled with the pacing. It felt very drawn out... Like a comic book story that should be 1 issue that's spread out to 3. So I came to your reactions because you help reframe and give me a new point of view. I've retroactively reevaluated episodes 1&2. On the wokeness... I don't get it. I didn't even remember that there was controversy until about episode 4. Which I still don't get. My issues with the story are about pace, not characters. The Jedi - a bit pompous and stiff, but they've always had that propensity. It's almost to the point of making them unlikable though. The Pals - super fun chaos energy, and you're making me a fan. The only thing I'm not fond of is that you both have awesome hair, and I have none. But that might be misplaced jealousy. Thanks for an awesome reaction channel. Fan backlash to The Acolyte has to be the most bizarre and frustrating thing I've seen from this fanbase in a while, because it's perfectly in line with what George Lucas set up with his films originally. This series encapsulates Star Wars in both positive (riffing on classic storytelling genres, interesting concepts and worldbuilding) and negative ways (hokey dialogue), it's really no different from most other Star Wars series during the last few years, with the added bonus that it's actually doing something interesting with this universe for a change. There's a lot to critique and analyse about the show, but instead fans get bogged down with the most asinine complaints like fire burning in space, or throw a fit because Leslye Headland said the show was going to be "the gayest Star Wars show ever", or that Charlie Barnett accidentally said that Anakin destroyed the Death Star in an interview (that's an actual complaint that's been circulating on Star Wars Twitter for the last two weeks). And this is in between the usual suspects banging on about "wokeness" and "agendas" and declaring this to be the "death of the franchise" for what must be the fifth time in the last decade. Sometimes it's really exhausting to be a Star Wars fan.
@michaelwilson1537
@michaelwilson1537 Ай бұрын
The problem is that it's not in line with what George Lucas created. George Lucas created the force, not a thread. Lucas was clear on Jedi being the side of good and Sith being evil. This concoction of a show paints the Jedi as a cult-like confederation that are taking force sensitive children from their parents, basically the bad guys? Anakin was the "chosen one" because he was created by the force (not thread) whereas this show completely changes that lore. Yes, it's not just the fact that this show is terribly written, acted and directed it's a spit in the face to what George Lucas created. That's why there's so much hate for the show.
@cygni4
@cygni4 Ай бұрын
@@michaelwilson1537 The Force and Thread are the same thing. You're seeing two separate religions with different forms of worship and belief towards the same cosmic feature. Just because the Greeks called the sun "Helios" and offered honey to it, and the Hawaiians called it "La" and played music to it doesn't change the principle nature of the sun. The Jedi and Sith call the cosmic phenomenon "the Force" and believe it is a connecting power that can be tapped into and used for one's own agenda, the coven calls it "the Thread" and think of it as a connecting power that ties a group together to be stronger as one and can be 'pulled' to trigger greater things. The Jedi have never been innately, flawlessly good in any Star Wars media, if they were, basic critical thinking would tell you that Anakin himself is an impossibility. If the Jedi are innately good, how did episode 4 start off with a Jedi who betrayed the entire rest of the Jedi and joined up with the empire? They are people, and just like any other people, they have agendas and are flawed. Obi-wan's immediate reaction on seeing Luke and hearing Leia's request is to convince a teenager to ditch his family and come get involved in a war that Kenobi knew for a fact would have Luke fighting his own father and in constant danger. Yoda AND Obi-wan in 5 openly tell Luke to abandon his friends because his training is more important and it's okay for them to be sacrificed as long as Luke honors their deaths. Luke succeeds and saves his friends by directly ignoring the strict Jedi path and going to reunite with his friends anyway, what ultimately allows them to rescue Han and later end the Empire. Even in the original trilogy, actual "good" and "Jedi" are not synonymous. Anakin was the chosen one because his destiny was to balance the Sith and Jedi, which he ultimately did. He wasn't chosen because of the circumstance of his birth, that was just an indicator of him being the one in the prophecy. The existence of other people conceived by means of the Force doesn't change his specific prophecy. A prophecy about a person named John showing up someplace doesn't suddenly not work just because another person named John was born a century ago. The show has very, very standard writing, acting and direction, and its production in practical effects and costuming are closer to the original trilogy than Star Wars has been in a very long time. It's a very run-of-the-mill show hated because of culture war brainrot, not because it somehow spits in the face of George "Meesa called Jar Jar Binks" Lucas.

@@michaelwilson1537 well, in interviews we have heard Dave Filoni helped the showrunner develop the Witches in the Acolyte. Filoni has had in-depth discussions about the Force with Lucas and still talks to him for advice on Star Wars. It's as @christianwise637 points out a different way of talking about or describing the Force. It was George Lucas who picked out the Nightsisters from the EU to make them part of Star Wars canon despite using the Force very differently. Also it's already canon but Lucas brought in a witch doing magic before with The Battle for Endor tv movie. George Lucas had his daughter Katie Lucas write most of the Clone Wars episodes featuring the Nightsisters. I think Lucas might really like these new additions to Star Wars canon.

I have an idea about how to improve the plot, characters and writing of these Star Wars series. When upper management interviews potential show runners, they should ask them, "What are your plans for the Star Wars brand?" And if a candidate utters some variation of "I don't know much about Star Wars, nor do I care to," or if they get a evil grin on their face, rub their hands together nefariously and scream, "I'm gonna burn it to the ground!" you probably shouldn't hire them. Seriously, there's nothing wrong with these series that couldn't be cured by a show runner who knew and respected the material and knew how to hire writers capable of producing interesting plots and sharp, memorable dialogue.

@@thegamingknight2096 I'm not trying to cast anyone as a villain. But I wonder, among other things, how the money for this project was spent. Each episode of The Acolyte (if online sources are to be believed) cost more than the entire Oscar-winning film Godzilla Minus One, which is a master class in what can happen if you write a good script, create likeable characters, care about the source material and have enough time to create a high-quality finished product. It seems to me, as a former Star Wars fan turned disinterested observer, that these Disney+ series (including The Book of Boba Fett, Kenobi (or whatever it was called) and the last season of The Mandalorian) simply don't offer much bang for the buck. Cheapo sets, low-budget special effects, a general "rushed" vibe, and, worst of all, subpar stories and dialogue. Omg. She wasn't born when Star Wars came out???? Just like most of the fandom and people cast throughout throughout the years???? WOAH. You are so so insightful. So smart. Such good

Sorry Given up on this (The Acolyte) Star Wars is truly dead.Thanks Disney.Why, Poor writing, poor acting,poor storyline that makes up a rule then goes against that rule for it's own convenience, unimaginative generic effects ,how it cost almost 23 million per episode I just don't know, because it doesn't show on the screen whatsoever, just dogleg. Edited to add reasons.
